New Junction EP14 - Heritage line bridges

  • In this episode at the modern image 'OO' gauge model railway layout New Junction, we continue to work on building the 4-track ECML mainline layout. Using a Wills bridge and girder kit as a base, the video shows you how to paint brickwork (in my own messy way) and further landscaping.
There may also be a few easter egg locos in the video! Ketlles kindly provided by ‪@johnjmc‬.

Seems I'm a bit late to the bridging party! Really glad to see none of the dreaded 'floating girders' you so often see, which for me at least really spoil what is otherwise often a well built and painted structure. I find a bit of variation in the girders helps somewhat with something like this, as in reality the different span lengths will dictate different girder profiles. The Wills girders are a fantastic resource, but because of how readily available and versatile they are, you do kind of end up with the same thing as everyone else in much the same way as using the Peco girders. Nothing wrong with that at all by the way, but for those not too phased by some kit bashing and looking for something different, have a look at the N Gauge Kestrel/Gaugemaster water tower kit. Perfect for making lighter built girders in 00 gauge of the sort which carry branches over small roads.

Hi Richard, thank you for another great video. Every time I look at the car bridge going under the heritage line, i think there should be a brick wall up to the main line with a steal girder at main line height. I would think there would be reinforcements for the main lines.
Anyway, I love your videos and thank you so much for making them. Can't wait for the next one.

Thanks for sharing, as always I enjoyed it. It’s good to see you doing scenic work again. I have to admit, sometimes on your videos, halfway thru, I’m like, no that’s not gonna work… but you pull it off. I should have more faith, I’ve done this repeatedly. It’s a credit to your willingness to show the process, not pick and choose what makes the process look best, but how it actually goes. Anyway, just ribbing you a bit too, and the layout is really shaping up now!!! All the best from us Yank’s over the pond.

Looks good. I usually use humbrol dust wash as the mortar when doing buildings, but I also don't tend to adjust the shade of the brickwork first...
I'm in the process of cataloguing all my rolling stock, now 80% of my 4mm fleet is in the same room as my computer. And I'm also touching up bits, like I painted the gangways on some mk3s while watching this.

Not been keeping up with TH-cam of late, so been catching up on your progress. It looks great so far, i think the changes you made following the first exhibition assembly look likely to be much better.
I noticed your revell glue without a nozzle, i presume it clogged up? Apparently a lighter can resolve that issue. However i switched to using tamiya thin and tamiya plastic glue in the little pots with a brush. Much better, especially the thin with the very fine brush.

Hi Richard! I have to say that wall effect is pretty decent mate! Looks awesome. Once it’s in situ and adorned with strategic streaks, damp patches and lumps-of-matter-beyond-the-scope-of-human-understanding that one typically finds in such places, that shot will look amazing. A sort of tunnel version of Three Bridges 😎
Like the look of what I assume is a pre-production 50 by the way. I was wondering what the two carriages behind it were though.🤔
Cheers mate, hope Lulu enjoyed her day off 😜🍀👍🍻
