- China has built a Biotech Island in the Pearl River! What is going on?
I went to the city of Guangzhou to pay a visit to Bio Island, an island that is not only full of biotech companies, but also full of autonomous vehicles. The roads are packed with driverless buses, driverless taxis, driverless street sweepers, and driverless delivery trucks! This is quite simply what the future might look like a few years from now. But is it safe?
I've never been in a self-driving vehicle before, so I decided to take a driverless bus for a spin around the island.

No zombie drugs addict on the street, no homeless, no extreme poverty, and no crime. All place is green and full of hi-tech. This is the dream come true.
the pace of developing in China is just amazing . i go back to China about every 3years, each time i am always shocked of how different to last visit , how advance it has become, how many new things not just invented but has become norm in lifes . it is just unbelievable to me as a Chinese living aboard.
As a Hakka-Indonesian, I used to hold Australia / Singapore in a very high regard. Both were also where I am very likely to send my kids for future education. After seeing this, I may very well have to adjust my plan and send them to Guangzhou / Shenzhen instead.
Things seem to come full circle now. My great grandparent and grandparent left Guangdong to escape chaotic poverty-stricken China right around the demise of Qing dynasty. It is now time for my offspring to return and contribute to their true motherland, China. 😀.
My late grandparents would have been immensely proud and boastful of their Guangdong origin, had they still been alive today.
Btw, do you see any chance that your native Britain will catch up to Guangdong province (in terms of development that is) in foreseeable future (say 10-15 years) ?
Doubtful. But I hope UK can improve. Hope every country can enjoy prosperity, health and happiness!
@@TravelinChina You don’t seem that optimistic my friend. Getting an able leader in supposedly “democratic” country and beneficial things done quickly seems to be wishful thinking at best..
Look at UK. 13/14 years of Tory PMs and the only people who have benefited are rich people and big companies. That's why I'm not very optimistic.

You can brand China all you want but the bottom line the Chinese government works for the well-being of the citizens and the country.
I have been to many big cities in China and I can count the homeless in one or two hands. In the US and UK...you need a calculator. Job well done China!

China now has autonomous subways, autonomous buses, and autonomous taxis. China is still relatively advanced in artificial intelligence technology, and there is also a robot restaurant in Shunde, Guangdong, where all cooking and services are completed by robots.

The robot restaurant in Shunde City, Guangdong Province is very famous. I haven't been there before, but I have seen it in many media outlets, fully automated.
Sadly we have idiot politicians and media from USA and some equivalent goons in Europe slowing down and creating stumbling block for the advancement for mankind. Warmongers and destroyers wouldn't wish to see how human can improves
Right and wrong. China is not relatively but very advanced in AI, probably ahead of the US already or in different areas of AI.

I'll picture a scenario: you put these autonomous whatever in a society where population generally display a reasonable amount of discipline, and it would work. Put them in a society where people are PROUD of breaking rules in the name of freedom, meanwhile making tiktok shorts vandalizing and getting millions of likes, then it's worth nothing.
You might be right. Look what happened to shared bicycles in Manchester, UK. They all ended up in the canal. So stupid.
You mean like vandalism in Britain where bikes for hire often ended up in canals and vandalised. Most schemes collapsed. Even run-of-the-mill bus shelters often get trashed.
In Britain, shared bicycles only work in very wealthy cities I believe. What a pity.

by the time my country owns these technology high speed rails, autonomous public transport (if lucky) in the next 25 years, China most likely started building a moon base.

If currently fossils fuel usage is at 50%,before 2030.
It look like they are far ahead in theirs target,with remarkable breakthrough in renewables energy.
China might be the only Nation,that willl be carbon free before 2060,or perhaps 2050.

They also have autonomous city buses for public transit in Shenzhen and Shanghai that I've seen. In contrast, the US needs armed marshalls on its public transit and airplanes due to high US violence.

The problem in “rich” western cities like San Francisco or Philadelphia the second you put one of these babies on the road there is that it will be full of homeless.
