There's a short MTV documentary that portraits the whole change REALLY well, especially with her interviews across the years. As someone who has Lyme, this song resonated with me so much. I am a musician and a singer. The first time I heard this I started crying and then after I listened to an interview of talking about how Head Above Water was inspired by her battle with Lyme I completely broke down. The song touched me because I could relate to crying out God because I felt like it would never end and and I would never be able to sing again. I was so scared. I was 15 when I was diagnosed in 2017 and that was one of the darkest moments of my life. The treatment made me extremely sick and my body didn’t handle it well, on top of the Lyme, most days I though I was going to die and could hardly get out of bed. It was my relationship with Jesus, music, and my family and friends who got me through. I can only imagine how hard this song was to write. Singing raw lyrics like those is extremely hard on an emotional level. I commend you for your bravery, for being and inspiration, and showing others to keep pushing forward no matter what stands in there way. Avril you are an incredible vocalist and an even more incredible human being!

When I first heard this song I had to hold back my emotions because I was at a course. I came home, rolled up and went for a smoke with my headphones. When the bridge and final chorus came in I broke down in tears, just the way she pleads ‘don’t let me drown’ like please don’t let me die just yet and that hit me so hard. This song can also be a reference to depression as well as her fight for Lyme disease so Thankyou Avril, this song made me feel much stronger!
I can relate...I’ve been dealing with health problems since August of feeling a lot of pressure on my head sometimes and being woozy a lot. I’ve been to like 4 doctors and I’m still not 100% sure what it is. Sometimes I hear this song and it just makes me want to breakdown...I hate what I’ve been going through and sometimes I just don’t know how to deal with it. This song calms me a lot...and I always pray to God to release me from this hell I’m going through.

Now days there is no studio and live almost every singer now days travels with $100k+ in studio equipment that stuff you see off the side of the stage flashing is not guitar or amp stuff and the guy in the back on the sound board is not just working the lights and volume they are working the studio items to make them sound allmost the same as a cd live. The mishaps at things like grammys and vma's show that when the singers are sounding like them self and they say it is a mic mishap or somthing in those line. Real singers that sound the same are like cheap trick,Alice Cooper and others from a time when that stuff was not out there you will find sound same on a LP and a stage are the same even now. Dont get me wrong I love Avril but saying she is like an artist from the past on and off stage with out all the equipment is not correct.

No, wait. Let's get that stratight. Back in November 2017, there was a Facebook Live where she said she had recorded 20+ songs, no one ever mentioned them all ending up on the album. She NEVER said that there will be more songs like this on the album neither "a lot". (Or give me a source.) This song has truly saved my life on multiple occasions. I have severe depression and anxiety and have attempted suicide a few times. I remember when I heard this song for the first time the day it came out and I literally bawled my eyes out. I couldn’t stop listening to it. Even now I still listen to this song a couple times a day. This song has helped me in so many ways and has given me hope. Even though I actually don’t believe in God, this song is so special to me and will always have a special place in my heart. Avril Lavigne also happens to be one of my all-time favorite singers so it makes it even more special. And I just absolutely love this live rendition. As someone who has Lyme, this song resonated with me so much. I am a musician and a singer. The first time I heard this I started crying and then after I listened to an interview of talking about how Head Above Water was inspired by her battle with Lyme I completely broke down. The song touched me because I could relate to crying out God because I felt like it would never end and and I would never be able to sing again. I was so scared. I was 15 when I was diagnosed in 2017 and that was one of the darkest moments of my life. The treatment made me extremely sick and my body didn’t handle it well, on top of the Lyme, most days I though I was going to die and could hardly get out of bed. It was my relationship with Jesus, music, and my family and friends who got me through. I can only imagine how hard this song was to write. Singing raw lyrics like those is extremely hard on an emotional level. I commend you for your bravery, for being and inspiration, and showing others to keep pushing forward no matter what stands in there way. Avril you are an incredible vocalist and an even more incredible human being!

When I first heard this song I had to hold back my emotions because I was at a course. I came home, rolled up and went for a smoke with my headphones. When the bridge and final chorus came in I broke down in tears, just the way she pleads ‘don’t let me drown’ like please don’t let me die just yet and that hit me so hard. This song can also be a reference to depression as well as her fight for Lyme disease so Thankyou Avril, this song made me feel much stronger!

I can relate...I’ve been dealing with health problems since August of feeling a lot of pressure on my head sometimes and being woozy a lot. I’ve been to like 4 doctors and I’m still not 100% sure what it is. Sometimes I hear this song and it just makes me want to breakdown...I hate what I’ve been going through and sometimes I just don’t know how to deal with it. This song calms me a lot...and I always pray to God to release me from this hell I’m going through.

Now that was a flawless and powerful performance. I literally got goosebumps. It really shows that she was classically trained as a child and teenager. Just the longevity and quality of her live vocals vs studio. She has flawless technique and she’s been able to maintain her tone and range over a pretty amazing career so far. Congrats on making another amazing album Avril!
She was most likely trained as an adult. She couldn't sing like this back in the days of under my skin and let go
Now days there is no studio and live almost every singer now days travels with $100k+ in studio equipment that stuff you see off the side of the stage flashing is not guitar or amp stuff and the guy in the back on the sound board is not just working the lights and volume they are working the studio items to make them sound allmost the same as a cd live. The mishaps at things like grammys and vma's show that when the singers are sounding like them self and they say it is a mic mishap or somthing in those line. Real singers that sound the same are like cheap trick,Alice Cooper and others from a time when that stuff was not out there you will find sound same on a LP and a stage are the same even now. Dont get me wrong I love Avril but saying she is like an artist from the past on and off stage with out all the equipment is not correct.
It helps that she alternates with the real AL! Way to perform, MV!

Only Avril can -- she always could -- ever since she was 8 y.o., even with something as difficult as a national anthem she was always capable of perfect rendition. As to the US anthem only Carry Underwood can give the anthem its due credit. As to Avril, she is the best singer there is (when it comes to feeling music). Period. Others need heavy autotuning, lip-syncing, etc. But Avril's feel outdoes them all. She can go without autotuning and still be perfect. Only she can pull that off because others won't be perfect without autotune like Avril. Yes, others can go without autotune too but, there's a large "but": Their music won't perfect.

This song has truly saved my life on multiple occasions. I have severe depression and anxiety and have attempted suicide a few times. I remember when I heard this song for the first time the day it came out and I literally bawled my eyes out. I couldn’t stop listening to it. Even now I still listen to this song a couple times a day. This song has helped me in so many ways and has given me hope. Even though I actually don’t believe in God, this song is so special to me and will always have a special place in my heart. Avril Lavigne also happens to be one of my all-time favorite singers so it makes it even more special. And I just absolutely love this live rendition.
