  • Machining some 6061 Linear Guide Bearings with our new Walter Valenite 1.00" 2 flute cutter with aluminum specific inserts. We've optimized the tool path by increasing the profiling feed rate from 170 IPM to 360 IPM .462" DOC, .125" WOC.
    The slot thru the middle is still the same as before, 12,000 RPM 140 IPM 1.00" WOC .382" DOC.
    Needless to say, very happy with the results, and still have the room to push it more if need be. This tool will definitely pay for itself in short order. A very good investment if you ask me!

    I love how quickly you get around the periphery now, MUCH better. And it really sounds great!

    Try putting a G187P1 at the beginning of your roughing tool, it will get rid of any hesitation when going around corners then put a G187P2 at the end of that tool.
    P1= rough
    P2= medium
    P3= finish
    I've saved 20 seconds a part with just inputting that code.

      bmp1785 Actually if you put a G187 with no P value it will default to the parameter setting (usually P2 unless otherwise modified). Adding an E value will tell the control how closely to conform to the programmed toolpath. IE G187 P1 E.005 will keep it within five thou of the programmed toolpath and increase the acceleration considerably. Good rule of thumb is to leave at least twice your E value for finishing or semi-finishing. But Russ knows what he's doing so we should leave him to it ;-)

    nice...I see the cutter is made for 90º profiling but was wondering what is the insert shape?

      That is Walters M2131 mill. Takes a ZDGT15 size insert. Great job cutting your cycle down!
