For anyone with an older camera (like the SL1 that I have), I had to download an older version of EOS Utility. Version 3+ would not recognize my camera, version 2 would. Once you have version 2 installed, the steps to load picture styles are slightly different. Connect your camera, load EOS Utility, then do this: click "Camera settings/Remote shooting." A menu will come up, click the camera icon, under it you will see "shooting menu" with a few settings and options. One of the options is "Register User Defined style." Click that and load the picture style file.
Thankyou Thomas! I’ve had my G7X mkII stashed away in the cupboard for YEARS. Today randomly discovered how popular they’ve become and then found your channel. Look forward to trying these settings and getting back into photography again.
Great to hear! For the G7X series there's another software for loading the files on your camera than EOS utility. I believe it’s called "picture style registration software "
Thank you for this. I recently sold my Fujifilm and got sad because I miss it. I ended up getting a Canon M50 cause it’s cheaper so it’s nice that I can get Fujifilm recipes on the Canon M50.
I know it’s been a year, but I am currently fighting myself from purchasing a X-T3 or any Fuji camera solely for Fuji film recipes. I have a m50 as well. How was your experience using these picture styles compared to experience with Fuji film recipes?
Appreciating the beauty in these picture profiles, When shooting in RAW format, how do these profiles affect the image capture process and post-processing workflow?
Thanks, they can not be applied to raws. It's more about getting a creative look straight out of camera and what you see on your screen or evf is what you get. In this regard similar to shooting film and maybe do some very small adjustments in post to the jpgs.A different type of shooting experience.
Hi Thomas! Thank you so much for making and sharing these film simulations! I am really enjoying using them! This may have already been addressed elsewhere, but the simulations do work on video for the R8, they just need to be loaded using the Canon EOS Utility software but turning the camera on in video mode in addition to stills mode. Hope that makes sense!
One tip, for those that doesnt have the cable for connecting the camera to your pc, you can always use the wifi feature (assuming your camera does have wifi feature) from your camera to connect to ur pc and basically follow the same steps after that
Hey Mr. Thomas eos utility is not working for me because they don't have a new system for my laptop. Can you tell me what the settings are for the styles so I can enter it manually.
That's too bad. Sadly the profiles are a bit more complex than just the available settings in camera. I wish you good luck and hope there will be a working eos utility for you soon. A quick tip, check on Canons sites in North America, Canada and US. They're sometimes a bit earlier.
Did all, but the OK button is greyed out and I can’t save the preset. Also there’s only three options that can be saved there at a time, is that correct?
Wow! I went deep down in the EOS-M + Magic L well, but I found it very buggy! With your software I can get the same result with my R5! Thanks a lot! Tack Thomas! 🙂
I managed to get it on my Canon RP and it's working. Since I've discovered this late in the night, I couldn't test much inside the house. I'm looking forward to try these on real life situations! I'm so excited! Thank you so much 👏🏼
Hi Thomas. Thank you for the info. Do you mind sharing with me the full link for your Film Simulations for Canon, as the tinyurl doesn't open for some reason.
Thankyou for the presets Thomas! Really Appreciate it! I started downloading more profile from your page and I wondered, can I add more than 3 profiles in a cameras? or the maximum is only 3 profiles? once again thankyou Thomas!
Yes sir, if you install Canons RAW editing program. I belive it's called Digital Professional you will be able to add the the picture styles to your RAW photos afterwards.
Doesn´t work for Canon 100D (SL1). It seems that cameras which are only controlable via Canon Utilities Version 2 are not compatible with .pf3 files as I always get a "file version error" when I try to load the style.
That could be the case even if I've gotten confirmations in the comment sections on a few videos from SL1 users. So there seems to be some way to make it work.
This is a great video!! I am having some trouble however. I am not finding my camera (Canon EOS rebel XTI), which is 16 years old, and you mentioned that if it is not on the list and NEWER than some cameras mentioned then those might work...I do not know the ages of the cameras you have mentioned, and my camera is fairly old. Do you have any recommendations for software for this camera?
Try another cable if possible. Some cables are only for charging and not data transfer. This might solve that issue. According to Canon 2015 would be the year when cameras got support for pf3 files. Google your camera model + "release date" this will give you a clue
Sorry about that, I know there's some other profiles out there based on an older pf2 rather than pf3 format for older cameras. Not sure about the procedure of getting them onto your camera if the eos utility software isn't an option
Hi!! I’m having trouble finding the picture style downloaded in the Camera. I can see the name of the file on the EOS Utility Software as if it worked, but once I try to find it on the camera (m200) , it doesn’t appear as an option…. I was wondering if you could help me with that. Thank you very much
Hey Thomas! I tried to install the CrowdakV3 but WinRAR isn't able to extract the file because "the archive is either in unknown format or damaged", I extracted the filmic picture styles to see if it was an issue on my end but I was able to get it. Let me know if you're having similar issues, thank you!
Hi, no that's not something I've experienced. Then again, I think Crowdak isn't compressed, it's only one file so you're grabbing the pf3 file straight from the page.
