Love this video! I see it was filmed here on my home lake, Lake Cumberland!! I got to meet a lot of these guys last year and this year, most are very nice. I really appreciate the video and their responses. Good luck Joe and thanks!
Joe, I just got tuned into your channel. I have been working nightshift and binge watching lol. Wanted to say I love the behind the scenes look at everything. The break downs the living in your car it's all part of pro fishing I've learned. I'm currently fishing BFL tournaments loving it. The back of the boat is a great place to start. I have learned so much this year fishing behind good guys and these guys are good at the BFL level. Don't think your gonna come out here and win em all it ain't gonna happen. Thanks again for the vids bro good luck next year see ya at the cup
The best video I've seen for kids dreaming to bass fish for a living. Very sound advice all around. Kids, note the emphasis on education, experience, and work ethic! This applies to any successful career!
Wow. What a great bunch of guys. You hit the nail on the head Joe. When I was 13 years old or so I read Jay Yelas' book. In it he said "don't rush you dreams, desire must be tempered with wisdom and patience." I think that sums it up pretty well.
great vid; even for guys just wanting to move up and stay productive on a local/regional level....and, boy, ain't Jimmy Houston a treasure? Thanks for sharing!
+trygve riddle , thank you. Unfortunately no in my position. I maintain a full time job all year. Missing time during the season I have to make up during the off season and work extra hard. I also do not have the finances to miss the work and pre travel at this point in my career. Future goals though. Am also working as hard as possible to make next season happen financially and work with sponsors
I'm not a pro fisherman but I looked into the industry as a place to work doing something I love and it seems to me like there isn't as much money in it in general as people may think ... much of it is saturated with companies that can produce products extremely cheaply so newcomers are all but dead on arrival ... also until major television networks begin broadcasting more competitive fishing the money will remain stagnant to a point although I did see on CBS this past weekend there was a cool bass fishing tournament format but only 8-10 guys ! Bottom line is dream big but not everybody is going to have their own line of products like KVD does! Go get em Joe !
Thanks for the response Joe ! It's really too bad there isn't more space in the market but I think expanding your marketability through social media is smart so if you do wish to enter the market you have a consumer base ! I looked at buying or investing in new companies or small companies but I didn't see anything that really caught my eye as profitable ... if you ever have a business idea let me know I saw you at the Potomac River event and it's obvious you have a way with people !
Thanks for this video joe... I wanna become a pro more than anything... I'm gonna try to go through the college route and try to get sponsors to help me out if I can do good in college tournaments👍🏻
Jimmy had some real pointers I def put in the time the best thing hands down I know like the back of my hand is fishing I could do it blind folded as well as fall in the water but college I do not have under my belt. That some wholesome advice he gave. But the true secret which the other guys said over and over the true secret is money that's the one and only ticket. No one catches them everyday and to be a pro you need big bags and that No one can control time and money is everything
Mr joe can u do some smallmouth on the water chasing and tips on there nomatic nature maybe some offshore stuff map study on there movements and always keep shoving the bass in the camera
+Bass Monkey Fishing , yes, I'm in the process of selling this years boat and buying next years, if I have my boat for a weekend in Maine I will shoot one for you .
I may be off base, but it seems like the big players in the industry (tackle companies, etc.) should give back and support the pros more. They're making a lot of money off the backs of the pros. But, that's coming from a weekender that may have no clue how it all works.
+Michael Edens , yeah there is a ton more to it than meets the eyes. The biggest tackle companies do a ton with pro staff and the smaller ones do what they can I believe. There isn't that much money across the board in the fishing industry, not a lot of people are getting rich. That's why you see most pros going outside the industry for sponsorship. The pros are undercut so badly by the amateur fishermen inside the industry that the companies inside the industry do not see the value in paying a pro for representation when they can give fifty guys a 25 percent discount that will work very hard to promote them and give away all of their own and future value for a discount. I will shoot a video on it this summer a little more in depth.
Personally, I believe you are never to "old" to do anything. The important thing is your health. How old you are compared to how you feel are two totally different items. If your health is well enough to do so, go for it.
One might THINK that the education advice would be "get a degree in fisheries biology - you're fishing after all!" Instead most all the advice for education was "get a MARKETING degree!" I gotta admit they're probably right - marketing.
Love this video! I see it was filmed here on my home lake, Lake Cumberland!! I got to meet a lot of these guys last year and this year, most are very nice. I really appreciate the video and their responses. Good luck Joe and thanks!
Very cool, thank you

+Jeb Steadham , awesome, thank you.
Thanks for the excellent pro interview video. They all had excellent advice.
John Cox: Marry someone rich 🤣 that would be a dream come true haha
You’d be surprised how many guys are pro because of it.
Great video! Thank you for sharing so much insight. Please keep them coming!
+ciscolive22 , thank you, will do.

+Bgbass Goo , thank you, yes it did.
Another gem Joe, you are furthering the sport and inspiring us all. Do you have the time in the off season to fish next season's lakes?
+trygve riddle , thank you. Unfortunately no in my position. I maintain a full time job all year. Missing time during the season I have to make up during the off season and work extra hard. Awesome vid Joe, keep it up

Agreed
You mean that if I had the $500k back my exwife gambled away, I would have a chance to be pro?
Very informative video. I noticed a pattern / trend with most of the anglers; education and experience. I agree 100%. Thanks for the video
+David Kennedy , thank you. Good call. And finances.
I’m fifteen and I’m really wanting to go pro
Lord Dbz same here

+Quinn Hunsinger , you are correct sir, thank you.

+Lerk Hits , awesome , I'm so glad this helps, that's why I put it together

A lot of great advice! Also glad to see that John Cox can afford chicken nuggets these days. Haha
+Yaksouthfishing , ha, he stepped up from pb&j
Joe Holland Fishing I'm going to be on the road the next three weeks and it will be a white bread and water kind of month. Haha
It's ramen, rice and McDonald's ketchup soup for us poor guys.
Great tips from the best!
+Everglades Bassmasters of South Florida , thank you.

Thank you!

Great video, joe!
+Mike Thurman , thank you
Very good advice!!!
+Mark Lozier , thank you
Well I’ve had the chicken tenders and pb&j sandwiches down for years now. 😂😂
The question should have been when you have all these skills but don't have the money how do you get started?
I think it's hilarious how many people said you had to have a lot of money to go pro lol
very true
I'm 12 and I really want to go pro
Nice would love to know the average cost for each event
+BeyondTheBounds , around $6k for an flw Tour event
did you film most of this at lake cumberland?
+Daniel Ward , several were at Cumberland and the rest over the season.
Way to go.
+Dj Foster , thank you.

Joe Holland Fishing thanks for the clarification and insight. I look forward to that video. Should be interesting.
I have bass fished hard for 14 years! Is 46 to old to still chase that dream?
Personally, I believe you are never to "old" to do anything. The important thing is your health. How old you are compared to how you feel are two totally different items. If your health is well enough to do so, go for it.
+David Kennedy , never too old man. We had a couple guys win this year in their 60,s and some compete in their seventies.
+WILLIAM Rogers , nope, that's just coming into your prime.
Thanks Joe! I just caught my PB 8 pounder last year on escambia river last year! Took me 13 years to do that fishing every chance I get!
David Kennedy thanks man I agree 100%!
GOLD
+Bobby Swain , nice.
One might THINK that the education advice would be "get a degree in fisheries biology - you're fishing after all!" Instead most all the advice for education was "get a MARKETING degree!" I gotta admit they're probably right - marketing.
