The biggest issue I CONSISTENTLY see in lower level players is that they dont move with intention...like....EVER. They're not aware of their positioning or sightlines and 9 times out of 10 they just die and keep doing it. Its like a weird call of duty matchmaking mentality where the deaths don't matter, so long as you shoot things that's all that counts; its crazy
I know exactly what you mean and I’m guilty of that. With cod mw1 and cod waw. Just constant sprinting and throwing grenades and not playing the map or working as a team. Impatient plays and just running wide open instead of taking smarter routes etc. hence why I’m here searching for help on TH-cam tonight.
@@emericask822dang that was like 20 years ago. You probably have some very deep rooted bad habits that are making the game harder than it needs to be for you. It's never to late to improve so I applaud you for taking steps.
Not moving with intention, you are totally right. Once you have enough good habits you become a significantly more difficult kill because you can move... with intention from cover to cover to cover.
I think part of the problem is a lot of people don't play enough to have the correct positioning on every map engrained on a subconscious level. As a mid-diamond player who will go weeks without playing a single game I often find myself having to think too much in certain games in order to keep up with what's going on (hell, on half the maps I don't even know the Hill rotations). I'd imagine that a lot of other people run into that problem as well. At most levels there seems to be a wide discrepancy between different types of skill/game knowledge.
@@Epiousios18 Yeah there's just not a lot of good habit building going on...I don't even take the game that seriously or anything but just from my time playing other games it's already 2nd nature to me to have good positioning at all times, if not cover my teammates if they actually know what they're doing and make the plays work. I don't have the hills memorized or anything like that either, but there's just a big gap in fundies when it comes to getting out of plat and that whole umbrella that not a lot of players stop to think about I guess. Just kinda weird how a lot don't analyze themselves or think "what went wrong" or "what could I have done better" when that's like...one of the only things holding them back
Being of the same rank threshold, this is a reminder that there is all sorts of players in Plat lobbies. Folks with good shots and bad game sense, folks with bad shots but decent understanding of positioning, etc. And these lobbies often have nearly NO comms at all. Biggest thing I see is them not playing corners (both preaiming and cover) and not letting the fight come to to them while they focus on their positioning and holding space to help their teammates. A lot of these things can be corrected with practice and study. Playing with intention helps you long term as you develop better habits while still working on the grind.
This guy is my rank, and it's painful to think that i'm this bad. That's not even a jab at this guy, but a "reinforcement" of two important concepts: 1. Our minds will make tons of excuses for us, and make us think we are better than we are. 2. WATCH YOUR DAMN VODS. If you take yourself out of the moment, and give yourself a few seconds to think about your decisions, you will realize just how blind you are while the bullets are flying.
One thing I noticed a lot when I was Plat, and to be fair I did this too on occasion, was trying to outstrafe my opponent when I had the first shot in. I normally crouch strafe, but now, if I have the first shot on someone I do an extremely basic strafe and focus on my aim. I can't tell you how many times someone had 1 or 2 shots on me first, then started strafing like crazy because i was and he wanted to copy me, and ended up missing the next 3 and I killed him. Watching Formal you'll see he does this a lot if he has first shot in. Like sometimes he won't even move. Just aim.
I’m going to be honest here, and sometimes I am just too impulsive trying to push objectives and die instantly. Playing like Halo 3 but using slide to traverse on occasion made a world of difference for me. Can’t play like it’s a PvE mode.
It's easy to go double positive against slightly inferior players and thing that you played well. It's even easier to make excuses after going double negative against slightly stronger players to justify your poor performance. In reality you probably played about the same in both games. The weaker players just made more mistakes than you and didn't punish your mistakes. Against the stronger players you not only get punishd for your mistakes but they are making less mistakes than you while actively picking your team apart in an attempt to force you to make even more mistakes. I just see so many diamond/plat players that are 100% oblivious to their actual skill level and are incapable of change because they refuse to recognize their bad habits.
