We heard this song when we learned about coriolan at school. Now I'm all into Beethoven and getting more and more into classic music, thanks to my Latin teacher!
This piece is the overture to tragedy titled Coriolan. In it, a man called Coriolanus has led an army to the Gates of Rome and is about to invade (this represents the loud and strong parts). However, his mother pleads to him for him to desist (this represents the occasional smoother and more tender part). Finally, he agrees, but because he has already led an army to Rome, he cannot turn back and instead commits suicide (this is the finally 20 or so measures where it gets quieter and the song ends with a chilling and soft ending).
El Matiz Dramático es la obseción en las grandes obras de Ludwig. "Como estallidos, y luego y Aguila que vuela y planea a través del viento" "Nubes a punto de estallar en un dia muy gris". Que grande Ludwig mi idolo
Beethoven was beyond far beyond of his times, even today, Beethoven is the immortal. His music is deep touching the deepest of our soul and the performance by Karajan is on of the best ever. !!!Excelent!!!
For me, he's really the first heavy metal composer. No one before had properly introduced the note of anguished terror into his purely instrumental music. (I qualify the statement because the final act of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" is as hardcore as anything ever written.)
Karajan is one of the greatest masters who understands the music from WITHIN! epecially with Beethoven, Sibelius, Strauss and Tschaikowsky. We should be very grateful with his great performances!
In accordance with the other reactions: this may be the most Beethovenish piece of all time; rebellish, agressive, untrusting, powerfull, yet very human, understanding, tolerant, etc. This is the best performance ever, the master playing it with equal qualities.
Except that Beethoven is music straight from mount Olympus while heavy metal is from the depths of hell the very antithesis of what the gods created through Beethoven!
@@zafferung4440 Dude it's spelled differently in American English than it is in British English lol. It's just like color/colour, favor/favour, honor/honour, etc.

In all Beethoven's works you can hear the oppression, idealism, revolution, megalomania and desolation that characterised his period in history. That's what makes him so much more compelling than Mozart. Mozart made a career entertaining the elite with pretty music. Beethoven told huge, ugly, sweeping, historical stories with his music...
You should be aware that Mozart died at 33 and Beethoven at 57. If MOzart would have lived up to 60 is hard to say who would have been the absolute master. Because Mozart did everything in his short life from opera, concerto, symphonies and the great Requiem.
That's one of the reasons why most of Beethoven's performances suck these days; too many western Europeans and Americans live too well, happily, and comfortably in their air-conditioned homes to comprehend Beethoven's wrath. Try living in a world filled with destruction, oppression, chronically and degenerately going deaf, and perhaps the most painful asset at least for Beethoven, finding no love.
Aucune comparaison possible ! Beethoven c'est l'accomplissement ,et une symphonie de Beethoven c'est inclassable. Mozart restera ce qu'il fut : un génie mais le Maître incontesté : Beethoven ! This is undoubtedly a great recording of a masterpiece. But even in the most acoustically perfect concert hall, a live performance wouldn't sound like this. Elemental power, intensity and beauty that only Beethoven could create! Masterful and perfectly crafted; a force of nature!
The way Karajan gets this orchestra to speak is amazing. The orchestra almost seems to scream in anguish at some points. It's perfect
The expression on Beethoven's face in that bust suits this piece perfectly!

After listen this you can understand why Beethoven said: "Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosphy"
11 years late, but I agree with this, unlike philosophy, the revelation can be whatever you perceive when it comes to music
This really rings true, especially when hearing this piece.
Rumor has it that Beethoven wrote this in a single night. I believe it.
