It's been years but I put myself through school making silver jewelry. I bought a lot of silver from the LCS. Shot purchased from a jewelry supply company was too expensive but the LCS always had a bin of old sterling silverware and all those "investment" fine silver coins. I didn't care what they were, they were fine silver and sold for the lowest price of any other options as no matter what they originally sold for they had no value other than their silver content. And they could be alloyed down to sterling easy enough and it all cast the same. I've still got about 10 lbs of the stuff somewhere. I bought it after the Hunt brothers crashed the market in the early 80's when it was cheap. I'm retired now and thinking of setting up the workbench again, see if I can still do some silversmithing.
Where I'm at, we use the Silver shot for the rare and elusive Dog Man. Now, the Dog Women, they're so plentiful it's not worth wasting the shot on......
I got sucked in to watching coin shows on tv and buying numerous MS69/70 silver coins plus low mintage coin sets (Disney, Godfather and other movie coins) anyway I went to a LCS to try and sell and they would only offer SPOT…which was a ripoff…so I got a friend to sell my collection on eBay and I was lucky to get 75% of my investment back - never again but as I say that all these collectible coins were absolutely beautiful! So now I keep it simple just bullion.
So, okay that is the issue. Buying so called collectable coins off the Internet or TV will always be harder to sell in the short term, because the spot price has not increased to the level where you can sell what you bought it for which is Spot plus that high premium, the dealer on the net or TV was advertising then. It is not that the coin is not attractive, they ALL are attractive but those so called collective coins have a higher premium, which means it should be the last sold in your collection giving more time for the spot price to mover near the price you actually paid for it.
When I first started stacking, I purchased a 4oz gold plated walking liberty silver round… when I went to sell it because I grew to hate it - I was offered way under spot. Reasoning behind this was they had to separate the gold from silver, which is annoying to have to do. Steer clear of anything that is silver with gold plated

Wherever currency fails small incraments of medal shine. When medals moon and they will, your LCS will gladly take the beads. History has already proven this fact all round the world. Wymar, Africa, Venesuela same old song. And were headed that direction. Coins are for barter, beads are for cash.
@@StatesideStash sad to say our day is coming as our political class is way too interested in robbing the Treasury and the US taxpayers blind. A great example of that IS Nancy Pelosi.
Always gotta look at the exit plan If you’re buying to never sell, then buy whatever But if you plan on cashing out, then buy what other people are buying
Is it possible that gold shot could be better for bartering than coins due to the high value gold coins usually carry. Also the irregularities could serve someone well for different purchases on demand. Thoughts?
Good shot for bartering wouldn’t be a bad idea but depending on the doomsday scenario where we have to barter how are you going to convince someone the a golden bead is real gold
With prices high and retail demand low, dealers see everything as the same with just small added value for some things. All those superman rounds that people bought at sky high prices during the pandemic are just silver to a lot of people. Even the premium on many numismatics has been stripped out because dealers don't like buying at these prices unless they can move it quick. Historically, when the move back down comes, it will happen fast. So, it is a little like playing musical chairs, nobody wants to get caught holding excess inventory.
You guys are lucky over in the states , here in Australia they will offer 15-20% of the value then over charge you on the other end . Absolute total rip off merchants . Does $60 AUS for a circulated common date 90% Benji half dollar sound like a good deal ? 😂 . I crap you not , the coin shop directly over the road from Perth mint that’s what they want , and $70 for 1oz silver bullion . That’s $45 US for a silver half 😂 true story
Silver shot for stacking or investing only makes sense if you are youing to make something with it. for barter, no way. how do I know its 999? 90% coins are the ultimate barter stackables.
In my opinion, I think these items could be a great buy at an LCS. I bet you could probably even buy them under spot. A good way to stack more AG for the buck if your primary plan is to just stack AG. Sometimes you can get 40% Kennedy's for under spot. I guess to me silver is silver.
Where possible, find your national mint. National mints like the US mint, Canadian mint, Perth mint and the like will be the the buyer and seller of last resort. Also it's best to sell when the price is still rising and there is some "fat" left in price. Right now, even with the big rise in the silver price, the gold / silver ratio is still 80. It's reasonable historically for the ratio to bottom around 30. I will be selling my silver when the ratio gets around 40:1, I will have made a very good profit and the buyer still has some potential dollars to make on the deal. What is the point in holding it forever, missing it's peak value. Every asset has a time it should be sold, including silver and gold.
