Hi Daniel, its Matt and Momo here. You need to do the rest of our rooms please 😂 this is amazing!! ❤️🥰🔥 Thanks again for taking the time to put your amazing creative brain to a thing like this. The amount of time and effort to produce a video like this in such a short time is amazing. I didn't expect it so soon. You really didn't disappoint, really smart unique ideas, and the standout attention to detail that you provide, it really feels like these designs are very achievable! We love it! We will keep you updated on our progress, and hopefully you can eventually see the finished result in person! ☺️
Can you imagine if the U.K. government did this to encourage home ownership, instead if Airbnb investors, in more remote villages. Now that work from home is easier and more common, lots of people might leap at the chance to buy old houses in villages.
Hey Daniel i can't thank you enough, i have posted a commend about how you inspired me to become an arcitecth and also that you change my personality, i used to be a boy that just sat i my room all the time and in a clutterd room but after i found you're yt cannel, my life changed, i got better grades and also that im being more social. i'm only 14 years old but still you change everything about me. ❤ God bless you
Hi this is Momo. Thank you so much for your amazing design for the house! I really like this design and we'll definitely do it:) Seems not too difficult to make reality as well. We will send you photos when we are done! I really appreciate it. When you come to Japan, please stay in our house:) Thank you:)
This was so fun to watch the transformation seriously hope we get to see the other rooms transformed as well, cause watching the entire house transformed would be amazing😍
This design looks absolutely beautiful, and I love how you've paid attention to the multi-functionality of the space so well! I would love to see your ideas for the rest of the spaces in this house as well. It's nice to see projects with varying scale on your channel. The small spaces are what lured me in, but the variety keeps me coming back to admire your work.
Likewise with the Spanish-designed paper lantern. I think it was a solid aesthetic decision, looked lovely, but to bring in a European version of a classic japanese craft/form when I'm sure there'd be plenty quality and contemporary options on your doorstep seems odd.
Did you litteraly miss the part where he 1. Used japandi bc one of the couple isn't Japanese so it's about fusion of styles while respecting the predominantly Japanese heritage. 2. Huge part where he went over the cold winters and lack of isolation of these homes was discussed ? And you think ;" paper doors yeah great idea". If you think easthetics trumps not freezing... I guess go for it.
I would LOVE to see their finished product if they follow your design! Also, Love the design, my wife and I are falling in love with the Japandi style you lean into so well! thank you for letting us know what it was called!
love your work Mr. Titchener. Your excellent videos have made me a better designer, and more importantly, you've made interior design accessible and fun for so many. Keep up the great work!
Incredible transformation! I’m curious about one detail. Are barn doors proposed as final direction or more as a concept. Feels like traditional Japanese paper doors might be more appropriate here.
Daniel, you are really so thoughtful and so budget conscious, it's incredible - so many architects or designers are more interested in themselves than their clients - you bring so much care to what you do. and the results show it.
Really beautiful design! Did anyone transform their space following your redesign and shared with you? Would be interesting to see, especially because you calculate budget to the dot, consider every detail and make it seem so easy to implement...
I would like to see a solution for the insulation. You could do an air gapped mimic wall framing fabric or paper to use static air as insulation and the frame can mimic the traditional construction. Or you could do a full wall curtain. And if you want to minimize these changes only do the North wall since that is where most benefit is gained.
Hey man, can you design a 4x4 sprinter cargo van for travel , that includes murphy bed, full shower/bathroom, desk area for workspace/gaming, kitchen and storage ideas for holding e-bikes etc , love your concepts and would love to see your take on this
This is a lovely house, with good bones and character, so very happy to see it's still being valued as a home. Would love to get an update if/when the couple update their space. Perhaps it could be the start of a new series, where we can how people have updated their spaces after you've redesigned them...?
Amazing project! Daniel, right now there are some invisible sliding door hardware that are quite elegant and not so pricey and I think is worth checking on next projects for your minimalistic approach. This would have fit the room much better, since the barn doors hardware seems too clunky and it is the only thing out of line here for me.
I second this! I'm sure the insluation would take a big part of the budget (and maybe not look very exciting to design), but it would still be interesting to have an understanding of this house project as a whole.
I don't know if it will be insulated, maybe on the outside of the building. But there might be local building regulations that the owners need to adhere to. But it looks beautiful and like it will be a great multi purpose space, I especially liked the use of the sliding doors to open up the space. Pocket doors are a brilliant way to maximize your space
Lovely design. I would like to know where the homeowners would store many of the items we see in the "before" photos. The coats, for example, can't be put into the bench storage of the new design. How will they retain the look and feel of the new design without losing necessary storage for a family?
7:17 I don't see why not put the stove in the corner. It would be better for air circulation having it all the way to the corner with the extractor as well.
Beautiful transformation! And for some reason, “Japandi” cracks me up though I love the aesthetic. Some while ago I built an ottoman and used round ‘puff’ feet (think pork bun). Does IKEA offer this style? You might want to look at stacking these for the two seater instead of conventional legs . Ironically these would reflect the beautiful hanging light design. You do inspire us Daniel! Many thanks.
How much of the kitchen cabinetry was actually built in-house/DIY rather than fabricated or contractor installed? I find this part to be my favorite, since I'm a former cabinetmaker. Looking forward to designing out and building my kitchen setup. Just need to get the roof, walls, and floor finished first. lol
Hey Daniel, Greetings from Montréal!! Thanks a lot for your videos. They are so helpful and inspiring! I believe you have mentioned that before but I couldn't find the info. What are the software (other than sketchUp) do you use in your workflow to create those representations and renderings? Cheers,

If it weren't so difficult to get a visa as a Latin American in Japan, I would have left a long time ago. I work remotely and I can live wherever I want and a place like this feels perfect to me. It's nice that people take advantage of these opportunities
For how much emphasis there was on functionality, it's odd that the finished design removed all the shelf space in the kitchen and the closet near the entrance. Sure, this looks great if you're trying to capture stock photos for a design magazine, but how can anyone actually USE this house? Where do people put their jackets? Where do other appliances like the microwave go? A lot of thought was put into making the place uncluttered and functional, but the end result isn't practical at all.
4:55 I think you missed the part where he said that the kitchen island built is done with cabinets. It's a bit confusing because the picture shows 8 cabinets but he says 6 cabinets at 600x400mm, and if you're using bar stool seating as depicted which are higher than normal then it might be two layers of 6 cabinets (12 cabinets) for 1200x1200x1600 mm or 2.3 m^3 of storage space. That's plenty of storage space
@@RossHall-UK you are right. We are in the middle of winter and have coats there temporarily as we will put a coat closet in the genkan like you said. Everything is very messy 😂
you cant fix that without tearing the walls out and changing the entire build. a lot of japanese people just use window units to heat the room or using a kotatsu to warm themselves up.
@@123a-o5d external is probably the way to go. Most of the exterior is just cheap metal siding with similar mud walls within. It would be a slow wall by wall job, otherwise it's quite a substantial job and cost.

You buy a house to live in, so what you pay in mortgage is more like paying rent and at the end you get to keep the house. The land the house stands on makes up a large chunk of the value. We've had a few old houses our way bought, pulled down and new ones put up because it's more cost effective than trying to sell the old one. Our house was nearer to the top end of values because it had just been reformed (renovated), whereas one that's not been touched for 8+ years over the way is selling for about 80% of what we paid.
