- Hi Everyone, in this video il show you the process of how i made my N gauge layout for a N gauge Steam Loco.
This Loco didnt fit in with my collection so the only natural thing to do was to make a layout specifically for the train!
There will be a follow up video in the future so any ideas you may have that you feel could add to the layout please feel free to comment away and let me know

WOW. Absolutely fantastic!!!
Came for the show, stayed for the sick tunes.
I have a Dapol class 66 which would look amazing speeding around your amazing layout.
Haha it is a sick tune 👌😁... the 66 i think would struggle going around this layout as they are so long.. the layout is pretty much just made for this one loco 😂
A superb build, I wouldn't have thought such a interesting layout could be that small. I will definitely have a go at a similar build for my granddaughter.
Would love to see what your layout evolves into once your done 👍, if you do a video of of let me know, would love to see that 👍
amazing - really good work, i would of never thought those locos would make it up those steep graidents and turns, was impressed !
Very entertaining. Some people spend hundreds on spiffy helices - You use Lego! Once again, This Way Works!!
Lego and superglue! Dont forget the superglue! 🤣👍👍
I’m looking for ideas for my grandsons first train and building some scenery and I’m blown away by your work great job bro💪🏽✌🏽👍🏽
Thank you, yeah i was going to make some trees for this little layout but in the end i accidently bought some from the local model shop, hopefully the videos helped you out with building yours for your grandson 👍
videos like these always make me feel great
Instead of wood base and plastic "lego" coloumns I use XPS,(extrudated polystirone) that is very light and very stable, solid, easy to cut.
No one asked
Using wood, plaster is useles anymore.
Hi Philip here me and my girlfriend are doing my layout like your one but in 00 scale.ive got n scale.can you send me your track plan as finding it difficult to understand and see how you have dune it up over and under.
@@PhilipGreenhill-vh3sr you elevate the rails gradually, 3-4 cm/ m
@@bojohannesen4352just dont be like that
What a great little project. I'm planning a couple of scenic loco and stock storage boards for my display cabinet, which will allow me to trial landscaping and ballasting methods before tackling the main layout. For lighting I would probably only light the station with a dull old style lamp post. If you had another building in the middle or a path/track then there could be another nearby that.
This layout helped me work out some does and donts and was quite fun to build, i did find that too much clay will crack etc, totally agree the station needs a light/lamp 👍, was toying with the idea with lights on the bridge somehow, like the pathway with lights idea 👌
Brilliant! This would be a great layout to show off at the upcoming national N gauge show in Warwick.
Keep up the good work and great ideas 👍🚂
Thank you Alan, although i wont be showing the layout at Warwick im hoping to still go and have a look around at all the exhibits there 👍, who knows maybe next year i might have a stand👍
Marvellous, so inspirational, thank you...
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and dropping me the lovely comment👍 cheers 👍
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Chris. Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent work sir! 👏🏼
Thank you, it was fun to build 👍
Great job, cool little layout!
Thanks Pat, Thanks for watching the video👍
Great Video,
properly inspiring and great confidence using super glue!!
i've had "similar" success but a few "moments" when you realise (and the glue is dry!) its in the wrong place :(
the layouts you can achieve once you get passed "minimum radius" (in my case also using Kato chassis!) is great, currently working on a shelf layout 53/36 two loops and a hidden siding to swap rolling stock.
Thanks again for inspiring content.
Thank you, im glad you liked the video, theres alot of charm to making a small layout, give it a bit of time and im sure il make another one, maybe a different scale.. The Kato chassis's are brilliant arent they 👍
Great work !
Thanks, it was a fun little layout to make 👍
Very well done and I love it ! Been looking at an N scale set and like your compact layout style .
Thanks for watching, glad you like it 👍👍
Nice one mate especially the music cheers from Bruce.blenheim south island new Zealand
Thanks for watching Bruce, i do try and put that music in videos whenever i can 🤣
Music is great. Make sure you put a mouse trap in the tunnel otherwise they will decidimate your wood !. I watched through the numerous ads. and totally enjoyed your layout and presentation. Looking up N gauge products now. It's your fault !!!. 😂😂. All the best mate. Dave
Cheers Dave, I keep the layout inside, i hope there are no mouse in my house!! 🤣
Just a suggestion...put a nylon over your Hoover nozzle so you dont suck up excess static grass and waste it you can reuse it
i have also many of minitrack layouts. greetings
Absolutely brilliant wow, amazing.
I have just ordered my first n gauge kit, can you bend the track or is it a special track to bend? Also what is the glue called to glue the card at the beginning?
Thank you
The track is code 80 flexi track by Peco, it comes in about 1m lengths, i had some bits kicking about so put this layout together. The glue i used to stick pretty much everything together is just superglue, you can also get an activator which you can spray the superglue with to make it set almost instantly 👍
Hi Philip here.how did you manage to get your track to go round up over and under like you have dune it .let me know.and it's in n scale yes well Iam doing my railway layout similar in 00 scale but I've got n scale to and are you using flexi track
classic minitrix train
It would have been nice to see the whole operation from further back
Maybe move your computer to a larger room then?