Sterling silver items that just take up space and if the LCS dealer is to busy then they’ll never get time to melt it down. They’re in the business of sales not storage
Buying coins and slabbed items are a fool's game. Paying a premium over real market value is plain stupid. Unless you are in love with the "HOBBY" metals are not an investment. You will never get your premium back. The premium is the scam - adding synthetic layers of "value" to the purchase. Investments generate income - metals do not.
Unless you sell them and pocket that profit, its speculative value is meaningless. If the sh!t hits the fan, they'll only be worth spot barter value when you buy bread with them.@StatesideStash
As of right now there seems to be plenty of silver all over America. The only little shortage I see is mercury dimes and Roosevelt dimes. Lots of shops say they sell them as fast as they get them in. I guess that’s why there my favorite to stack because I wouldn’t have a tough time selling them back to most places if I needed some cash. This isn’t financial advice
This is precisely why I DON'T like them. They look too much like the slugs we carry now. Each coin would need to be hand inspected to see if it's silver or not. If you want junk silver, buy silver dollars instead.
Hey Stateside, I also have that Fellowship of the Ring colorized coin. It was the nicest of 3 choices in the series at the time and I could only buy one. I'm a HUGE fantasy nerd, so it's part of my permanent collection. 👍😎
I invested a bunch of my savings into silver and was eager to sell my coins when the price was high, but the local dealers were not interested in buying silver when the value was high. I could have mailed my coins to one of the major dealers, but the cost of mailing and insurance for the coins would have eaten up most of my profits. That proved to me that investing in silver or gold was a poor investment. What good is a pile of silver or gold when nobody is willing to buy it when the value rises? I'll find better ways to invest my money.
I’d talk to your local LCS because my Local LCS buys it all . They actually love buying silver shot and all collectibles as long as your prices is close to there’s when it’s something special.
Just about the only thing im interested in is shot. Because it has an industrial use of fuming for glass. but 1 bead goes along way. If youre fuming you got a torch so anything can be converted to shot in seconds. Just wanted to point out theres a niche where the only thing getting purchased is shot. Whole industry might be worth a couple of ounces.
@@StatesideStash Yeah, it's been the trend the last 6 months it seems like. So long as it doesn't drop below $25 I'm not concerned. I'm fully expecting it to rally back over $30 sometime next week.
Just one of the reasons I stick with circulated coins and recognized US/ CAN recognized bars and coins. All the rest are designer stuff with funny images.
Shouldn't be looking to sell now anyway. When silver finally takes off people will buy ANYTHING that contains silver. Count on it! FOMO is a powerful force.
It's easier to fake bars or coins than shot. Who is going to make tiny beads of some other metal, than cover it with silver? Plus what happens if you only need 1/2 ounce, but only have 1 or 10 Oz stuff, going to cut it in half? Or pour out some l a bag?
I like Maples a lot, both AU and AG because they are a good compromise in the area discussed in this vid. They are highly recognizable, denominated, and have a lower premium than some others, esp, if catching a sale. I prefer to stay with Eagles, Maples, Krugs, Britts in either metal. I haven't always done that, but looking back, I wish I had. Have too many odd ducks - like a Perth Swan or something like that - but I think they're still sellable. Oh, I hate the buffalo design so you won't see it listed. Just don't like 'em, call me weird.
@@StatesideStash I have found that American Gold Buffalos don't stack very nicely, especially the earliest ones. I'm not sure why, but I don't like them because of it. I still have some though. They are .9999 which is what I stack.
@@patrickhenry7416 There is information having "the coin of the realm" is in most demand. Eagles have been expensive so when you think of ounces the cheaper the better. If silver is $100 an ounce it won't be much different whether you sell an eagle or a round. Another outlook is during these financial times of breakdown and new people are turning in their life savings IRAs and 401Ks they only want US Mint coinage. This is where eagles and junk silver come in. People will feel secure with American money.
Of course painted coins will be more expensive. You have to take time and effort (and paint) to make them, there is a cost to that. As for an LCS paying less for them, that is a ripoff. It's still a silver eagle, and contains the same amount of silver. If you really don't like it, a bath in a solvent like acetone or paint thinner will remove the paint completelly. When it comes to collectables, it's all a matter of price. If the premium is too high, just skip them. If you can get for only a small premium over an other type of coin, it can be interesting if you like collecting, of if you want to take a small gamble on them getting higher priced later on. Some coins likes the Marvels series and plenty of others sell for 2 or 3 times the price of silver. Obviously, if you want to do that, you need to sell privately, not to an LCS that will give you spot for everything!

