Geesh if you guys don’t know dragon attack you have not listened to nearly enough Queen! Holy smokes! Listen to In the Lap of the Gods, March of the Black Queen, Spread your Wings, Cool Cat, Seven Seas of Rye, It’s Late. And a must is You take my breath away-live 1976 Hyde Park. That’s a few from my list of 209 favorite Queen songs. Geniuses all!!
Every song by Queen is different, so the comment you made that it’s not like anything you’ve heard from Queen before…you can say that about every song they did. This song is so funky, but they did thrash metal before thrash metal was a thing, they did ragtime and music hall, gospel, pop disco, ballads, opera … tell me another band that could do all that. Along with all that musical talent where each band member wrote songs that became hits, each band member also has University degrees. Roger, degree in Biology. John, a degree in electrical engineering as well as looking after all of Queen’s financial aspects (still does to this day), Freddie had a degree in graphic arts and Dr Brian May, is an astrophysicist who has collaborated with NASA on their New Horizons Pluto project. Not your back yard, jamming in the garage type of band for sure. Try White Queen live at Hammersmith. You couldn’t find a song more different to Dragon Attack. It’s not a mainstream hit, it was never released as a single, but it is a firm favourite among Queen fans. You’ll see why if you watch it.
Each time I watch this live performance it just gets better the bass is so clean and satisfying especially the part at 7:43 because it shows people who maybe have a harder time hearing the bass how its actually played so they can get an idea of just how good John Deacon the bassist is in this song 10/10 performance because every single member had their moment
DRAGON ATTACK was written by Brian May during a drunk jam session. This is John Deacon’s (bass) favorite song to play! I think you guys would love DEAD ON TIME (Freddie’s vocals Wow) and BRIGHTON ROCK (Brian’s guitar is amazing). So glad you’re reacting to one of Queen’s gems!! IT’S LATE is great one, too!! Love it guys!! 😍😍❤️🔥❤️🔥
It's amazing how one song can encapsulate Queen. If someone has never heard them before this performance shows their groove energy musicianship and live performance
This song is so great and the bassline is beyond incredible. Often overlooked, this song is the Bomb! Queen had four very different songwriters in their band so a lot of different sounds. Brian wrote this one.
First 2 minutes is Freddie playing with the crowd. My favorite part is Freddie's walk across the stage as the song actually starts. He drags the tops of his back foot and kicks his legs out at the knee bobbing up and down in height with long strides while his shoulders strongly swaying left right.... NO ONE WALKS like that and WOW I can't help but notice. And then the long note 🎶🎶🎶 love love love this song. Things I've read = Roger has said this is the hardest song on his wrists. Song is about drugs (colored pills). This was a 2 night gig (not part of a tour) and filmed for a music video. The band was furious with the film crew who kept the audience in their seats and quiet (opposite of what Queen wants) ..... 'come on do it to the beat'..... and after the first night the film crew wanted the band to perform everything exactly the same (RED FLAG to the band - to them each concert is unique by design and this angered Freddie so he wore SHORT SHORTS during the encore to screw with the continuity from the first night).
That was dirty, not like the other Queen stuff. This is why we Queen fans suggest these songs. We know all of the unexpected stuff they did. Enjoy gentlemen, you'll never be disappointed. A beautiful doubleheader would be "You take my breath away " live at Hyde park and then the studio version. The live version is pretty short so a two song review wouldn't be too long. Thanks and you're welcome in advance
Studio and live are like 2 different versions of each song, and each live version is different from others. The band never wanted to, and sometimes couldn't, do songs just like the studio version. They said "If we do it just like the album, we might as well use cardboard cutouts and play the album and send the people home"! Their philosophy was "Deafen them & and blind them and leave them wanting more!" So whether you do studio or live it will be like hearing a different song. Do both!! Queen fans will LOVE it!!
This is the best ever live footage of Queen. It was filmed in Montreal in 1981. Moblevision developed technology to create a traveling IMAX show with a 5 story movie image. They approached Queen about filming them and eventually Freddy agreed. They wanted to shoot all band members so they used 8 cameras. They had to rotate 3-4 of 8 cameras each filled with with a 10 minute roll of 35 mm Kodak film. They also had people running back and forth to the cameras and a guy next to each cameraman to load the film and pull the focus. The cameras used double anamorphic lenses to squeeze as much detail onto the film as possible. There was no way to say take 1, take 2, etc. when filming so automatic slating was used to create an ID tag for every shot of film. It was the first time automatic slating was ever used. Many years later 700 Apple Mac G5’s spent one MONTH processing the film. A computation compared each frame with the ones before it and the ones after it to remove dirt, scratches and some of the defects of the original filming.
The image quality is really good because this concert was shot on 35mm film, which converts well up to 4K resolution video. Most concert videos for bands in this era were shot on video which doesn’t scale well beyond its original standard definition. So glad this was shot on film!
Enjoying your reaction! This concert was filmed in 70mm to be played as a touring movie across the US. It played in sports arenas, concert halls. Saw the movie in 1981 at San Diego Sports Arena. 😁
Green Day did a concert in London in 2017. During a break the entire 65,000 audience sang the entire 6 minutes of Bohemian Rhapsody a capella. I can only imagine how pissed off and in despair Green Day must have been that Freddie got the audience used to singing along with him.
Did you know that that Lady Gaga picked her name from the Queen song "Radio Gaga" from the Live Aid concert if you want to see just how much Freddie could have the entire audience in the palm of his hand. 😉 Brian May and his father hand made his guitar, there's a peice of the fireplace mantel from his childhood home, this is why it has such a unique sound!
Personally, I prefer the studio cut of this one. If you guys are looking for studio cuts to check out, might I suggest 'Death on Two Legs', it's aimed at a former manager who was robbing the guys blind and Freddie was NOT happy!
The studio cut does have some extra dimensions, particularly Brian's riffs. But this is a seriously cool version, with Freddie absolutely controlling the crowd, the transition from the build up to the song proper, and the interaction of Brian and John in the middle. Both versions have a place (should have a permanent place) in our souls.
Master musicians, all keeping me thrilled . . . Roger has said this is one of his toughest numbers or some such words. . . . .EDIT: it seems Freddie's movements and vocals give perfect attn to each musician, guiding focus to Roger's percussion solo, Brian's riffs, and Deaky's steady bass underpinning. An exciting jam session. loved your convo....(I always thought a gambling hall was the setting.)
Guitars by the Professor and Rocket Scientist Brian May. Bass by John Deacon and drums by Roger Taylor. The tightest band in the land. Perfection landed in Montreal.
Yesyesyes🔥🔥 Thankyou guys. Love this performance, Queen was so versatile. Please check out some 70's Queen, I suggest Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow. Much bless guys and keep up the good work.
Saw this tour & the one before it, Hard to beat Queen live. Seemed like they came to town twice a year in the late 70's early 80's. Rush is pretty damn great live too!