@@thomasfransson thank you for your reply! Doesn’t seem to let me select this model when downloading the canon utility software - not sure if there is another way to add to the camera? Thank you
@@allthingsdom13 hi! I tried this on my G9X mark ii and it worked. I just had to register the picture styles through picture style file registration tool instead of the eos utility
I try to add multiple different styles that I purchased but the folders only allows one at a time. If I upload one in the folder and then try to upload the next one, it removes the previous one. Am I doing something wrong? My User Def 1 has the default picture styles that came with my camera and I can add 1 new one, but if I try to add another one after that, the previous one is gone. This happens as well in the User Def 2 and 3 folders as well. I have a canon R5
You can only load one profile at a time - select one of the user defined slots on your camera through EOS Utility - browse to the profile you want to load and click ok. You have to confirm and return to the main page and repeat the navigation in EOS Utility and load them one by one to each slot. And make sure to have the camera in photo mode. There's plenty of R5 users that are using these profiles so it should work unless you've encountered some sort of bug with your R5 or the version of EOS Utility you're using. It might be worth trying another EOS utility from another location on Canons websites. I'm based in Sweden but I use EOS Utility that I downloaded from Canon Asia - as the european version didn't work... That and make sure you complete the loading of the profile - before loading the next one. If that doesn't work I'd contact Canon user support and report the issue as I've gotten confirmations from at least 10-15 R5 shooters that use these profiles. But I hope this information will help you get this resolved.
If you've extracted the files so you're trying to load files that ends with .pf3 and it won't let you ok/confirm it might not be supported by that camera model. Most of my videos on film simulations has a list in the description of user confirmed models.
Hi, Thomas thanks so much for your picture styles and your videos. I have a question please. I shoot in raw + jpeg using pictures styles. Once I import the pictures in Lightroom will I loose the settings and the colours of the picture styles? How to prevent this happening? thx a lot ❤
Hi Thomas. Thank you for your incredible work and contribution to the Canon community. When I upload your files to the photo registration profile, the "OK" button is not available for me to confirm, so I can't upload them to the camera. Any idea what could be wrong?
Starting with the most common problem people run into - Not uncompressing the downloaded file before trying to load the profiles to their cameras... The files each downloaded file contains 2 or more files ending with. Pf3 Those are the actual film simulations. But since you just watched the tutorial on that. My next guess would be - According to Google the m200 was released 2019 so it should be able to accept pf3 files. Some have had issues with profiles based on the native "fine detail picture style" as it's not supported by all camera models. That could be the reason. From what I recall it's profiles in the California Cowboy pack that use this as a base. I've also seen eos M users doing some type of workaround when loading these types of profiles on their cameras. I can't recall the procedure, but I've seen it and maybe even pinned a comment on this on one of my previous videos regarding these profiles and the m-series cameras. Scim through the comments and you'll stumble across that workaround. Good luck
Hey if you’re still struggling with this, make sure that when you have your camera connected to your laptop/pc that it’s in manual mode. Hope that helps
Not to mention you’re using some outdated formats I even tried to go through your website to download it. It looks like you’re using some sort of old windows system you need to update your information for Mac users. Also, I tried to download it through the link on Canon you provided and you can download it but it just keeps downloading as a file and there’s no way to transfer it to your camera. This shouldn’t be that hard it should be very easy especially if Canon making this application not really sure, what you’re advertising here but it’s Janky.. Plus, you should be able to also just upload it onto an SD card like you would firm where and just upload the application so this is very suspect to me
Hi Thomas, I want to ask that can EOS 70d and EOS 100d use this setting, and if there are any issues that will happen while the camera is running? Thanks a lot!
Not sure if they support pf3 files, my videos about these picture styles all have a list in the description that will either show your camera or provide clues regarding the likelihood.
I'm so excited to find your simulations settings and after I saw your video I immediately bought some, but later I tried to install them I found out that eos utility 3 doesn't recognize my eos m5. Have any of your audience experienced this issue before and is there a way to make this work? Now I am starting to suspect that the m5 is not supported by canon anymore. This is so frustrating.
There's a few things that can be the reason for the hiccup. There's various version of eos utility so try another one. I'm in Europe but I believe the one I used (specific to my camera model) I downloaded from Canon Asia. It could also be the cable, some cables are not compatible/lack data transmission side. Some camera models like the G series use "picture style registration tool" instead of eos utility.
Hi! That's agood question. It depends on what you like? You could check out the ones I have and their respective videos for examples and inspiration. If you’re on Instagram the hash tag filmiccanon is another way to see some of the profiles in action.
Hey buddy .. Thank you for making those awesome picture profiles. I have purchased a few from your site and was able to install them on canon 5D mark2 .. I was wondering .. is there a way to add them to my canon 5D classic? canon classic will not communicate with the PC via data cable because its old I guess .. is there another way to do it? Thanks again.
First of, thank you! Sadly I don't think the classic supports these types of files (pf3) in fact according to Canon, neither should the mkII 😅 But by somehow it does which always makes me happy when I see it. Official support for pf3 files seems to be cameras released around 2015 and forward.
Hi, I haven’t gotten any reports on this particular model. According to Canon, most models released after 2015 should support these. I believe your model was released in 2019 so the chances are good. Give it a try and let me know if it works.
I'm having trouble editing the photos when importing into lightroom. The "picture style" doesnt seem to cross over when I go to develop. Any suggestions?