Biggest issue I’ve seen so far this season is that most of the people in the games I have played have no map awareness. Not playing angles, not trying to control power weapons, constantly flipping spawns in strongholds “trying to get an objective by taking an and going to c next.” And not using their teammates for help. Rushing out into 1v2 or 1v3 gunfights and dying really hurts the team. I’m about to make it out of plat 6 into diamond 1 this season. Finished in diamond 6 last season.
I'm a lower level player silver 2 in ranked. The thing that has helped me alot is just playing smart and having map awareness. I still need to get better with my aim an anticipation. Videos like this help so much learning the game I used to get so caught up in wanting to play like some pros style wise and completely discard playing smart and having map awareness. Thanks shyway for helping me level up💯.
These kinda of vids honestly help me quite a bit, so thanks Shy for continuing to make great content like this! I've been trying to improve on my map sense quite a bit, both with positioning and aim, and I think I've honestly gotten to a point where my PC and internet are moreso the reason I'm not getting quite as high a rank as I could be, since I average like 13 kills 14 deaths in Arena (which I could work on not dying more, I do sometimes just get carried away), and I still need to work on aim a bit, but all in all I try to take as much advice from the pros, and people like you to try and improve as much as I can, so again, to you, and everyone that does content like this, keep it up!
Another banger video !! I needed this after getting rolled a couple of times in mm on this map/mode. I tend to do well when playing very proactive on this map for sure
I love all your videos! Thank you for your content. I really appreciate your Metafy videos, as well. You mentioned two different sensitivities between hip fire and scoped in, I've ran into this same problem of being de-scoped and all the sudden your reticle flies off target. I've went into the settings and matched my hip fire and scope sensitivities to be exactly the same. This fix that issue where I would be discoved and fly off target.
Man I haven't played halo since 4. This feels like a completely different game. I had to come here because my aim is absolute trash and it was always great in previous titles. I thought it was my controller, but it seems like a lot of people are struggling with it
4:17 In halo you only need half your reticle on target in order to register a full hit. I keep forgetting this myself. Which is why players like Lucid delete players so fast. He barely moves his right stick once he’s on target. I don’t know if it works this way and other shooters but it does work this way in Halo.
Been playing infinite day one with m&k. I’ve tried to go back to controller for better accuracy but I feel so slow. Just started playing again this season and almost D6 already. Aim isn’t as good as controller but having the ability to flick the mouse and immediately 180 my FOV has gotten me a ton of kill. Still my favorite fps to play m&k
I’d like first of all to thank you Shyway for the vids with more focus on helping the community grow at all levels. I did message lucid a long time ago and asked about settings, I agree it is what works for personally. Some play 1 acc and high h and v, others try to maintain a speed that is slightly faster then the enemy can move ( without crap and duff man thrusting in the direction of the problem ). Then we have the swipe shots which need some understanding or luck. I’ve finally worked it out, I think but I haven’t been able to marry the triangle due to cross play desync etc. I’d like to hear to any thoughts on this concept. Three different inputs to aim assist right, four if we are being LanA?
I mostly play for fun when I have time. Solo. I still need to work on less right stick movement. There are times when I decide to not die rather than go for kills. It often leads to comeback wins for my team if I’m just patient. I’ve been getting better at sniping recently. Something I’ve always struggled with. I like the pistol a lot. That probably comes from when I did have more time to dedicate I was playing a lot of Halo 5 ranked FFA.
Hello, excellent content, I want to ask something: can a pro control with scuf be used in a competitive tournament? Thank you for your answer. Greetings from Chile.
Yeah the main thing that got me stuck in D5/6 (I solo queue) was having the mindset of always blaming team mates when I would lose games. Once I realized to only focus on myself and accept that I had zero control over my teammates, I started to rank up. Now I'm well into Onyx, pushing for 1600s still trying to better my gameplay everyday.

