That's dumb, i have about 11 raccoons that i feed fresh leftovers I punctually pick from fast food restaurants around my area, never in the shape of hot dogs, as they associate hot dogs with human fingers, I wear rubber gloves when I feed them and have had them lick my hands, I gess in gratitude, but to give them an idea that food comes in finger shapes is stupid, start immediately to erase that trait by feed them FOOD SCRAPS, FOOD SCRAPS, darn it, or if you can afford it, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I also let their offsprings play with my kittens and dogs and the bond and trust us incredible, they don't fight, but if an unknown pet gets close, they all stay clise until trust us established and the strays actually trust the large group and interact with them
Bless your heart, sir. I have fed up to 10 before and now have around 4 a night I feed them a cheap cat food from Walmart and they get cookies and peanuts after the main meal. They are friendly as can be. They are free to come and go as they please. Thank you for having a kind heart. Love it!

People get so afraid because of the possibility of rabies infecting their pets but no one takes care of these poor guys who spend all of their nights not knowing if they'll eat, or stay warm. I guess I sorta saved 3 babies who I had been feeding with their mom, and then she never came back... Can't save every animals but it's nice to do a bit when you can

You remind me of when we had a raccoon family visit our house: A mom (Edna), dad (Phil) and two kids(Yogi and Boo Boo). They were all just about as tame as our cats and would eat trail mix right out of my hand. The best part was that Phil would routinely take food and then give it to Yogi and Boo Boo. Phil and Edna have since moved on, but Yogi and Boo Boo still visit every night.
My aunt's raised one is birth..and she wouldn't let no one get near but them she lived 15 yrs...I love what you said and did and still doing God bless you and your family a very happy story thankful for your help love and Care... thanks you so much

Most people don't do it, cause they're not suppose to. Any wildlife you feed will rely on you for it in the future and that's not good, since animals don't need humans to feed them to survive and it can be dangerous for you if you do.

Fun fact, raccoons don't have good distance vision but they have excellent night vision. I have ONE raccoon who visits me nightly and I feed her. She is very friendly but I keep my distance. This blows me away. You are so kind to critters.

The raccoons used to come around my place like this until 1995, then a rabies epidemic wiped them out. Three years ago I rescued a baby raccoon. He comes around here at least once a week now, but he's the only one.