Hi Thomas, I bought the California Cowboy pack and others from your website. They look great, but I have a problem. When I open the RAW file in Camera Raw in Photoshop, it automatically opens with the Adobe Standard profile, and the colors from the California Cowboy profile are completely lost. Which profile should I select to make sure the RAW file opens with the colors from that profile? I hope you can help me with this, thanks!
Unfortunately Adobe hasn't discovered the greatness of these profiles yet. But if you want to process RAW files you can use Canons software Digital Professional which will allow you to apply the profiles to your RAW files. As the base idea was to make something that would offer a type of limitation by only applying to jpgs that's the only way atm
Hello I just purchased two packs. I want to use jpegs obviously for these. Should I shoot medium files for uploading to social or sharing on r5? What do you recommend? Thank you! As well will you have lr presets Incase I need a larger image that I may fall in love with?
Thank you first of all. The size, I'd say medium is probably more than plenty for 2048 pixels (longside) social media posts. Unless you want to shoot wider and crop to various formats in post and things like that. There is a way to use the profiles on raw files with Canons raw editing software which supports pf3 files natively. It's free and can be downloaded from their website. LR presets, hopefully, when, not sure ;)
Sorry I emailed you. I cannot upload them to my 5r. I have the Mac air. And the steps are not detailed. I have unarchive and I have the utilities yet you didn't show what to click in either so I'm lost. Sorry I'm a bit slow on this. I am really wanting to use these in wine country in Mexico
Some of the packs are compressed as they contain multiple files while a few film simulations are just a single file which doesn't need to be uncompressed. Easiest way to check is to look at the file type. If it ends with ".pf3" it can go straight on your camera. If it ends with .zip or .rar it needs to be uncompressed before it can be loaded onto your camera using the eos utility software. Hope this helps
Sorry but there's curves adjustments and a whole bunch of color tweaks that can't be done manually on the camera itself. If your camera is older it might not support pf3 files which according to Canon was introduced as standard around 2015 (even if some older cameras seems to support pf3 files) There's a lot of free pf2 files online, try one of those and if it works, it's safe to assume the camera might not be new enough to read the newer files.
Hi Thomas, I installed California Cowboy, EuroTrip and Crowdak V3 on my Canon M6 ii. It's not working, the image looks same as standard - only a little bit more reds on the EuroTrip. Any advice or tip?
Not sure, if you can choose them in camera and you're not in some sort of auto mode but fully manual (auto modes can override custom picture styles) It may come down to the light, scene, exposure style, colors in the scene, time of day and so on. Hard to say. But I hear similar things from people shooting with some kind of auto mode where the exposure is more towards a "correct" exposure vs what looks best for the scene in combination with a specific film sim. Some film simulations might look great on greenery and not do super much on other scenes and vice-versa. Sorry that's all I can think of. I've seen lots of m6 mkII shots on IG with these profiles so it definitely should work. Hope the above info will put you in the right direction on figuring out what needs to be changed.
What would you be shooting, stills, video? And what type of stills or video? Canon cameras are easy to use. The m200 can do a great job in a lot of situations. And even if Canon has dropped their m-line of cameras by now. There's enough 3rd party lenses available on the market. As far as Fujifilm goes I don't think I'd pick the X-a5 to compete with the m200 as it's more of a range finder style camera. I would probably look at cameras like the x-s10 which would blow the m200 out of the water on in most areas except AF performance. But it comes down to what you're planning on using the camera for.
@@thomasfransson thank you so much for responding. Im not a prof photographer, will just be using for stills, travel photos like an everyday and go-to camera. How about canon g7x series? Just choosing between these cams. TIA :)
Sorry for the late response@@krisca819 I missed the notification. Did you settle on a camera yet? The G7X cameras are quite popular and there's a lot of content about them out there. I've only taken 4-5 shots with a G7X MkII so I don't consider myself an expert on that camera. I believe I've heard complaints regarding the AF in video mode. I think Potato Jet compared it to a similar camera from Panasonic a few years ago and that was the outcome.
Hi! Thanks for your video. I'm from Spain and I have the Canon EOS 600D. I'm trying to download the software EOS Utility compatible with my camera but they only have the Windows software version, and I need it for MacOS. I'm having trouble with this, and also my laptop doesn't recognize the camera. There's any chance where I can use these film simulations on my Canon in a different way? Thank you very much :)
No, these are made with Canons official software for creating custom picture styles for cameras. And you use their software to load them on to your camera.
And you've chosen them in the camera menu and expose manually to get the look you want? I'm pretty sure at least some cameras revert to standard picture styles when using auto modes. Also keep in mind that even if you shoot actual film, it wont necessarily look way different from digital depending on the scene and how it's exposed. That's why I always recommend shooting with these film simulations using either live view or a evf so you can see what they do and how they behave. At least in the beginning before you are familiar with them and know what to look for and how you should expose to get the look you want. Same with any eventual white balance tweaks depending on what you want. Also be mindful that each film simulation have a varying degree of "look" some are stronger others might come across as more subtle depending on the scene. That's the same with regular film and film simulations, some may render green in a natural and expected way while others might render greenery way different and in a scene with a lot of greenery one might stand out more vs the other way around if shooting in some other location with different dominating colors and lighting characteristics. So there's a lot to it, including the right film sim, exposure and obviously making sure there's no auto settings interfering. I hope this helps you figuring out what's up.
