I’m very happy to listen to a professional. I usually come away a little smarter, but a but humbled. Thank you.

Well, I am being hammered by the tool and die maker trade trolls, that never display any photos or will do videos but claim to be the only real machinist and people like me are Hot Dog machinist as it seems the troll of all machinist forum trolls Forest Addy branded me and I am leading youth astray with my Millwright credentials and methods and get it done rotation.

    It’s a museum all right,
That old Gra Lab darkroom timer on the wall brings back memories for me, I bought one in the mid Seventies for my photographic escapades and still have it on my wall, and it will still buzz.
I don’t think they’ve made them in many decades.

I still have everything and would like to set up a Fold up dark room for 35mm B-W like used to be done

As an apprentice in the 70's, our shop had a 5C collet closer on a an ancient South Bend belt driven lathe, but it had a REAR closer arm that was easily adjusted for tightness of the collet.
Never had or seen one of those tailstock turret accessories, cause we had 2 actual Warner Swazey(?) turret lathes for that sort of machining. Keep up the good work Don, brings back old forgotten memories!

The mold shop sale had this front lever closer and the rear lever closer that is still there. The Axelson head stock is long where you have to move and stretch to use the rear lever type, this one is right there but screwing the collet in and out makes it harder to use other than for running bar stock. The Enco tailstock turret works best in the heavy side wheel tailstocks where it is actually hard to change tools, I think once set up it should work pretty good and be entertaining at the same time, thanks

I will get a computer and the needed microphones and try to use them

I need to get one of those tailstock turrets, but I would fit it into the carriage mounted drilling bracket which I think would make low number production jobs go really quickly.

This turret is a 5" with 1" holes, seem to begin flexing at much over a 3/8" drill bit in steel, I like the idea of using one on a tool post, thanks

Hi Don , I like your shop , thanks for showing . I need a part made , it's a collet body (about the size of a 5c) with a ER 25 nose . Is that something you would be interested in ? Of course I have all the mating parts and samples to reverse engineer . Thanks .

      Why can't you make it?

My lathe isn't big enough . Or else I would . The collet will go on a Pratt & Whitney 3C mill .@@DonDyarprecision

Hi. In pursuit of precision. Since my tool and cutter grinder work heads are not axial adjustable, Cuttermasters recommends the Hardinge four split high precision 5C collets. Do you feel it is necessary to spend $90 on a 5C collet for center cutting two and four flute end mill sharpening? Thanks for all the work making educational videos.

The local Colledge had a set of Royal 4 split collets but Rob at the mold shop and others just used good collets or ones that could be tweaked true. I will show some adjusting while tightening the collet methods that might help, thanks for the video idea!

I don’t want to pester you Sir, but I do want to buy that spindexer and the square set. I went through the other videos and I don’t see how to reach out to you or Rob any other way. I have PayPal and and send the payment, just need to know how much and where to send it. If you mentioned it in a older video just point me to it and I’ll dig it out of the history.
I don’t want to get on your nerves so I’ll just leave it there. If I don’t get a response then I’ll just drop it.
Hope you and Rob are making headway.
I don’t know what he wants for the JFK 5C collet assembly but I would buy that was well.
Just let me know if your willing to box it up and send it to me. And like I mentioned, where to send the payment, and how much to send. Thanks for sharing the gold mine ! I hope Rob is set and happy with his retirement.

Hi! call Rob 509-540-8629, I will set those aside for you for now, the spindex is great, Rob thinks its not worth shipping because of the price of ones now, this one is smooth like over a decade old just not used, the JFK looks good, but Iwill make sure it is complete and measure the tube, thanks for the reminder!

      @@DonDyarprecision thank you Sir.
I can’t believe that cutter grinder hasn’t been scooped up already. I did a trip plan to see if I could make it work but you are a 30 hour drive from me. Hard to justify that much time and fuel and still offer a fair price to Rob. It’s too bad. I’ve been wanting one of those since Moses parted the Red Sea. That one is in great shape. But as you know it’s not just the machine, it’s all the fixtures and tooling that goes with it that makes it so valuable. I will reach out to Rob and get him paid. The JFK is going to be a project for sure, adapting it to my Clausing Metosa is going to have be all custom made. I’ll save the original drawbar and adapter but I’m sure it’s not going to be “bolt on” fit as it’s surely intended for a larger machine than my little 14”..
come to think of it, it may just require me to get a bigger lathe ! ☝️😁

    • @DonDyarprecision
      @DonDyarprecision  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think you will just have to shorten the tube, it is pretty long and make a adapter for the rear, Rob has an aluminum piece there to fit the old Grizzly the collet adapter might just fit right in. It appears the spindex of that vintage can be made into an air bearing!@@jasonhull5712
