    Just re watched your Twin Birds, thanks for the ‘gets your borders right’ advice. I re stitched one of mine today. Hope to actually get round to finishing mine soon. Yours is gorgeous, love the extra colour.

      It’s really worth doing the finish after stitching all those parts!

    I love your "class on 1974" label - and how much you love that piece. I'm sorry to hear things have been tough lately, though, and hope there will be change in that for you soon. There was a period when I used paper plates because I just couldn't do any more washing up. I have not a single regret about doing what I needed to get past that.

      Thank you. A friend once gave me a dozen paper plates for Christmas which was brilliant. So I am counting it as a gift to myself.

    Hey Ros, I hope the sun shines again for you soon. Sabbatical sounds like heaven. I laughed when you're thinky thoughts were about all the love for Dimension kits we're seeing these days. I don't understand it either. Like you, they were the reason I stopped stitching back in the day. When I started again around 2017, I was amazed by what I found, something for everyone. My return to cross stitch was a gecko rouge. 🎉 I'll probably never stitch a fancy lady or a chatelaine but I appreciate the work involved. Dimensions tho? Never again. 😯

      I do have a tiny chatelaine pattern (not kit) of highland cows and sheep that I hope to stitch one day. I love my Gecko Rouge too!

    Hi Ros, love your finish of the twin birds:) that border is HARD and is why stitching the bottom of mine is not happening at the mo... Sorry to hear things have been tough, life is so much at times, well done on letting yourself rest and make sure to be kind to yourself at all times. X

      The border is deceptively hard! And thank you.

    I only watched this today so you must have thought I was a bit mad over the weekend. Loved the "thinky thoughts" and after our conversation at the weekend I'm sure you know I couldn't agree more!

    Love the bird finish … and the change of colours. I must start mine.
    Sorry life is hard … not easy when everything piles on at once xx. If some of it still seems HRT then I did have to go up a couple of levels over the months. And I use reminders on my phone! Or I would have missed today.
    Disaster on the spill … relieved it seems mostly recovered.
    Take care and rest up. Stitching definitely helps x

      Yes, I've just booked an appointment to review the HRT. I think it's been more to do with external circumstances all getting too much in the last couple of weeks.

    Sorry, I've been on a flosstube break due to work/study/flosstube oversaturation and this afternoon I decided to crochet and binge watch your videos. I'm going in order and still way behind but enjoying myself.
    First of all, just wanted to say I'm so sorry I didn't know you were not feeling well physically and mentally, I should have reached out to you earlier but I hope that you are doing better now! It's awful to not be well and not have anyone to help you out with small things like washing the dishes. Glad you have the dog though to take you out for a walk! :)
    Secondly, very interesting thinky thoughts about different tastes in cross stitch. As you may know I like to try all sorts of things and it really depends on my mood what I like to stitch. I often try things and then realise they don't really work for me for various reasons but it's a bit of a process of exploration which is also fun in a way. Many stitchers I follow call themselves 'process stitchers' and I'm starting to identify more and more with them as I'm finding that it matters less to me what I will do with the final product than the fun of making it in the first place. I can't imagine I will ever have a house large enough to display all the things I make and nor do I think that they would all go together. There are projects or crafts I just want to have a go at or enjoy seeing come to life that I don't necessarily see myself ever put up on my wall but I still enjoy working on them. I guess my point is that maybe not everybody necessarily thinks so in depth about the final destination for their crafty projects but more enjoys the process of making them and being part of the community by stitching things similar to what maybe people they follow stitch, participate in stitchalongs and such. And through trying different things you may find out that you enjoy something you didn't think you would (or that you don't enjoy something you thought you would...) and you may discover something new about yourself. Just my thinky thoughts on this.
    PS. I really enjoy your mini webinars on various topics, from physics to Northern Ireland, you're a very educational craftinh channel!

      Hi, Natalia! No apologies needed. I know you’ve had a lot on your plate as well. Yes, that’s a really good point about process stitching. I do enjoy the process, but for me the product is always the main point.

    I understand completely about having a piece on your wall. I have to love the piece to be able to stitch it. I have to want it on my wall or wherever to display it; to be able just to buy it. I’m definitely not a sampler stitch or things with a lot of words/versus on it. I can appreciate them, I see the skill and beauty in them but I don’t need/want them on my wall either. Not my style. I hope things lighten up for you soon. Get good sleep, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Take care and stitch when you can. 🧵🪡

      @RosClarkeCraft  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I don’t mind a sampler, but I don’t really get the obsession with stitching sampler after sampler when they are all so similar.

    Well Ros…I never would have pegged you as a Mills and Boon gal. I’ve never read one..maybe I’m missing out. When I started stitching, I only did Christmas stuff…I couldn’t imaging why anyone would want that type of tat out all year round. 😂😂🤦🏼‍♀️

    Hi Ros, love your finish and your colorpallet on the twin birds. Sorry to hear your are not feeling well. Hope it will soon turn better for you. Love your video's and toughts. English is not my native language so i can't express myself enough but I understand what you meen. For me it's important to have joy in what I stitch and I try different sorts of patterns and so I find what i really like and what I don't like. But troughout the time, the years, my tast chances. Because luckely there are so many new desingers and use for colors or , for instance black (longdog samplers) . It 's always good to do what you like and search your thoughts and feelings. Take good care Ros🌷🍀

      Thank you for your thoughts. I agree that taste changes, and sometimes when we find new designers we find that we love things we didn’t think were our taste!

    So sorry life is difficult for you at the moment. One of my children went through a disposable plate and crockery time. I guess it happens to more of us than we might imagine.

    I enjoyed your reflections on what people like. My tastes do change. I am influenced by what other people are doing. I feel chagrined by that, but I know it's true. Also, I like the companionability of SALs apart from whatever is being stitched. At this point, maybe I like a little bit of absolutely everything. Name any style, and I can find something I will absolutely love. At least, I can't think of any exception.
    The people who do only samplers are the most mystifying to me, along with the people who do only cutesy-wootsy things. But there are samplers I love, and I can find cutesy things to enjoy. I don't understand stitching the alphabet over and over or why a block house with a giant something on top of it is appealing to do over and over. But I do enjoy some elaborate fonts and some of the wacky houses. I guess it's the "over and over" aspect that puzzles me. The people who DID the samplers centuries ago weren't doing them over and over until they died. No one had a whole wall of them. Why is that a past-time for many now? I don't know. I guess they aren't drawn to the other things, but that's wild to me.
    So, I haven't done a sampler, but I could. I haven't done a Mirabilia or any fancy lady/mermaid/angel, but I could. I haven't done a Chatelaine, but that's only because ordering one intimidated me. I've never beaded a cross-stitch, but I would now.
    I've always loved watching how the depth given to a piece by detailed confetti develops and how backstitching can transform. It surprises me how many people have trepidation for those strategies.
    I've never done a Dimensions, but I love a landscape or a botanical. And I equally love a simple stitched border on a tea towel, finished off with crochet. I think I was born a granny.

      I find the sampler stitching a bit incomprehensible too. I have stitched a sampler and have another in progress, but I don’t need fifty of them!

    I'm sorry it's been a rough couple of months. I hope the sabbatical gives you a bit of time to heal.
    One particular style that I can admire in other people's work but never feel inspired to stitch myself is the 'scribbly pencil and pastels / watercolour wash, but cross stitch' end of things. Some of the designs are lovely, but they just don't speak to me.

    • @RosClarkeCraft
      @RosClarkeCraft  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. Yes, I know exactly the style you mean. To me, it really doesn’t play to the strengths of cross stitch. I would rather paint/draw it.