Worth mentioning: if your computer doesn't recognize your camera at first, make sure in the camera's settings under Wifi that those connections are disabled. If it is enabled you can't connect via USB or HDMI.
There should be a software called picture style registration tool (also by Canon) I did a video titled G7X... where users shared their tips and processe in the comments on installing on these cameras
Has anyone came across a situation where you try to upload the picture style with the Canon Utility and it keeps saying that the file format is not supported? I've installed Thomas's picture styles before on my Canon R6 so this file (.pf3) format is definitely supported by this camera, but now on a different laptop I'm keep getting this "format is not supported" error message. Any ideas? Camera firmware is updated to the latest one, Eos Utility is also the newest version.
Some packs contains more than just one pf3 file and is therefore compressed. These files ends with either .rar or .zip and can not be read by the camera. Other times it's the EOS utility that's acting up and it can be a good idea to download another or the same version from another Canon site. I believe the one I currently use I download from Canon Asia. Third thing would be if it's an older camera that doesn't support pf3 files. Forth would be a faulty cable or one that only offers charging leads and not data leads.
You're demoing on the 200d or sl2. It's the same camera i have but when i connect the latest version of eos utility to my sl2 set to stills, only a camera icon shows up. I'm unable to follow anything after launching the eos app because nothing looks the same on my end.

Just got my Canon R8 and first thing I did was download the picture styles. But they are grayed out on my camera menu. What settings do I need to do to use them?
Hi Thomas, great job! You really made me want to dust off my good old EOS 1200d again :-) Is pf3 format compatible with the 1200d, which was released in 2014?
Hi! That's a really good question, I believe since talking to Canon about this - that 2014-2015 was the year where they switched to pf3. So I'd say there's a 50/50 chance =/ I hope to release some pf2 profiles in the future. But I can't say when that will be. So check back now and then.
Been using Californian Cowboy and Crowdak for a while now and I just love it. It's a total banger and I don't even have to post process some images because they look amazing SOOC. Thomas, do you know if there's any way to import these profiles on Lightroom so I can apply them directly to my raw files? I just wish I could install more than 3 custom profiles, because I feel like in some cases other profiles might suit better. But we gotta work with what we have and it's good enough :)
I'm not sure if I've heard from anyone using those cameras, but it probably will if there’s room for custom/user picture styles among the default ones.
I've heard some people having success using wireless connection. Not sure what camera models this works on, but if yours is broken it might be worth looking into. I bet Canon have a guide for how to set up a wireless connection with your camera.
I followed your instructions by connecting the camera to the computer with the usb cable and then i launched eos utility app but nothing like what you're showing shows up on my end. I jus see the camera icon on my camera and the camera is set to stills not video. help.

Hi Thomas, I really like all you videos that you have recently posted about the Fujifilm simulations on the Canon EOS cameras. Is it possible to upload the .pf2 files onto a Canon Powershoot G5Xii? I have tried using EOS Utillity on both Mac and Windows, but it doesnt recognise the camera, even though the PC and Mac does. Is there something else I need to do for the App to recognise the camera, or is there another program that I can use etc? Spent hours, without any success. Thanks for your advice. Cheers, Adam.
Thank you I really appreciate it. I'm not sure if it's possible. I hope someone sees this comment and could point you in the right direction or at least confirm if it's possible. I have a few older Canon models with the same issue and haven't found a way around ut myself.

I am currently waiting for a cable to connect my camera to my macbook to download the presets using picture style file registration tool but where will it load into the camera settings is my question.
Probably if you’re using a different camera model than in the video. The 200D I use in the video is a discontinued model. That or if you’re using a version other than English. Then it may be a different version because of the language pack/translation. I always use the English international versions for these tutorials instead of my native Swedish ;)
Hello, I'm trying to download the EOS utility for my Canon 5D mark ll and the driver doesn't appear, do you know how I can download it, or does the one for the 5d mark iii work for me?
No experience with this I'm afraid, have you tried downloading from another Canon site, there’s Asia, Europe, North America and so forth. The mkiii might be another option.
I would like to try out your film simulations, but my computer is a Chromebook, and Canon haven't released an EOS Utility for the Chromebook. Do you know of any website where I could get some guidance as to how to install them? Thanks.
Oh! That's a shame that Canon haven't followed up these new platforms. I'm terribly sorry but I don't know of any other way. I hope you find a solution and while you're at it - contact Canon about this. The more people whos asking for a chromebook compatible EOS Utility the sooner it'll happen.
Hi Thomas! I want to ask you bc i think that my canon doesn’t support df3 file but df2 does 😢. That’s maybe the reason why i can’t import your film stimulation into my canon 550d. Do you have any solution for this? Thank you!!
And another thing is that i tried to install eos utility 3 but there’s no utility 3 in my laptop, it’s just the ver 2. Help me pls i love your film stimulation so much 😭
I'm not sure if the 550D reads pf3 files, you can check the list in the description of my sim videos. I try to keep that list as up to date as I can. Eos utility can be finicky and sometimes you will have to try a different version. I believe the one I'm running is from Canon Asia even if I'm based in Europe. Not sure why this is, but hopefully Canon or Google might be able to shed some more light on the specifics.
Yes you can! I believe you'd use the Canon picture style registration tool instead of the eos utility for the g7 series cameras. I have a video on this where the comment section is loaded with more information on this if needed.
