Learning your equipment and doing the work yourself is crucial, not just the aspect of saving money and not trusting anyone else to do it but it could save you from sitting on the shoulder waiting on a hook to take you to the shop over something simple. And if you can’t fix it atleast you’ll know what the issues is and what it takes to fix it so some mechanic ant shooting you the BS
Dude I've built these all day long. I can do a super tune by a valve adjustment. Basically I'm giving a adjustment when the intake stays closed a bit longer for combustion and the exhaust opens up a bit sooner. Man the injector you advance a bit and back the Jake's off an 1/8 turn. That thing will bark. Bet you thought a real mechanic would comment
Looka you. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Learning the wrench side of things 💪🏾 And a clamp would work on that coolant hose... but the correct size hose is better. Pull that screw out a d roll on. 🫣 So I didn't see an exhaust temp sensor after the turbo in this video. Thus no pyro gauge. It's prolly cut or zip tied along the firewall.
Had my 12.7 turned up 625, didn't have overheating issues but I don't roll full throttle! But I did have a issue with lower mpgs.. And that did cause me to turn her back down had my tune guy set me up for power when I need it instead of 24/7 power.. Way better for my needs, left lane rooster cruisin and middle lane still pulling down 8.5 with a load on it's back.. With that hood fuel ain't your main priority lol.. I had a classic xl loved it just wasn't working for my setup.. Hope yours is keeping you profitable and not in the poor house..
Man, the Detroit crowd is getting as bad as the cat fan boys with these big numbers on "just a tune" 😅. I run a built... built 12.7 by Serious Series 60 out of Pennsylvania, s400sx turbo, blueprinted and matched injectors, ceramic coated forged pistons, forged rods and crank, Fass fuel system, custom ground cam, custom dampener, full tilt ceramic manifold and tuned by the master, Fernando at Diesel Control Services. 817hp at the crank, 691hp to the ground, y'all are trippin on 625-650 on a tune, 600 max on a mild 171702 bw turbo. Don't believe me, there's plenty of knowledgeable Detroit turbo gurus on TH-cam who agree. Better yet, give Erich a call at Serious Series 60 performance or Fernando at DCS, they will both have a good laugh.
For sure a 171702 isn't a custom turbo by any stretch of the imagination lol that's a stock turbo run on many Detroit's and if you don't tune ecm's everyday you don't know what your doing! And I know first hand the Detroit program doesn't offer tunes you might be able to change the hp numbers but you can't advance or change fuel curves.. Fernando will definitely tell you that
Thats what I likes about Da bruthas.. They go to mechanics for years get ripped off then realize then been punked and then you see my man down Harbor freight buying tools . But how did you buy the turbo & kit without doing the much needed Fuel increase ... Or did you think you could get away without it ....
Oiiii. You dump more fuel, you get shitty mpg. And 600+ horsepower is suitable for 14L. 550hp for 12.7. You got a s400 non wastegated turbo. Unless it’s modified, stock s400 always tend to lag. On the other hand, K31 with a fine tune 550hp will get you quick spool and decent mpg. Just my 2cents. There’s a guy out of Kansas named Shaun wiltfong, he’s a fine tuner plus he got connections for high performance turbos plus he install them as well. You gotta check all the boi, fudge factor and cam timing not only dumping fuel. 171702 a notorious turbo to blow.
Hey bro have a 12.7 n have my own laptop I know how to do the basic but how to specifically get the tune for 600 to 650 hp how to do a proper tune can u give any info on how to do
I'm looking to get my CDL and I just wanna begin doing roll off and stuff like that. Any good recommendations on how or where to begin with getting it?
Find a good certified driving School and save probably $1000.00 to pay for the down payment. Get a Commercial Drivers handbook, study that and go get your petmit. When You look for a Truck Driving School You also want to learn to drive a Manuel shifting tractor, that automatic restriction is not good if possible. You have to decide if You want to go Otr, Regional or local, if You go Otr for a year then they will pay your truck School bill, Regional should pay it to but if You go local then You will pay your bill yourself each month. You will have the payment easily. Also, in school make sure that You practice alley docking because that is the major backing that You will do. Good Luck.
I don't know the mpg for any of my trucks because i don't haul general freight. If you haul freight that pays $5+/mile the mpg want matter. If i had to guess its between 6-7mpg just like any other truck
Yeah, they rip off trucking passion for 45k on an inframe on his 389 Pete, He whines up having a blown sleeve, a crackhead, almost blew up his turbo because the thick as thieves didn't torque it down to spec this all happen after inframe and they didn't give a warranty on their incompetent work.
You might want to be careful messing with that tuner on That truck Because if you don't know too much about engines you might want a diesel mechanic to do that or you will mess up the engine. IJS🤷🏾♂️ You might want to tune in to Gentry and Son TH-cam channel I think he talks about messing with those tuners.
That is sweet! The 12.7 is one of the greatest motors of all time.
Jakes scream nice n loud on one too it’s really easy to float vs a def engine like the x15
I spotted this 1998 International 9300 with 12.7; listed decent price. Get r done CAJ

It's a bite small turbo I don't know about that. Unless you count your fen's. It's a beast and sounds good. Keep up the good work.
Looka you. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