I'm diamond 6 after 6 months of halo infinite after not playing since the very beginning of reach. It's honestly insane how much (mostly) halo 3 transfers over to infinite... and I still make those kind of mistakes all the times. Sure I have bad games, but usually not that rough. Gotta at least peak the corner... especially if your going market VS C... Ive been beamed way to many times to just throw myself out like that anymore. Usually... 😂
Hey Shy 😁 I started hardcore training on this game about a month ago for about 4-5 hours a day and it started with your videos! I've learned so much from this stuff and went from being a gold 4 to a plat 6 solo queing. Ive hit a bit of a wall with making good plays on maps and once the player skill level gets to about diamond 3 I just get rolled. I dont really get to play with others too often and was wondering if there was a way for me to work on crouch strafing by myself or if someone in the comments had any ideas 😅 Ive always really loved halo and im determined to be better! thanks!
I guess that’s my biggest problem, is moving around the map with no purpose. I’m a decent Diamond player, usually have between 50-60% accuracy and win a good amount of my guns fight, but I am constantly just running around the map looking for kills and get randomly shot across the map or 3rd party. So maybe I need to work on being aware of what sight line im working with and helping out the team
Commented this on a year old video. This one is more recent. So my struggle is movement. I know that I can strafe in a variety of directions. When im in a gunfight, I panic and I forget to do it 😅. I also am emotionally involved. When I get killed at an odd angle, I get mad. Training myself to move on quickly and focused on the next encounter is more ideal.
That's definitely normal! Staying calm and intentional with everything you do under pressure is challenging and important to master! I don't have any specific videos on this, but if you're looking for advice i'd recommend working with me via coaching. Here's a link calendly.com/shyway Feel free to email me if you have questions @ alex.c.hope12@gmail.com
Shyway do you know how o can change my Bandit EVO reticle on Series X? On my Xbox One it’s a larger inner reticle (how I want it) but on my series X it’s the very small inner reticle
Im gonna sound like a right nubbin here. With aiming, i tend to always aim head height. I've been trying to break that habit and aim for chest until their cracked, then aim for the head. Should i not be trying to break that habit?
I'm a chest aimer. Upper chest mostly. I mean, if you can hit 5 headshots the game would simply be easier for you if you started aiming for the torso. If you jump into ranked matchmaking right now you are not going to make much if any progress if you're trying to change your habits. I recommend putting on some music, shooting some bots with the ONLY goal being to aim for center mass.
I'm a guy that plays a few hours a day, so I'm always stuck in Gold or something ha ha, but this video shows you can have proportional trouble at any level - all in context. I wish I could suck at plat ha ha
My biggest struggle is having the reticle at head level before getting into a gun fight. It’s hard for me to predict the head level of the enemy at different distances and on different terrains.
@@MsHyphyone for sure! I think having a good understanding of where your teammates are and what THEY can see, can help narrow down where you anticipate the enemies to be and what the highest priority angle to focus on is in the moment. It’s tricky though - I’ve got a video coming out later today that might help you 👍
@@brandontreadway9814this game was a statistical outlier for this player. Impossible to know what state they were in mentally when they played - this could just be an off game/bad moment in their gameplay. But I felt that regardless, there was valuable, teachable moments here 🤷♂️
@@Shywaydefinitely! The video is great. I was just surprised that was the rank with some of the aiming and positioning mistakes. Regardless, love these videos. Keep em coming, Shy!
Yea i dont know. I play much better than this but afyer my initial 5 ranked games i got pegged as mid gold. I just stick to social modes at this point cuz thats what i find most fun. Ill probably have anothwr ranked phase again soon though😂😂.
The whole not using right stick to aim messes with me so much. I used to be solid between 3 and reach, I stopped playing between 4 and 5 so now i suck and cant aim because right stick is just instinct.
Biggest problem I notice with a majority of low diamond players is big one NO CALL OUTS need call outs for better teamwork in Halo . 2 is when there shooting is they snap there right thumb stick and shots become shaky and over correct their shots . And 3 they are predictable and have a hard time understanding how a map should be played based on the game type
This guy had very twitchy aim and was always looking for that fight when being one shot or low shield . It was insane how he changed 3 guys bottom mid and got erased. Reticule placement for sure, don’t over challenge and get shields back especially in random matchmaking. Also everyone usually should never be looking all the same way
Dropping down to truck annoyed the most. Not only was it a weak play with little upside in a best case scenario but he couldn't be bothered to even pretend to use the truck as cover. The truck in that scenario is your only real lifeline making it invaluable. No hate to the player, we've all been there at one point.