Wherever currency fails small incraments of medal shine. When medals moon and they will, your LCS will gladly take the beads. History has already proven this fact all round the world. Wymar, Africa, Venesuela same old song. And were headed that direction. Coins are for barter, beads are for cash.
Hard to compare us to those places but I see what you’re saying
@@StatesideStash sad to say our day is coming as our political class is way too interested in robbing the Treasury and the US taxpayers blind. A great example of that IS Nancy Pelosi.
Price dip but premiums keep the price the same. Been this way since $25
Sad but true
Sry guys, i bought some silver. Im the reason for the dip. 😂😂😂
@@magicman9321 dude we’ve talked about this!!!

Totally AGREE , I can't understand why they paint coins !!
It’s so ugly 😂
@@StatesideStash Me too. Thats like re-painting over a Picasso artwork.
Got pounds of silver shot back in the day when i was making jewelry for $6 to $8 a ounce. Still have it.
Great deal!
Solid advice when dealing with coin shops. If we have to barter, silver is silver, I think. Atleast for those who know how to rest it.
Exactly!
If ur local LCS don’t buy. You can approach DTS or LTX .
Always gotta look at the exit plan
If you’re buying to never sell, then buy whatever
But if you plan on cashing out, then buy what other people are buying
Well said
That is insane my LCS will buy any kind of silver I would find a new shop silver is silver painted or not.
The LCS I’m referring to does very very well for themselves. Just the way they do business
I ignorantly bought a terminator round with the eyes painted red. It is a limited edition round I will probably get spot for if I ever sell it.
Large stuff like the 100+ ounces, seems to be an issue for some people too.
Very true!
I bought my first silver and gold in 1980. This is the first time I have ever seen silver shot.
That’s kind of surprising!
Anything over $50 I use great collections. I might get more than selling directly to dealers. Or might get less. But that is a sure sell.
😧 well that’s sad! How are they still in business
That’s crazy , should be illegal ❤
Sell online then
Cant you just over seas ship yourself silver?
Start your own business
A werewolves worst nightmare. Silver shot.😂
Always be prepared!
Just tried to sell my 100 oz Engelhard bar yesterday to my LCS. Nope, not interested. Guess I'm stuck with it.
@@chassisresearchkid I mean, not a bad bar to get stuck with. Better luck in peer to peer sale
Get a new LCS, obviously. B-)
I buy 100 oz bars.
I'm sure APMEX would buy it.
Get ready for a big haircut if you are selling to APMEX.
I’m a Gold Stacker but definitely holding a fair amount of silver !!! 🥇🥈
Silver shot for stacking or investing only makes sense if you are youing to make something with it. for barter, no way. how do I know its 999? 90% coins are the ultimate barter stackables.
Constitutional silver for the win!
In my opinion, I think these items could be a great buy at an LCS. I bet you could probably even buy them under spot. A good way to stack more AG for the buck if your primary plan is to just stack AG. Sometimes you can get 40% Kennedy's for under spot. I guess to me silver is silver.
I just can’t bring myself to by 40% kennedys or war nickles
Id love to be able to buy some silver or gold shot from my local lcs!
Sterling silver items that just take up space and if the LCS dealer is to busy then they’ll never get time to melt it down. They’re in the business of sales not storage
I have 40 oz of 4 9s fine shot. Lowest premium to buy. And sell. Just saying.
I wish you had put where I can see that Inventory of Silver Shot in the Description. I'm looking for Cheap/Undesirable Silver.
3 months later... where are these silver bars at slacker😂 I would be definitely interested in buying one if you do. Keep the videos coming
Where can i get the patton and napoleon coin??
Silvershot best sold to jeweler that makes their own product. They pay a premium to their wholesalers so better to sell to the end user.
I’ll keep this in mind!
junk 64 usa coins. you'll never go wrong selling. Nobody wants Cher's 1 oz slab
My slabbed numismatics have done very well in gaining value over their original purchase price sooooo
I’m a HUGE fan of constitutional silver. Like you said it’s very liquid
APMEX has dimes on sale for 99cents over spot right now.