John Deacon..The standout in this song🤩...Hi John, I hope you’re keeping well🌺
Queen doesn't have just "one sound"... They did EVERY music genre; that's why the critics hated them so much!😄
They're versarile but mostly a rock and roll band. Especially live.
That’s not what having a sound means you dohnut. Queen have their own sound, that can’t be replicated again, their sound was unique
Pure talent, live, no auto-tune, no filter...just greatness.
Yep David..the real fucking deal 👍👍
Dragon Attack the most underrated Queen song of all and my most favorite. Up there with Another One Bites the Dust. Nice reaction! Thanks
Freddie's most versatile instrument, as ever, the audience.

A good older Queen banger live is White Queen live at Hammersmith. Freddie really hits it's hard on the keys with a great vocal performance as well.
Mercury is a “Performer for the Ages!”

Another hard rocking Queen Song is "Tie Your Mother Down"
I would say Stone cold crazy is better
Sheer Heart Attack is a belter too x
Live Wembley is my favorite version.
Another unexpected vibe is Dreamers Ball from 1979 Paris live.
This song was big when I was a teenager in the 80’s. Yes, I’m old.
Try Stone Cold Crazy at the Rainbow for an awesome thrash song by Queen.

This song gives me the same feeling I get when a fight is about to begin where I face overwhelmingly odds. And the title is appropriate.
I bought The Game as an 8-track when it came out. This was my favorite song on it. Added to the buzz I had while driving around....lol
Studio version? "Who wants to live forever"( so beautiful and powerful song), "friends will be friends", " another one bite the dust"

yes the studio version is raw and funky
another "unknown" banger : "dead on time"
The guitarist, Brian May, has a PhD in Physics.
