    Eli is fast becoming a guru in permaculture and food forest. His knowledge far exceeds his age, as well as his brother Ian as a blacksmith, gifted way above his age. Truly good people you like to be around!

    I liked what Eli said about putting the Bananas in a place where you plan to plant a fruit tree. I’ve done this and it seems to work well.

    Are you on the south side of a lake? Seems you have an amazing microclimate there.
    I’m on the west side of a lake in north orlando and I lost all my mangos, jackfruit, and even longans.

    Great job, Eli. I can hardly believe you are growing all that in Umatilla. I'm in Orlando, and also live in a bit of a warmer microclimate. We are significantly farther south, but still we experienced 31°C two nights in a row last December. It was our first freeze in many years. My mangos, avos, and macadamias were completely unfazed, but my coffee plants and some of the other true tropicals were killed. Im always looking for new sources of unusual plants, and I'd love to know if you are selling any of the plants you propagate.

    Use ash around your trunks keep the ants away but only in the trees you want to keep the ants away. Ants are also a great pollinator.

    Has he tried borax ant traps? Put it in a container that is weighed down and holes on the side for ants to get in but keep the rain out.

    How do you deal with snakes? Specifically moccasins. I have to constantly look out for them and the water snakes.

    • @elireed6653
      @elireed6653 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually just watch where I step, mostly have black racers here and they're pretty skittish but there has been the occasional coral snake, I just watch out.

    • @ianreed3955

      Hawks take care of them too.

    • @trishignao8191
      @trishignao8191 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we get the coral snakes and I have seen one water moccasin but plenty of black racers to take care of all the venomous ones in my part of Umatilla.

    • @sonnyamoran7383
      @sonnyamoran7383 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Watching out is automatic around here. But we have many moccasins and rattlers. Tall grass or weeds is definitely a NO-NO. And small elderly dogs that can't hear, and 1 nearly blind. Nothing taller than grass height. My nephew killed a 6 foot rattle snake just a few days ago, only 1/4 mile away.