I’m quitting after this last update. I did all the settings videos got to the point aiming didn’t feel completely awful made it to plat 4 and now I’m low gold after an “update”. I’m not going to keep messing with and fighting the settings menu.
My only problem is I'm a lonewolf vs 4 man squads that singles me out jumps me and then picks off the NPCs until I respawn. So I find myself playing support and flanking a lot, all while slaying and avoiding challenging. I've been Onyx before as a lonewolf, but now it's like I can't backpack my team to get the W because I'll have 39 kills 5 deaths 18 assists and still lose 49-50 because I can't control my random teammates from running out in the open to chall overshield rockets with a melee.
This might sound dumb, but did you change your match making setting from expanded to local? I didn't for ages as I assumed surely it would prioritise local games... I was wrong.
I’ve struggled with having good aim and map awareness. My Elims and deaths are always the same number whether it’s 10/10 or 1/1. I love halo and want to get better. But I’m on console because my pc won’t work on halo anymore because it doesn’t display the screen. If someone has a solution for the pc issue please reach out. Edit. I can play on pc now but I still struggle on controller. Any advice
Not sure if I've got the credentials to really make this criticism but I did notice that they're doing a lot of crouch spamming in their strafing which can really be good. Then again on the other hand I can't tell you how many people have done that to me and I've slammed them since they aren't really moving they're just bobbing up and down. Definitely gotta remember to use your left and right and not just crouch a bunch and jump - it's something I myself am constantly trying to get right in my own strafing
I’m at Diamond 1 and it’s both great and terrible at times. A lot of people can shoot decent but it’s exactly what you talk about that separates the big wins. I notice a ton of cramming together and getting pinched a lot around this ranked. Skill is there but map awareness is a crap shot.
Stop using your right stick to aim. For the most part players have set movement values, no one is going to suddenly do absolutely nutty movement, unless your in high onyx. So practice locking on to your target and using your movement to keep on target. If yiu do this you should see more success in gun fights.
Is it easier to get perfect aim with the fps unlocked or locked? I seem to hit literally nothing when its OFF/Unlocked. But, then again I get like 70fps on a 60hz screen.
The issue is you’re playing on a 60hz screen. In order to take advantage of anything above 60fps, you’d want a gaming monitor at 144hz or 240hz - ..although actually if the max fps you get is 70, maybe not worth it, might as well lock at 60 😅
I got a nitro 17 a few weeks ago because it finally had a 13th gen 40 series 1tb build for under $999 and was super excited for it and when I opened it I realized it was in 1440p. that's why it was so cheap. Why on earth would you budget build a 4060 and give it a 2k monitor. lol. I was so dumbfounded I returned it. But, it was amazingly better than my current 1050ti hahaha@@Shyway
Playing this game with a controller is just a nightmare. It’s so disappointing they provide practically no aim assist for controller players. Pretty much ruins it. I guess I’ll stick with MCC Halo 3.
Looks like he's on default FOV and his sens is pretty slow. Also he's scoping in far too much. I always take away a lot of knowledge from these recaps. Thanks a lot, Shy.

Usually... 😂

god we love the halo jazz ODST man, better days
Thanks bro wow
nice video! may i whats the title of the jazz music at the intro?
Hey Shy 😁 I started hardcore training on this game about a month ago for about 4-5 hours a day and it started with your videos! I've learned so much from this stuff and went from being a gold 4 to a plat 6 solo queing. Ive hit a bit of a wall with making good plays on maps and once the player skill level gets to about diamond 3 I just get rolled. I dont really get to play with others too often and was wondering if there was a way for me to work on crouch strafing by myself or if someone in the comments had any ideas 😅 Ive always really loved halo and im determined to be better! thanks!