I have the M50 ii I have tried to connect it with my MacBook through cable (it didn’t work) the I manage to connect it through WiFi, once I put the styles on it didn’t let me save them and I don’t know why. Any advice will be appreciated!
Try another version of Eos utility maybe even from another region. Most often these issues also comes down to not having the camera in photo mode, not unpacking the files as shown in this video. And when using an uncompatible cable. Make sure it’s a data cable and not just a charging cable.
I'm not sure, if it's the mkII it might. It needs to be able to handle. Pf3 files and this was introduced around 2014-2015 according to Canon. But I have some users reporting it working on older cameras to. But it’s free for you to try so give it a shot and let me know if it worked so I can add the model to the list of supported cameras.
I keep trying to get the EOS Utility but can only find the EOS Webcam Utility which just tries to get me to stream. It doesn't have all these other options. Help please?
I was able to install the photo styles and get them on my new canon m200 but as soon as I clicked the shutter button to try out the new photo style the camera froze and now won’t turn on at all (just getting a green flashing light- but only when the SD card is inserted, no response without it) any idea why this happened? :(
A quick Google search on "green flashing light Canon m200" shows that it seems to be a fairly common problem and not related to the film sims. There's multiple threads online on this issue. Check them out and see if any of the suggestions mentioned will help. Can be lens communication to a number of other things... Good luck
Hi! How did you find the picture style on the m200 after you installed it? I have the same camera but I can’t find the picture style I installed on my camera
That's weird, I did a test myself just now and it worked... could you provide some more details? There's a box where you need to type in an amount, from 0$ to the amount you want to pay for the product. There's a grayed out example number in there by default though.
@@thomasfransson I’m sure! I’m wondering about what app to use. Picture style editor from canon only seems to take me so far and can’t split tone with it. I’d love to make someone for myself that matches what I do with my images. 🤞🏼
I totally understand, sadly this is the only option and that's why it sometimes takes a lot of massaging to produce working yet interesting results. But don't give up, keep making them and run tests. You'll get there event
That is weird, they work on the R5 and R6, which should be similar to the R50 in terms of file support. Maybe check with Canon if everything else is done right.
@@thomasfransson I think after watching your channel the EOS-M and Helios 44-2 is my best decision in my life, How this can do with beyond capabilities.
Hi guys I just dusted off my 5d classic. None of the utilities i have allow me to do anything. The setting you clicked in the beginning, is greyed out. Frustrated...or is the 5d too old
Yes, I believe most if not all Canon cameras have three of these slots. Maybe the 1DX MkII and other top of the line models have 5 slots. But don't quote me on that 😅
One or two profiles in the California cowboy pack and maybe some other was made based on a profile called Fine Detail which didn't have native support on some Canon cameras. I've created alternative versions of those. After that released I've only used the more standard profiles as base. That's all the info I can provide around this. They're all pf3 files
Not likely, but it could be worth a shot to give it a try. In general cameras released around 2014-2015 seems to be the earliest models supporting pf3 files vs the previous pf2 standard
That's very odd, I've had 5D MkII users confirm they've been able to load these onto their cameras. Sadly it's not possible to convert the files to pf2. The only thing I can think of at the moment would be if you’re trying to load some of the profiles based on the picture style "Fine Detail" which was a semi recent addition and not supported natively but older cameras. But from memory this should only be an issue with the California Cowboy pack, and I've released separate versions of those profiles as a workaround. Also I'm not sure if it could be a firmware related problem?
Thanks so much for your message! The firmware is up-to-date. All I did was follow your instructions. The file extension that are allowed are the 2 not 3. I was really disappointed. Do you have any that might work?
Sadly no idea - I'm terribly sorry. I don't have access to all camera models so I'll have to trust other users verifications regarding what models these have been installed on successfully.
Try using the picture style registration tool instead. This seems to work better with G-series cameras. Also make sure you’re using a cable with data transmission and not a cable that's just for charging.
@@thomasfransson thank you Thomas! I really appreciate your help. It worked. For anyone reading this after. Use picture style file registration tool to register up to 3 picture styles onto the camera. Took under 5 mins

Try setting your camera to manual mode and make sure it’s in photo and not video mode (if not done so already) For the GX series there seems to be a second option software wise called "Picture Style Registration Tool" that can make the process simpler on these cameras. So it might be worth a shot if nothing else seems to work.
Great info, thanks for sharing!
Where did you find the version 2? Can’t find it anywhere for my T5
@@diegodelgado97 also a reminder to make sure that camera is set to "manual" mode otherwise it will be greyed out/you can't click on it :)
@@thomasfransson Do you know if the G5X mkII can be used with your recipes? Really good work
I believe so, there is a list in the description of the film sim videos with cameras that have been reported compatible by other users.
Works well with my R50

THIS COMMENT! Thank you, saved hours of my life haha
I would love to experiment with these preset, but I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to install them on my G5xii.
There is a video on installation on gx cameras where user's have shared a solution in the comments.
hi thomas , congrats for all these works and for the help that you give to us everyday , appreciate so much all that you do , a big hug from italy
Thank you I appreciate that!
They need to be loaded once in photo mode and once in video mode on the R8?
@@thomasfransson Yes, exactly!
Ah, got it. Thanks for bringing this up!