Should have centered you fish plates
A wonderful build, do you have the video with wiring etc?
Hi,
Sorry no video with regards to wiring of any additional things yet, the only thing i wired here was the track. i only soldered two wires to the whole track. one wire was the LH rail and the RH rail was the other wire... both these wires go to my DC controller,
Both wires are out of sight under the hill section, i used USB multistrand cable but only used 2 wires from the cable,
Hopefully this helps?
Hi when you did your layout did you glue your Flexi n scale track down to the wood and how did you get it to stay like that.let me know
Yes the track was superglued to the supports. The white card i used to landscape the layout was also all superglued 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW hi right ok then thanks for letting me know as me and my girlfriend like your layout and are doing my railway layout similar to yours.
Hi what track are you using i have got my first train (bachmann plymouth 060) today but i have no track yet the plan is to build a little setup like yours
I just use code 80 flexi track by Peco, same as the setrack railwise👍, would love to see what you make, you'll have to upload a vid of it once its going 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW thanks i will try make some videos on building it aswell as the pwm controller
Hi what did you use to make the track go up over and under let me know
Building blocks, superglue and card 👍
Hi Philip here me and my girlfriend is doing my layout like yours but in 00 scale.i also have got n scale train and track.what do you think me doing my layout in 00 scale let me know
Very cool, what brand is the actual train, where can I get it?
It is a Minitrix steam train. They are quite old now but i suspect they can be found on good old ebay, thats where i got mine from 👍
Theres a few on ebay. Just like this one.. item number 204565108402
@@ThisWayWorksTWW great! Thanks for the info!
Trapin' on the island of sodor
Hi I see at the very beginning of the layout u use Lego bricks for the up over and under track work is that right let me know
Yeah the blocks stay in the layout, its all superglued together👍
How much flex track did you use
Pretty much 2.5m of peco code 80. Three lengths of flexitrack would be more than enough 👍
Backlight the trees for effect
Thats a great idea👍
I could imagine bachmanns new n gauge thomas percy, toby and perhaps james would work on this layout
I can test Percy as i have one, hes got a bit of Girth though, we shall see 🤔
@This Way Works honestly I'm gonna get a thomas at some point tbh, since I started venturing into n gauge I knew i wanted to get my hands on the bachmann n gauge thomas fleet
@@cdyvids22 i can vouch for Percy, hes a good runner, he is missing a face though at the moment which is how i came to owning him, maybe in a future video il make him a face and run him around the layout if hes not too wide 👍
Hi me and my girlfriend like your layout as we are doing my railway layout similar.what scale is it.let me know
It is N Gauge 👍
Hi right ok then thanks for letting me know.its nice
Hi Philip here me and my girlfriend are doing my railway layout similar to yours is that ok let me know.and did you use them Lego building bricks for it or not let me know
I used mega blocks which are just like the lego blocks but cheaper. Yeah make away, be good to see a video of yours once youve made it 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW hi well I've used my Lego bricks is that ok let me know.
@@philipgreenhill2782 Lego is fine, they are much the same thing 👍, you'll just have a fancier layout is all 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW hi and did you also use filler for filling in your up over and under the hills let me know as yours is looking nice it's in n scale yes.mine is in 00 scale but I've got n scale trains
@@philipgreenhill2782 its all made as in the video, i used plaster cast bandages and covered these in pva and brown paint mix
Hi me and my girlfriend like your layout as we are doing my railway layout similar let me know how you did it.
Hi im glad you like the layout, Heres a link to the 1hour video that shows how I built it 👍 th-cam.com/video/D3b2FeBfys8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oYH0quxo5u-gWpvc

@@ThisWayWorksTWW hi do you think I will be able to do my own railway layout similar to yours.i keep on trying to build my own railway layout in my own way but always get bit stuck although I've been with train layout for years now still get stuck let me know
@@philipgreenhill2782 this is the first layout i made so if i can make it im sure you can 👍, just make sure your trains run well on the track before doing all the scenic stuff 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW hi right ok then thanks for letting me know
Why no masking tape on the track?
With all the gluing, painting and weathering i find it less work to clean the inner and tops of the rails instead of masking them and working around the masking tape. The acrylic paint i used is quite easy to remove from the track 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWWi see, thanks for the fast reply. What do you use to get the paint off?
@@mlalbaitero normally 2000 grit wet and dry paper and isopropyl alcohol however alot of people are for or against using wet and dry paper and also isopropyl alcohol to clean their tracks, i find it works fantastic for me 👍
@@ThisWayWorksTWW I used to use isopropyl as well but then I switched to contact cleaner and found it works a little better, though isopropyl worked as well
@@mlalbaitero I havent experimented too much with trying different cleaning agents myself, doing 3d printing i mostly have alcohol at the ready most of the time however id be interested to see the difference ising electrical contact cleaner 👍