Isn’t it the coolest?! I love nerding out 🤣
Would you trade constitutional for a 1/10 gold liberty
Depends how much constitutional you have and if you own any gold
@@StatesideStash I'm asking you if you want the gold for constitutional
@@AnuddaGoy ohh I see. No thank you
I invested a bunch of my savings into silver and was eager to sell my coins when the price was high, but the local dealers were not interested in buying silver when the value was high.
I have a gold plated half. I use it to make decisions. Heads or tails. Whiskey sour or Margarita, just ask John.
I’d talk to your local LCS because my Local LCS buys it all . They actually love buying silver shot and all collectibles as long as your prices is close to there’s when it’s something special.
Coin shops not a great business. Margins and carry costs. Higher prices might not benefit you.
Price doesn’t matter, it’s volume…they buy for 4-8% under and sell 4-8% over…
Sell silver on CL for spot. We have people in my area buying it for art projects.
The paint comes off those eagles with acetone real easy
I won’t buy big bars of silver..10oz plus is what I call not for me zone
Interesting. 10oz bars are known and preferred by many people
Just about the only thing im interested in is shot. Because it has an industrial use of fuming for glass. but 1 bead goes along way. If youre fuming you got a torch so anything can be converted to shot in seconds. Just wanted to point out theres a niche where the only thing getting purchased is shot. Whole industry might be worth a couple of ounces.
Piles and piles of the stuff at my LCS.
The silver shot?
Hell I’d just apply some paint remover to get the paint off those dollar rounds.
I would imagine silver shot being a good bartering option for when shtf.
You’d think so but how are you gonna convince someone it’s silver
Thoughts on silvers recent dip?
Hit a resistance point and it being Friday just makes it that much worse
@@StatesideStash Yeah, it's been the trend the last 6 months it seems like. So long as it doesn't drop below $25 I'm not concerned. I'm fully expecting it to rally back over $30 sometime next week.
@@rm1042 we will see!
Very helpful thank you
Always sell to a goldsmith for spot, that's where your unwanted silver go's,
If I can get more mining selling to them over and LCS I will
Any comments on the 10oz bars and whatever is on sale approach
Great advice. Thank you....
I was thinking the same thing, werewolf shotgun shells.
Those painted coins, rounds, and bars are for collectors…not stackers
You’d be surprised the amount of people that stack them though
Acetone takes the paint off without a trace
It's easier to fake bars or coins than shot. Who is going to make tiny beads of some other metal, than cover it with silver? Plus what happens if you only need 1/2 ounce, but only have 1 or 10 Oz stuff, going to cut it in half? Or pour out some l a bag?
I don’t know about it being easier
I like Maples a lot, both AU and AG because they are a good compromise in the area discussed in this vid. They are highly recognizable, denominated, and have a lower premium than some others, esp, if catching a sale. I prefer to stay with Eagles, Maples, Krugs, Britts in either metal. I haven't always done that, but looking back, I wish I had. Have too many odd ducks - like a Perth Swan or something like that - but I think they're still sellable. Oh, I hate the buffalo design so you won't see it listed. Just don't like 'em, call me weird.
Like buffalo rounds or the American gold buffalo
@@StatesideStash I have found that American Gold Buffalos don't stack very nicely, especially the earliest ones. I'm not sure why, but I don't like them because of it. I still have some though. They are .9999 which is what I stack.
My LCS buys a lot of silver (e.g., silverware) but I would never stack anything but Eagles.
I heavily stacked type 1 eagles for years till the new eagle came out
For these times in the US, yes.
Limiting to just eagles, premiums too high I go with maples and Britannia also…
Why not rounds?
@@patrickhenry7416 There is information having "the coin of the realm" is in most demand. Eagles have been expensive so when you think of ounces the cheaper the better. If silver is $100 an ounce it won't be much different whether you sell an eagle or a round. Another outlook is during these financial times of breakdown and new people are turning in their life savings IRAs and 401Ks they only want US Mint coinage. This is where eagles and junk silver come in. People will feel secure with American money.
I will stack anything silver. Broken jewelry sterling Canadian coin us coin if its silver add it to the box
LCS are the gatekeepers that push half the market away
There are some LCS that can be a turn off but the majority are solid
Thanks for watching
Great content as always.
Thanks brother!
Coin Shops are nothing more than Gloried Pawn Shops, LOL.
Gold and silver is my go to when I plan to buy carelessly unecessary stuff that I don't need. Living within my means, buy gold and silver with 20% of my income. I don't do stocks. I dont believe in the stock market. I certainly don't believe in retirement plan when it's your money but THEIR RULES.
