    Lucas is 1000% correct. Hollywood is killing itself, movies today are completely lacking in originality, creativity, and even actors have gotten worse. Movie theaters are suffering from the lack of audiences so ticket prices keep getting jacked up to make up for the loss.

    I can totally believe everything that George Lucas is saying. Notch essentially had the exact same complaint about the gaming industry and independent game development.

      +Tim-J.Swan I think the industry is smart in a sense. They can repackage the same films over and over and make a ton of money. Which is what they want. The sad thing is, no one is willing to take a chance on some new experimental film making. Lucas came from that era when film makers did take chances. His movies also changed the industry.

      Except people no longer try "experimental flicks", fear of being a box office dunce and making a fatal career error dissuades most upcoming directors.
      Hollywood has become too derivative for words, publishers will cradle past successes to capitalise on nostalgia. Rather than being reasonable and let the art shine through the slog of blockbusters.

    Wow!
    Mr.Lucas you hit the target directly.
    Movies will (NEVER) be what they -
    Once were.
    I have always loved your style.
    Hollywood is will not survive.

    The sad thing is that Hollywood are still copying Star Wars all these years later.
    It's that lethal combination of no imagination, no talent and no risk taking.

    George is totally right !!!! Vast majority of nowadays movies completely lack imagination - big corporations making dumb films - like the new Spider-Man - just a CGI mashup with weak plot and weak characters that you just can't relate to in any way. Movies are an art form and they can't be made by talentless people just because they have a lot of money. To me George Lucas is the greatest visionary and the greatest storyteller in the history of the cinema.

      he became what he feared/loathed/hated.
      the prequels are steaming piles of corporate greed.

    • @zallesproductions
      @zallesproductions 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      George Lucas is not even close to the greatest visionary in cinema. He may be great, but the amount that he has contributed to film small in comparison to Orson Welles or Alfred Hitchcock or Steven Spielberg.

    • @Andrewsafb71
      @Andrewsafb71 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas is a fucking hack that gets wayyyyyy too much credit for the stuff that his name slapped on it. The two movies he worked on that got him huge he had nowhere near as much control as he did when he made the prequels. If the Phantom Menace came out before any other Star Wars films it would have been a fucking flop.

    Am I the only one in here who thinks that Star Wars 7 is a result of exactly this. It's too much action an borrows too much from the old movies. plus a hystericly teenager that plays he is Vader

    • @electricdreamer
      @electricdreamer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Thomas Rumle You are not the only one. I feel exactly the same. And angry seeing what disney did to the saga. There is nothing original in SW7 it's as if it went through a marketing formula or something. The entire SW7 is a re-hash of the plot of A New Hope, with the original cast in costumes parodying their roles. People might disliked the prequels, but at least they are original. This SW7 is really dumb to me.

    • @ThomasThaaningJensen
      @ThomasThaaningJensen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say it's completly terrible, but it's really a bug that it lacks so much originality.
      And I feel that they are killing the old movies legacy by destroying the new Republic and start all over again.

    • @TheJaayys
      @TheJaayys 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Thomas Rumle There are some moments similar to A New Hope, there's no question. However I feel JJ was more towards paying homage to the originals, rather than borrowing from them. Episode 7 still had it's own distinct flavour (Finn's realization/Han's death etc.) and was essentially a platform for the brand new trilogy. Besides, all the fans WANTED to go back. They wanted the Star Wars that brought the world to a standstill all those years ago. Disney listened, and gave it to them.
      I still love Lucas though. Ultimately his success led to downfall, kind of. He tinkered with what was already beloved and adored by millions of fans. The prequels were not Star Wars, because he honestly did not want them to be. He strayed away from it, wanted it to stay fresh and different, maybe too different and which obviously did not end well. It actually makes me wonder, if the prequels were titled something else besides Star Wars.....I think he would've gotten a totally different response for what he did.

    I think George Lucas is right on the money, no pun intended. He is right about the state of the movie industry and that it may head into trouble if Hollywood doesn't get its act together.

    This is why I love George Lucas, he is so dead on when it comes to Hollywood today. It's an absolute propaganda machine with a political agenda. We need those good ol' independent American films back. Where people actually put there heart and souls into creating a story instead of copying and remaking.

    I've always been a fan of Mr. Lucas, and thanks to TH-cam and his candor, which sometimes get's him in hot water from a publicity point of view, you really get to know him, somewhat personally. I completely understand his message of the "Corporate" machine taking over the Visual/Film Arts. It's the same machine taking over the musical arts. However, and not to belittle the movie making genre, music is more prolific, universal and psychologically rendering. The corporate machine has reduced the the Art of Music to digital Sound Bytes put together with a pretty face or an aggressive message to make money. And because of the ability of music to stimulate the mind and psyche, this diminishing of the arts is having a profound and sterilization effect on humanity (specifically here in the most influential country). I do hope someone that is following this will understand where I'm coming from and pass along the message to Mr. Lucas. I've already written some people close to him about some projects that I'm working on that might spark a change. But, I'm sure he and his staff get inundated with nonsensical pitches and ideas not worthy of his time. Let's just Hope that serendipity proves to be fortuitous in making cultural shifts in perception....Because sometimes a Mellody is the only thing that can bring Harmony and US together....yes, pun intended on a personal level. Thank You!

    How much did he sell Lucasfilm for, 4 billion odd? You could help fund a hell of a lot of independent, originality minded film makers with that money, helping them avoid studio, committee and focus group control. I await to see whether or not that happens.

    • @sniper5880

      Ultimist You believe that? I don't. When I look up how much George Lucas is worth it says 5 billion. He was worth around 1 billion before he sold to Disney

    • @aurorauplinks
      @aurorauplinks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      its still in his name in a manner but the interest all goes to charity, and i think the 5 billion is more of a honorary note on his value in terms of his investments to charity, but he gave the money to charitable causes, film schools and the like to help push and give whats needed for the students to get as much as they can especially in a crappy economy etc

    • @aurorauplinks
      @aurorauplinks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      he sold star wars and lucas arts more or less, for 4 billion when its worth 7 billion easy, he was a core film special effects leader for countless films, his company is a trademark that adds value to any film that has it on its credits. He did it for the fans and for charity, to help give more to noble causes rather then to hang on endlessly to something that he wanted, but that wasnt what he NEEDED, instead he focused on helping raise a new generation of film makers, for the worlds future benefit and the benefit of the country as well
