This man is next level, I’m truly speechless, his technicality is beyond Vai and his tapping is beyond Van Haley, the dude is channelling something truly divine
This Is probably my favorite performance of this Song. Much respect to this man, immense Guitar player! The more I watch him playing the more I want to pick my guitar!
No matter how many times I watch this, it blows my mind. His singing vibrato is to die for. He's using low output single coils (stacked to cancel out hum and noise.) with not much distortion. It's in his hands.
While I agree that he's a fantastic player, nobody's perfect, which also applies here. I noted a few mistakes in his playing, but that just confirms his own humanity, else I'd be spooked. Cheers.
how can people say his playing is emotionless? I disagree, he's not just a mindless shredder, his touch is super recognizable and unique, the articulation is never boring, he's not just blindly going up and down scales. His bendings and vibratos are iconic. Don't get me wrong, there are mindless shredders, but I think he's not one of them. His solos aren't mindless shredding, just rock n roll on steroids.
He so is. Just another 80's bach n' roller. They all sounded pretty much the same. He is fast and technically skilled nobody can doubt but there are few adults that want to listen to him for very long.
@@PlanktoniusRex considering that the average iq in the world is 105, your comment doesn't make these "few adults" look like inferiors, but the opposite to that...
We should all wish to know ourselves as well as Yngwie knows and expresses himself through his music. No one else could've written this because no one else can write _your_ music.
Yngwie is Swedens national treasure. Been to Japan for a while now and Yngwie seem to be huge here. Everyone in Fenders flagship store in Tokyo picked his signature guitar over anyone else's, to play on.
When it comes to art, there is a level of refinement so high, that a normal person wouldn’t appreciate the skill, they don’t comprehend how good it is. Show this piece to any nonmetal head, they just say that Malmsteem is fast, they might say that this doesn’t even sound good, then show it to a metal head, they might dig it and appreciate the music complexity, but then show it to a guitarist, he will be in awe! He will understand the skill required to play this masterpiece.

If anything, the guy is underrated. His technique and style was so revolutionary and influential, that his ability as a composer can get overlooked. The studio version of this track is a fucking incredible piece of music, and that's very evident in how it came out in the cover by that amazing Japanese band, with the cute and astonishingly talented violinist. Yngwie is one of the absolute all-time greats.
@jorgerodriguez145 By "they" you mean those of us who understand the music and Yngwie's impact. But unfortunately there are numerous music fans and stupid critics/journalistics who don't get and don't have enough depth to feel and grasp his music and playing. Back in the 80s there was this boring mantra that Yngwie couldn't write good songs; this at the time Trilogy came out, which had a ton of great songs! So you're right, he's not underrated by those whose opinions matter, but he is still underrated more in some wider circles.
Nah..if you watch the entire video you'll see him flop on some classical music stuff from Bach which wasn't meant to be played on guitar and acknowledge it. He also acknowledges he can't play fully alternate picking, like Al di Meola does. The point being the reality of Guitar. Guitar is way too broad in versatility to be mastered by a single man. The known man that is the closest to be that versatile is named Guthrie Govan.
Privilege to be alive at the same time as this guy and that he is still with us. For shred lovers he is the master. Sure maybe he hasn't 'evolved' much as he's aged or whatever but what he played in his 20s has never been matched. My favourite player ever in the rock shred genre.
I think this is the best guitar performance of all history. He was soo in the zone, and this recording was lighting in a bottle. Jason Becker is who i king as best guitar player, but this video makes me question that every time, i watch it.
This is actually my favorite "live" version of "Far Beyond the Sun" by Yngwie...and I have heard so many (official as well as unofficial / bootleg concert recordings). Honorable mention goes to his renditions of this piece in "Live in Lenigrad", as well as "Live in Brazil". This performance is from his Young Guitar--Play Loud video series. He is completely focused, and is laser precise. I really love his phrasing during the impromptu solo sections. I absolutely love the brief arpeggio transition that occurs starting at 04:00, and is reprised at 05:24. And his light speed pedal pointing lick beginning at 03:40 is downright scary. Of course, his playing is helped by the fact that he is actually concentrating, and not twirling his guitar around his body, kicking picks left and right, and running all over a stage like a mad man. Here, he just gets down to business.
Just outstanding, always thought this guy was awesome. Saw him Cardiff in the early 80's at St David's Hall, and he flicked his plectrum and it hit me in the chest. I still have it to this day. Always amazes me that his Stratocaster stays in tune without a locking nut lol.
the secret, he says is to put a block of wood where the middle spring would be in the back of the guitar, and to tune the guitar to Eb. though, having a bunch of them kind of helps too.
One of the many things to marvel about while watching this is how quickly and how often he changes the pickup position from the 1st to the 5th all throughout the piece.
Honestly, the more I watch this video, the more I believe something magical really has been caught on tape here. Yngwie's soul really was connected to his instrument !

