I had the privilege of seeing Janis perform (Toronto 1970) about 4 months before she died. She blew us all away!
I was 13 when she died so I wasn't into her music back then. Boy did I learn to appreciate as I got older. Love her raw and raspy voice. She is another member of the 27 club. We lost alot of artist back then.

A member of the 27 club. RIP. All of her songs were great. Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival was the world'sintroduction to Janis. Cass Elliot is in awe of her performance. Cass Elliott was with the Mama's and the Papa's. A great group.
I spun "Me and Bobby McGee" more than and other 45 growing up, 2nd only to Neil Diamond's Holly Holy. The 60's and 70's had legends.
I love Janis, and I've been listening to this since it first came out. And that's a long time. It has always entranced me because she sings Blues like no other and this song shows off her unique voice. Her vocal control was spot on even with every scream. Her voice is so soul-stirring, but the best part is that she harmonizes with the best...herself. Check out "Work me Lord", "Piece of my Heart", "Little Girl Blue", "Maybe". RIP, dear Janis 💙❤️. ☮️to all.
Janis's best tracks would include "Get It While You Can", "Cry Baby", "Maybe", "Codine", "Try", "Little Girl Blue", "Move Over", ""Kozmic Blues", Piece of My Heart", "Down on Me". Because she had such a short life, the rights owners have put out just about every shred of her filmed live performances, many of which are at concerts where her voice isn't the best (strained after too many shows, bad audio, etc.). This one was fairly decent. Her studio work is impeccable (and not altered as is the case today - they just repeated it until she got it how she wanted it), as are her performances on bigger tv venues such as The Dick Cavett Show, and The Ed Sullivan Show.

Another Blue Eyed Soul singer with no boundaries and we loved her for it. She has so many jaw dropping performances that she crammed into such a short time. I miss her. Thank you for reacting to any of her music. Play it and I'll be here.

She was an amazing artist tragically died from a heroin overdose at 27 years old. Jimi Hendrix also died that same year, and Jim Morrison was soon to follow.

Janis was amazing and heartbreaking - died way too young, like Jimi Hendrix and others. You feel her pain. Cry Baby, Piece of My Heart, Me and Bobby Magee are some more of her best songs. Folk singer Joan Baez sang a beautiful tribute to Janis - In the Quiet Morning.

Welcome to Janis Joplin, a girl from Port Arthur, Texas. Her name is pronounced just as it is spelled -- and she was as Texan as you can get.
Her talent was truly immense, seen maybe only once in a generation, but she also worked at it very hard. And once you bite, you are the fish that has swallowed the hook -- her singing tears your guts out if you try to get away. But she tears them out regardless, no matter what you do.
Mover Over is one of my faves. Underrated IMO.

Janis lived her life never realizing how loved she really was. Thats her real tragedy. Bullying someone takes it toll on a person. Everyone created has a purpose to fulfill. She did. Have you done, " crybaby" studio version?

Summertime is the great aria from the most famous American opera, Porgy and Bess. It is a classic covered by almost every great female jazz or blues vocalist. Janis’ cover of this fantastic song is a tour de force made all her own. She took the aria written by Aaron Copeland and turned it into a gritty love song in the modern vernacular. Simply startling.

You played Sax and you don't know that's a soprano Saxophone ? If it was an oboe or a clarinet then the body would be made of wood and be a woodwind instrument, but that's all brass.
But if I'm not mistaken, even though it's made of brass, a saxophone is considered a woodwind because it's played with a reed at the mouthpiece.