One tip, for those that doesnt have the cable for connecting the camera to your pc, you can always use the wifi feature (assuming your camera does have wifi feature) from your camera to connect to ur pc and basically follow the same steps after that
*Disclaimer, I will not be able to offer any support on wifi transmission or what camera models this is available on.
thank you man! you are great! appreciate your help.
You can do the same with Nikon picture control (for Nikon cameras obviously)
Cool
Probably not in stills mode then?
Same here, greyed out button. Did you find the solution?
@@cristianormazabal1168 I think I redid the process couple times and restarted it as well, and it worked afterwards!

I tried ML and it just wasn't a good experience. I made a picture style and the video looks good right out of the EOS-M on firmware 2.0.2.
I managed to get it on my Canon RP and it's working. Since I've discovered this late in the night, I couldn't test much inside the house.
I'm looking forward to try these on real life situations! I'm so excited! Thank you so much 👏🏼
Good to hear the installation was successful, hope you'll enjoy the heck out of them!
Hi Thomas. Thank you for the info.
Do you mind sharing with me the full link for your Film Simulations for Canon, as the tinyurl doesn't open for some reason.

Not sure, my camera and those I've come across have just three slots. Might be models that have more slots though.

@@thomasfransson Is there a way I can apply this filter to my other photo that is not taken with the filter?
Yes sir, if you install Canons RAW editing program. I belive it's called Digital Professional you will be able to add the the picture styles to your RAW photos afterwards.
You’re a hero, thank you!!! One question I had in mind is, can I use 7-Zip instead of Winrar to uncompress??
Maybe, I'm not familiar with that software. Good luck and have fun!
Great! Does it work on a EOS R10?
It should
Doesn´t work for Canon 100D (SL1).
Do I do the same steps if I want this on video as well?
Yes sir, it's the same procedure.
Hi Thomas, are these stimulations available for Canon SX720 HS ?
I'm not sure. The camera needs to have custom profile slots. You can do some digging on that and see if it does. If so, that's a good sign
Thanks!! Unfortunately though my camera I realized does not have utility software for it, so I can't put the presets on. Thanks anyway!!
Thank you very much
Hi, I've never used the m200 so I don't know. Maybe you're in auto mode?
@@thomasfransson Ahh that solved it! Thank you so much and keep up the great work!
Will this work for G7X Mark II? Thank you 😊
Yes it will, I know there's a couple of people shooting with that camera and these film sims.
I tried to import the files but the software won't let me "ok". Any idea as to why this is 😢
If you've extracted the files so you're trying to load files that ends with .pf3 and it won't let you ok/confirm it might not be supported by that camera model.
How to prevent this happening? thx a lot ❤
You will need to make a round trip to Canons raw software. (Photo professional) if you want to keep the profile on the raws
Hi Thomas. Thank you for your incredible work and contribution to the Canon community. When I upload your files to the photo registration profile, the "OK" button is not available for me to confirm, so I can't upload them to the camera. Any idea what could be wrong?
EOS M200 btw
Starting with the most common problem people run into - Not uncompressing the downloaded file before trying to load the profiles to their cameras...
The files each downloaded file contains 2 or more files ending with. Pf3
Those are the actual film simulations.
But since you just watched the tutorial on that. My next guess would be -
According to Google the m200 was released 2019 so it should be able to accept pf3 files.
Plus, you should be able to also just upload it onto an SD card like you would firm where and just upload the application so this is very suspect to me
Thank you, that was exactly what worked! @@Daviid123
it worked! I love it thanks a lot for making this video!❤
Awesome!

Does this allow my own LR presets to be emulated??
You can't convert LR presets to picture styles. Picture Styles needs to be built in a software that corresponds with the cameras color processing
Hi Thomas, thanks for your styles and videos! Any chance you know the EOS utility version that will work with a canon g7x mark iii?
I believe it’s called "picture style file registration tool" should work in a similar fashion as eos utility
What do you mean should happen?
@@thomasfransson Umm nothing, thanks a lot for your answers. I am very appreciate your help.
Hello Thomas,
I just got the Portra profiles for my Canon m6 mk2 - looking forward to the summer with them on my camera =]
Enjoy!
Hey my friend i want to try on my R8, any suggestions?
Hi! That's agood question.
It depends on what you like?
You could check out the ones I have and their respective videos for examples and inspiration. If you’re on Instagram the hash tag filmiccanon is another way to see some of the profiles in action.
Got them loaded onto my M50, didn't get the download link for the Crowdak settings though. Unless I'm missing something.
Thank brother, I answered your email. Hope it works from now on!
Is it possible to use an sd card or you need to connect using a laptop?
You will need a computer
Hello. Does this work with the Canon PowerShot G1X Mark iii?
Hi, I haven’t gotten any reports on this particular model. According to Canon, most models released after 2015 should support these. I believe your model was released in 2019 so the chances are good.
Give it a try and let me know if it works.
Did it work? @marcussaroop
I'm having trouble editing the photos when importing into lightroom. The "picture style" doesnt seem to cross over when I go to develop. Any suggestions?
They only "stick" to jpg images.
Could you post the values so we can create them manually on our cameras ? Sorry but I do not know why my cam does not get recognize by the pc.
Sorry but there's curves adjustments and a whole bunch of color tweaks that can't be done manually on the camera itself.