Hey bro love your vids how do you get your FPS so high on Xbox ? Thanks man
I’m on pc! Highest fps you can get on Xbox is 120 - if you have a series S or X
Here's a link calendly.com/shyway
Feel free to email me if you have questions @ alex.c.hope12@gmail.com
i could be wrong on this but didnt formal introduce the term the blender to halo?
Shyway do you know how o can change my Bandit EVO reticle on Series X?
On my Xbox One it’s a larger inner reticle (how I want it) but on my series X it’s the very small inner reticle
I got some bookmarked ranked games i could use a look at? You doing offers?
my dude shy been working out his chest.
I think everyone should play at high FOV, when the targets are smaller, you are less apt to right stick aim in my humble opinion.
78 FOV 60FPS GANG.
100 fov, 120fps
Rank?@@Mikey_Storm
@@doransponsel4813 ......Halo 5. 🥲
Must you know the spawn points on every map to be able to benefit from spawn knowledge or is a general understanding enough
i love this map, so glad they brought it back.. i still call out by the halo 5 names.. lol
You don't sound like whatever a right nubbin is btw.
Great breakdown, if you are interested in some MNK gameplay to make another one, let me know
I'm a guy that plays a few hours a day, so I'm always stuck in Gold or something ha ha, but this video shows you can have proportional trouble at any level - all in context.
It’s tricky though -
I’ve got a video coming out later today that might help you 👍
This clip of gameplay wouldn’t suggest a high plat / low diamond player. It is a small sample size to be fair.
Yeah this looks like mid-high Gold play tbh. Maybe he's partied up with high plat/low diamond but from what we see here I don't buy it.
@@brandontreadway9814looks more like high silver gameplay to me. Thatsbjust me tho lol
7:53 if we're taking this fight, we're taking it from behind.... Heh heh
The whole not using right stick to aim messes with me so much. I used to be solid between 3 and reach, I stopped playing between 4 and 5 so now i suck and cant aim because right stick is just instinct.
sharing this with my duo lol
You are a real one for that.
I have 2k hours on counter strike and recently started playing halo I got placed in plat 1. Getting by okay based off my aim having fun.
I plan on singing up for coaching but want to get my pc first. Can someone tell me a CPU GPU combo to get high FPS at 1080p? THANKS
I aim w my right stick a lot and I’m onyx., I guess I got good at it. But I agree ls aiming is necessary most battles
The jazz is comedy lol
i've learned more valuable halo information from you than any other halotuber. shame i can't find any matches in ranked without getting 130+ ping :(
This might sound dumb, but did you change your match making setting from expanded to local?
I didn't for ages as I assumed surely it would prioritise local games... I was wrong.
had to pause at 1:37 and rewatch the clip because i got lost in the music
they changed the spawns a few days ago?
Just like the AI at the beginning of the game.
“Hey, winning strategy, don’t miss”

I noticed you had your Instagram at the end of the video, followed you, but you haven't posted since 2022! Should post more on there
Ideally
I’m at Diamond 1 and it’s both great and terrible at times. A lot of people can shoot decent but it’s exactly what you talk about that separates the big wins. I notice a ton of cramming together and getting pinched a lot around this ranked. Skill is there but map awareness is a crap shot.
My issue is how in the world when somebody shooting me. My aim goes all over the place and if I’m shooting them and they’re just continue to shoot me.
Stop using your right stick to aim. For the most part players have set movement values, no one is going to suddenly do absolutely nutty movement, unless your in high onyx. So practice locking on to your target and using your movement to keep on target. If yiu do this you should see more success in gun fights.
Gosh i hope the next season update gets people to stay
so if on pc its better to play w console ?
Do a close combat video. That would be interesting.
I don't know if having the cammo is important. But making sure they don't have it is.
But, it was amazingly better than my current 1050ti hahaha@@Shyway
it is tragic that they didn’t make this map look like its call-outs. so hard having never played h5
The awareness just doesn't seem to be there in diamond ranks. I swear i always get teammates who are horrible when it comes to situational awareness.
Thank you for the video. Hate the jazz though. I don’t know why but I literally hate jazz so much.
Np, that's actually my FOV (102) and weapon offsets
@@Shyway Good to know, thanks man