If only all people can comprehend fast music. Every note matters. That part from 4:00 to 4:24 is something big musicians don't manage to write in a whole career. Look up what guitar stars say about Yngwie.
Freaking incredible! This man's talent is truly a gift from God.

This performance is just amazingly incredible!!! So clear, so incredibly shreddingly awesome!!!

This man is next level, I’m truly speechless, his technicality is beyond Vai and his tapping is beyond Van Haley, the dude is channelling something truly divine
i think you forgot jason becker that wrote song at 16 and was already at his lvl when he was 16

This Is probably my favorite performance of this Song. Much respect to this man, immense Guitar player! The more I watch him playing the more I want to pick my guitar!
Definately!
I looked at my guitar after watching this and it threw a glass of water in my face.
Lol🤣🤣
Funny bastard 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My guitar too.
LOL
Ya you do that 😂
No matter how many times I watch this, it blows my mind. His singing vibrato is to die for. He's using low output single coils (stacked to cancel out hum and noise.) with not much distortion. It's in his hands.
yeah me too. it gives liberation the supporting effects making it heard much clearly from the roots.( the sensation of his fingers).
He actually uses a ton of gain.. his overdrive pedal is with level and gain in 10. but still, it's obviously in his hands.
He simply can’t do anything wrong while playing. He transmits real strong confidence with guitar. A real guitar hero!
While I agree that he's a fantastic player, nobody's perfect, which also applies here. I noted a few mistakes in his playing, but that just confirms his own humanity, else I'd be spooked. Cheers.
This clip is all kinds of brutal. incredible playing, tone is superb, his timing is so tight. Everything was happening in this session
how can people say his playing is emotionless? I disagree, he's not just a mindless shredder, his touch is super recognizable and unique, the articulation is never boring, he's not just blindly going up and down scales. His bendings and vibratos are iconic. Don't get me wrong, there are mindless shredders, but I think he's not one of them. His solos aren't mindless shredding, just rock n roll on steroids.
He so is. Just another 80's bach n' roller. They all sounded pretty much the same. He is fast and technically skilled nobody can doubt but there are few adults that want to listen to him for very long.
@Troll Bot People who don't accept criticism of people they admire are soft and must resort to insults to get their point across.
The emotions are in the music.
@@PlanktoniusRex considering that the average iq in the world is 105, your comment doesn't make these "few adults" look like inferiors, but the opposite to that...
@PriestOfTheUnholy ikr, they should hear his entire first album, not a bad song on it, also 'Forever is a Long Time', and many more
My 2003 middle school self still trying to convince me that all I need are those scalloped frets and then I’ll be able to shred like Malmsteen.
Amateur. It's not the frets, it's the jewellery!
@@taunokekkonen5733 the hair actually, put it all together with leather spandex and you will literally become Yngwie.
I almost spit out my drink! My buddy had his frets done in like '87. I didn't hear much of a difference in his playing. Sorry Jeff.
Damn yngwie just shredded a whole new shredding generation .hail to the king yngwie mslmsteen
Some of the best classic composers would probably come back to life just to applaud this guy in awe of his virtuosity
Whether one likes Yngwie's speed approach or not, he or she has to admit that the man really has some incredible vibrato.
He definately has incredible vibrato..that type of skill cant be done on a standard guitar neck unless it's scalloped like his is.
He also can make the guitar scream!
Yep...yngwie is first class player all the way
Timliu92 your damn right!
not going to lie he's kind of a douche bag of a human being, but GOD DAMN he's amazing at this style of music
His name is and will always be in the history of music, a source of inspiration for many included me,
We should all wish to know ourselves as well as Yngwie knows and expresses himself through his music. No one else could've written this because no one else can write _your_ music.
Yngwie is Swedens national treasure. Been to Japan for a while now and Yngwie seem to be huge here.
Everyone in Fenders flagship store in Tokyo picked his signature guitar over anyone else's, to play on.
Master of HIS craft.. That's why there's only one like him and he changed the guitar soundscape forever.
Well said... Cheers!