If your camera is older it might not support pf3 files which according to Canon was introduced as standard around 2015 (even if some older cameras seems to support pf3 files)
There's a lot of free pf2 files online, try one of those and if it works, it's safe to assume the camera might not be new enough to read the newer files.
@@thomasfransson I`m on fully manual. It was a very grey day today - I'll give it another try in different conditions.
Which one would you prefer canon m200 or fuji xa5 for beginners? Thanks
TIA :)
@@thomasfransson i agree, AF of canon is way better vs fujifilm.
Not sure as I'm on windows. But i would try Canon Canada, US, Asia or any other Canon page to see if there's anything available there.
Will this void the warrenty?
No, these are made with Canons official software for creating custom picture styles for cameras. And you use their software to load them on to your camera.
@ ah thanks
I have a problem, i can import the presets in my camera but it doesn't change anything in comparaison to the standard profile help me please
If it is enabled you can't connect via USB or HDMI.
how about replicate the nostalgic negative look of fuji recipes?
Love that one
Hi Thomas!
I can't find the G7 X Mark ii in the EOS Software Utility. Apparently you ca only choose a EOS model.
There should be a software called picture style registration tool (also by Canon)
I did a video titled G7X... where users shared their tips and processe in the comments on installing on these cameras
I'm unable to follow anything after launching the eos app because nothing looks the same on my end.
believe I've given you all the advice I can on that Facebook group. Also there seems to be some issue on apple computers. I'd recommend reaching out to Canon. Did a quick Google and yes, some sort of issue. Some workaround for some applications though.
But I'm on PC
Just got my Canon R8 and first thing I did was download the picture styles. But they are grayed out on my camera menu. What settings do I need to do to use them?
Hard to say. Maybe you're in some auto mode?
Hi Thomas, great job!
You really made me want to dust off my good old EOS 1200d again :-)
Is pf3 format compatible with the 1200d, which was released in 2014?
Hi!
That's a really good question, I believe since talking to Canon about this - that 2014-2015 was the year where they switched to pf3.
So I'd say there's a 50/50 chance =/
I hope to release some pf2 profiles in the future.
You can add them to raw files by using Canons digital photo professional, it's fairly similar to Adobe RAW.
@ nice! I'll check this out. Thanks, Thomas!
Wondering if this works with the EOS R-100 model?
I'd be surprised if it didn't since I think I've seen almost every R-series camera tested and confirmed. Let me know when you have it up and running.
Hi, will this work on canon eos m100 or m200
I'm not sure if I've heard from anyone using those cameras, but it probably will if there’s room for custom/user picture styles among the default ones.
Is there a way to connect your camera if the USB port is no longer working? Can it be updated through SD card?
I've heard some people having success using wireless connection. Not sure what camera models this works on, but if yours is broken it might be worth looking into. I bet Canon have a guide for how to set up a wireless connection with your camera.
I followed your instructions by connecting the camera to the computer with the usb cable and then i launched eos utility app but nothing like what you're showing shows up on my end. I jus see the camera icon on my camera and the camera is set to stills not video. help.

Hi! I tried this on my g9x mark ii. And it worked using picture style file registration tool
@@teresatran7603 Hi i just got a g9x mark ii as well, does it have picture styles in the settings? i can't seem to find it. I am currently waiting for a cable to connect my camera to my macbook to download the presets using picture style file registration tool but where will it load into the camera settings is my question.
i can't found the one that you are instaling. which one is this ?
That's from the urban filmic pack.
Hi, I'm form asia, why I get the different interface of EOS utility?
Probably if you’re using a different camera model than in the video. The 200D I use in the video is a discontinued model.
That or if you’re using a version other than English. Then it may be a different version because of the language pack/translation.
I always use the English international versions for these tutorials instead of my native Swedish ;)
I have an old camera 600D . Its only compatible with eos version 2 .. do you have any other ways to use eos version 3?
@@dicksonniconeiko500can't you load pictures styles on the v2?
Check out the pinned comment. That tip might work for your model as well.
@@thomasfransson tysm!!! Have a nice day 🤩
Hope you got it working
I recently bought a canon powershot g7. Would love to upload a film recipe on it. Do you know if that’s possible?😊
Yes you can!
I believe you'd use the Canon picture style registration tool instead of the eos utility for the g7 series cameras.
I have a video on this where the comment section is loaded with more information on this if needed.
@@thomasfransson if you mean the canon g7x video then I have a different camera I think. I have the g7 with 10mp
Ok, well in that case you might be the first one to give it a try on that particular camera model. Unless it's listed in the description already.
Is this possible with a canon r8 as well?
Yes it is
Hi, Does this method work for Canon R6?
Yes it does. Happy shooting!
@@thomasfransson It works great on my R6. Thank you so much for this video!
Can i use this on g7 mark 2
Yes, with the picture style registration tool from Canon instead of the eos utility software.
Thank you very much for the advices, I’ll have a look and I’ll let you know!
I've got a canon 500d but I can't get the utility software for it
Found it on Canon Europe with a "500D eos utility" google search so it's definitely available.
Can use it for 7D?
I'm not sure, if it's the mkII it might.
It needs to be able to handle. Pf3 files and this was introduced around 2014-2015 according to Canon. But I have some users reporting it working on older cameras to.
But it’s free for you to try so give it a shot and let me know if it worked so I can add the model to the list of supported cameras.
