Hello. To summarise this video, the Bandit is great. I loved that bike and will probably get a 1200 in the future. I'm currently riding a Himalayan & I it gives me the same feeling as this Bandit did.

It's nothing like a Himalayan.... Inline 4 pseudo sport bike with high redline, decent suspension and brakes vs. a bike with 1 cylinder and crap suspension and brakes? Weird. More like a Ducati Monster than a Himalayan.

Air cooling = no plumbing. Carburettors = no sensors to fail. Long production run = lots of new and used spares about. Simple bike = reliability. Early ones are old = cheap insurance.

I agree got one and never let me down yet! Great for first time guys you can get one very cheap and have plenty of money left to replace and improve with what you want, chuck a decent exhaust on it and you definitely get looks and a few thumbs up, they are not quick compared to modern stuff well pretty much any 600 + bike built from 2000 but they are gonna be fuel injected and or have emission crap on them to go wrong, i had a 1000 fazer before my 600 bandit the fazer was absolutely brilliant but too fast i love riding fast and that thing was gonna take my licence so i done a straight swap for my 600 bandit something like 6 years ago haven't racked up huge mile on it probably 2k or so a year, when i swapped bikes i rode the 600 home and regretted it immediately it felt like a toy like a 125 bit after 2 or 3 weeks i got used to it it felt good and done what i needed it to do, i have a 1200 as well which had been off the road for a good few years and that thing drinks fuel big time the 600 bandit isnt great on fuel but if you ride it sensible it can be ok not great but it cost like £120 max a year to insure and most of the jobs can be done with simple tools at home and new and used parts are esy and cheap to find yeah if you just getting back into biking or just starting you with fall in love with it and would most likely add to your collection rather than sell it its one of those bikes its just a good all rounder and well worth keeping!

I have a 650 and I kinda regret not getting an older 600. I've had constant problems with it that I could just fix at home if it was an older, less electrical system.

    • @dave8204
      @dave8204 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@_XRMissie One thing I love about my 600 is that it's so simple. I've been in and around the bike trade for years and the majority of problems I see these days are electrical faults on fairly new ,and often very expensive, bikes. I was actually thinking of contacting a guy to look at his injected 650 tomorrow ,you've made me see sense and I'll cross it off my list and check out a couple of nice-looking 600's locally. The only electrical problem I've had in 10 years was that it went through a phase of blowing rear light bulbs, turned out the bit the lens screws into was broken and it was the vibrations from that that was the problem not the actual electrics.

My first bike was a Suzuki GS500E. Air cooled, simple and reliable as a brick. Not much power but I’m not a big guy. Mainly it was light and handled well. I got hit head on by a bad driver, and replaced that bike with a 96 Bandit 600 in 2000. Tomato Red. Loved it. Had to sell it when we bought our house, and regretted it. I brought home a candy red 98 model on Father’s Day 2004, and have had it ever since. Keep it fueled up and change the oil, and it’ll run forever. Thanks for the review.

My 600's about done after 65,000 miles in total,53,000 in my 10 year ownership. It's been my only transport in that time and has got me through 10 winters. It's been always been properly serviced but never pampered. It's never, ever failed to start, probably the only bike I've had that gives a clue that the battery is about to die rather than it coming out of the blue,it'll come close to dying as you spin the starter and run like crap, take the hint and you'll avoid getting stranded.
It's got to the stage now where everything is tired ,it needs new tyres ,cain and sprockets and a service and I'd probably have to spend a lot more than it's worth to get it through the next mot next month and plenty of older bikes in good nick for not much money these days. Only real problem has been the ongoing exhaust rot,I've had the usual stainless mod to the exhaust but the silncers rot just as quickly and I'm on my 5th one!! Luckily with a bit of effort I've usually managed to find cheap replacements on eBay but it's a faff and if I'd known then what I know now I'd have had a stainless system fitted way back when I bought it as a minter and it was worth spending money on. I've been riding for nearly 50 years now and while there's nothing outstanding about the Bandit I've had over 30 bikes and it's my favourite,I never, ever thought I'd keep any bike for over a decade, before the Bandit my record was 2 years, more often I'd change every year.