Yes, that was too much.
What I appreciate about this video is that he wasn't focused on nailing it, he was just jamming with glee.
Can't be said better
Same can be said about Cacophony
and Racer X to an extent
I don't like this solo, he is boring
Just sounds like elitist shit to me. I'm a musician, and can appreciate the skill and composition of this, but I feel literally nothing listening to him play.
@@Ash_Hudson I'm a guitarist, and feel passion from this piece.

O que mais me impressiona é que sua mão direita quase nem se mexe. Esses vibratos e bends beirão a perfeição!

The most amazing about Yngwie is that he improvies for the most part n his playing skill so flawless n so beautiful the true GUITAR GOD

watched/listened to this and was thinking WoW 0.0 I'm blown away then dropped down to the comment section and was not expecting that. This man is up there making love to the guitar . I cant play for shit but to me, this just impresses the shit out of me, the time and effort someone has to put into mastering finger coordination like this is insanely hard to comprehend.
Mike - you understand things. Yngwie is practically supernatural. His vibrato and attack is legendary. Cheers
ITS THE FRET BOARD ITS HAS CURVES/ DENTS IT CREATES THE VIBRATO SOUND ALMOST EFFORTLESSLY , I ONCE HAD A CHEAP SQUIRE THAT I FILED THE FRET BOARD TO RECREATE YNGWIES GUITAR NECK
I remember my dad had a copy of this video and I would watch it over and over as a kid. My dad got me into playing guitar at thst time and he put this video in the TV and was just like "check this out."
I think most of the people don’t see what this man plays! So Great! That picking hand is a gift!
such a timeless masterpiece.
Each year I'm coming back to listen to this performance, it's definitely the best! 🥇
I was in Yngwie Malmsteen show and it's not even close to this improvisation.

Still unbelievable after all these years.
I still can't believe it too
Been listening to Malmsteen since I was a teen in the eighties and I still have to pick up my jaw from the floor now.
saw him open for Iron Maiden pn Powerslave, he played Eruption, and Randy and everything like it was practice
Underrated? What are you talking about. They all know he Is the GOAT.
So you're right, he's not underrated by those whose opinions matter, but he is still underrated more in some wider circles.
if aliens invaded the earth and proposed a guitar duel to conquer this planet, they would have serious problems with malmsteen
jajajaja
Nah..if you watch the entire video you'll see him flop on some classical music stuff from Bach which wasn't meant to be played on guitar and acknowledge it. He also acknowledges he can't play fully alternate picking, like Al di Meola does. The point being the reality of Guitar. Guitar is way too broad in versatility to be mastered by a single man. The known man that is the closest to be that versatile is named Guthrie Govan.
@@einarabelc5 Petrucci...
@@einarabelc5 - Yngwie is a beast, he's a game changer like Hendrix and EVH before him. His vibrato is also top notch, just ask Guthrie Govan.
Ever hear of Charles Caswell?
For all the frantic and stupendous sounds, he makes the execution of it look bizarrely easy and effortless.
How do you not like this! He is just incredible!
4:35 did he tremolo with his teeth?
Yep.
Yes.. He did tremolo with his teeth
How?
well thats the question.. how
He does everything on a guitar. Period.
How could anyone give this a thumbs down? This gives me the chills
I love when Malmsteen likes his self a lot, all sounds better in his music. Maestro!
I am always reminded why i take such long breaks from his songs even though they amaze me... they just leave me exhausted. In a good way.
And a brass nut too
One of the many things to marvel about while watching this is how quickly and how often he changes the pickup position from the 1st to the 5th all throughout the piece.
