The Man he is impersonating is Boris Karloff. Boris played the Frankenstein Monster in the first three Frankenstein Films. He is also known for being the narrator and the voice of the Grinch in the Grinch that stole Christmas.
This was from American Bandstand a long running television show that had teenagers dancing to poplar songs of the day. The host Dick Clark was having some banter at the beginning with a long time “regular” dancer whose name was Famous Hooks. He was very poplar and good dancer on the show from mid sixties thru early seventies.
I was born in 1962, so I grew up hearing this song. Thank you for your great reaction! I love it when a song makes you giddy. You two are so cute today. Happy Halloween and God Bless!🎃🐢🇺🇸
I'm 69 years old , the son of immigrant parents from Britain and my 2 best friends growing up parents were immigrants from Transylvania which everyone as kids thought was totally cool .
More vampire songs to add by Blue Oyster Cult, I Love the Night, Tattoo Vampire, Nosferatu ( there is a 1922 German silent film based 9n the same story)
"novelty songs" were really popular in the 50s, 60s and 70s. it's too bad that form of music is fading away. weird al yankovic is about the only person still putting out comedy songs.

I think I was 10 when Bobby Pickett was on American Bandstand. Now my favorite Monster Mash cover is by Geoff Castellucci of VoicePlay.
5:29 That's a reference to Boris Karloff, a famous actor who starred in horror movies starting with "Frankenstein" in the 1930's.
I was 10 years old when this came out and it immediately became my favorite Halloween song. So much fun to hear this again. Thanks guys. Peace✌
I was 10 too and agree with you. This flooded the AM radio waves.
My friend had this record when I was a kid, he used to blast it out on repeat on his old wardrobe-sized radiogram.
Bobby (Boris) Pickett made a living out of impersonating Boris Karloff, but you really have to know the early Horror films of the 30/40/50's
His facial expressions only add to the song, which is good one it's own, Hahaha.
I lived in the 60's..And loved the monster Mash..We did the Mash Potato while doing monster type moves..LOL !!!
I’ve heard this many times but never live. 😂😂😂😂 I love it ❤
The show at that time was LIVE but Bobby Pickett "MIMED" the actual master recording of the song, which he recorded in May Of '62 i believe
@@leroywood8410 It was still fun to see his facial expression. It’s crazy how many things were lip sync or mimed that long ago.
I have loved this song since I was in highschool but never saw the original version. So wonderful to see it with you guys for the first time
great thing is this song still going strong after all these years
I LOVE THIS ONE LOL!!!
Such a great song and performance.
Haha ... I think I remember this being on a record my parents would play during Halloween 🎃 I haven't seen the video! Great reaction!

i'd like to see BOTH of you make these silly faces !!
🤪😁
Let's not forget Monster Hash by the toyes😮with slightly different lyrics!
You can't have Halloween without The Monster Mash. This was from 1962.
This is a dance 😂
Those were the days even back in the sixties this came out on Halloween especially I mean come on it's Halloween song.
I wonder if Mr. Karloff saw this performance and if he did, what he thought about it,probably would have found it amusing 🤔
I could be wrong but I've heard this song was banned in Australia when it first came out.
I think this clip was from October, 1964............Bobby Pickett recorded this in '62

Boris Karloff would of smashed this monster mash
You should try Jackie Morningstar's song Rockin' in the Graveyard