Can I extract these files from my iPad?
If there's an app like eos utility for iPad that allows you to transfer the profiles to your camera it should work.
@@thomasfransson perfect! Thank you!
I keep trying to get the EOS Utility but can only find the EOS Webcam Utility which just tries to get me to stream. It doesn't have all these other options. Help please?
There's a link to eos utility in the description of this video. Or just type eos utility into Google and it will show up as the top answers. Good luck
Does anyone know if there is a way to do this for a Canon G7X mark iii? My 60D is too old for this software apparently :(
With Canons picture style file registration tool.
@@thomasfransson found your other video thank you!!
Hi, is there a way to get more picture style slots?
Not apart from getting a second camera as far as I know
I was able to install the photo styles and get them on my new canon m200 but as soon as I clicked the shutter button to try out the new photo style the camera froze and now won’t turn on at all (just getting a green flashing light- but only when the SD card is inserted, no response without it) any idea why this happened? :(
A quick Google search on "green flashing light Canon m200" shows that it seems to be a fairly common problem and not related to the film sims.
Cannot purchase the simulations. Any reason why?
That's weird, I did a test myself just now and it worked... could you provide some more details? There's a box where you need to type in an amount, from 0$ to the amount you want to pay for the product. There's a grayed out example number in there by default though.
These are great! would be awesome to know how you made these :)
Thanks, lots of trial and error 😅
@@thomasfransson I’m sure! I’m wondering about what app to use. Picture style editor from canon only seems to take me so far and can’t split tone with it. I’d love to make someone for myself that matches what I do with my images. 🤞🏼
I totally understand, sadly this is the only option and that's why it sometimes takes a lot of massaging to produce working yet interesting results.
But don't give up, keep making them and run tests. You'll get there event
Anyone managed to do it for the G7X Mark III? I Cant get the EOS utility windows app to detect the camera
You'll find a lot of great tips on how to make it work in the comments of this video.

@@thomasfransson this works!!! Thank you so much! I just downloaded and plugged in my camera and it shows up easily, you’re a lifesaver!
awesome! Enjoy
Hi
In the app when I choose the file that I compress it show me ( unsupported file version )
What can I do
Eos R50 my camera
That is weird, they work on the R5 and R6, which should be similar to the R50 in terms of file support.
Maybe check with Canon if everything else is done right.
Amazing, Can this cable works on EOS-M ?
Yes sir, the EOS-M also use mini usb
@@thomasfransson I think after watching your channel the EOS-M and Helios 44-2 is my best decision in my life, How this can do with beyond capabilities.
ooh! that sounds like a nice combo!
Hi guys
I just dusted off my 5d classic. None of the utilities i have allow me to do anything. The setting you clicked in the beginning, is greyed out. Frustrated...or is the 5d too old
I believe it just falls out of the span and the mkII is working
Yep I got the mk ii working and it's really great!
That's going to be pure magic!
can you only fill up 3?
Yes, I believe most if not all Canon cameras have three of these slots. Maybe the 1DX MkII and other top of the line models have 5 slots. But don't quote me on that 😅
@why can’t the just add a couple more🥲
That would have been sweet!
I got the monochrome filter to work, but not the other 2 🤔
One or two profiles in the California cowboy pack and maybe some other was made based on a profile called Fine Detail which didn't have native support on some Canon cameras. I've created alternative versions of those.
After that released I've only used the more standard profiles as base.
That's all the info I can provide around this. They're all pf3 files
@@thomasfransson thank you very much! I’m enjoying the monochrome profile and have shared this video with friends 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Glad to hear. Hope you're able to figure out how to get the other ones up and running.
The unchiver for Mac can't extract the file 😢
If it's a .rar file it should. if it's a .pf3 file it don't need extraction.
Does it work with a 1100d?
Not likely, but it could be worth a shot to give it a try. In general cameras released around 2014-2015 seems to be the earliest models supporting pf3 files vs the previous pf2 standard
When I try to use one of the profile, nothing changes in my pictures from original, do you know what this can be?
Perhaps try another profile if that one's not giving you the desired results.
Your files are all in pf3 when all I'm allowed to use is pf2. Any help please?
Canon 5d mk ii
Could it be that my utility program is out of date?
Has anyone done this on a g9x MARK II? Im unable to get the EOS Utility to recognise my camera. Thanks
Glad it worked! Have fun shooting
Hi Mr. Fransson, is there any way to get more slots?
3 slots is nothing haha it would be cool if the other predetermined image styles could be erased
I got the canon m50 mark ii
I wish the same!
Sadly no. Maybe some of the high end cameras have more than three. But haven't confirmed this.
@@thomasfransson that’s too bad :( well we have to make up our minds in order to choose the styles we like the most!!
I wonder if there’s a 3rd party that allows you to get more styles haha
I have an canon G7X Mark III. When I connect my cam to the usb-c cable and try to register the picture style file, 'picture style files cannot be registered in this shooting mode' pops up. Anyone has any idea on how to help?
Try setting your camera to manual mode and make sure it’s in photo and not video mode (if not done so already)
For the GX series there seems to be a second option software wise called "Picture Style Registration Tool" that can make the process simpler on these cameras. So it might be worth a shot if nothing else seems to work.
Thank you man ❤
Any time, enjoy!