I'm still not certain if I'm going to finish editing and posting it or if I'm going to reshoot it. Maybe I'll go grab some footage in the blizzard we're having right now...
Anyway, it's funny how you mention how common and popular it is. Here in the Midwest US, I almost never see them. Ever. I'm sure there are statistics that would prove me wrong, but the SV650 had to outsell the Bandit 10:1 based on my own limited experience in my location. The biggest positives about the Bandit in my eyes are the looks (love the naked, meh on the faired), price, and comfort. It's almost comically heavy though for its size. It's not unwieldly or unbalanced, but I'm convinced that if I cut the frame in half I'm bound to find it filled with lead.

I just got a 2005 bandit 650 as my first bike, I have had some trouble doing low speed stuff smoothly but that's definitely in part to my inexperience. It's really heavy like almost overwhelmingly at first I'm still nervous about its weight but I think for a beginner bike if you're getting a good deal I'd definitely recommend it, it's fast enough that you can use it for multiple seasons without getting bored of it, super reliable, easy to find parts etc. I might be biased lol but I love mine!

Now the chain and sprockets are going in the bin and I need to probably split the caliper to get the pins out (something I've never done before). So there's a bit of work to do that could have been prevented.

Adam, Andy the Bandit here. Decent vid....BUT give me a few moments. Firstly you mentioned offroad. Never ever designed for...i have kept my Bandit for 9 years because i honestly could not find ONE sensible reason to sell it. Eh?? You say.....
My reasons....I have an 09 plate, gunmetal metallic silver grey 650 Bandit S half faired. I bought it for 3k and have been offered that by two people in the last 6 months. Every time i go out someone stops me to look at her.
    1. Total Bulletproof engine 6 speed box, i have not even replaced light bulb! In 9 years. These are not fishing numbers....0 60 in 2.9 seconds top speed 140mph. I thought no never. So on the M5 middle lane empty motorway i got to 135 still going and i came off the throttle, little man in my head said...what the f.... Are you doing?? The bends on the motorway get very short at that speed. My Bandit was Amazing!! It got very quiet has a superb block! My bike is quicker to 60 and cruises better than my friends GS 1250. Cost him a grand to do a service!! My service Full costs £250 with parts, plugs everything. I put Castrol Power 1 in just the best oil, fantastic stuff. I change oli filter every 2k religiously. The engine purrs...
2 very comfortable bike to ride, when i pillion the only time you really notice is under braking. My bike has twin discs on Abs which is fantastic, the engine braking is brilliant in itself. It cruises all day long at 75mph on the motorway if you have to! The tank is 19ltres. My range is circa 250miles at 60mpg
    3. I run michelin road 5, the bike is stable, planted, very maneuverable, a joy to ride frankly. Great in traffic, you can plod my bike in fifth just on tick over, lovely low end torque on the Sukuki engine. Hondas are a pain in he ass, rattling and moan like hell in not the exact rev!!
    4. Insurance is good. I pay around £174 this year up slightly in the market. But really good insurance. I have ten years ncd.
    5. Easy to clean, maintain, check. A joy to ride. Classic four cylinder in line, fuel injected. So smooth to ride, cant hear her half the time, it will accelerate like billio if you want! I dont! Typically on a run i will open her up on the flat section of m48 near me if quiet. I cruise at 75mph from there, a hard throttle for 2 secs will take you to 110mph and easily! The Power delivery on this engine is so smooth and strong through midrange. The engine develops 92hp.
So, why the hell people need 75 settings for traction control and IMUs is an absolute joke when 80% of the time the roads are too busy and too potholed to risk speed? Other friends NTK Explorer over £20k to buy to me that is just imbecile stuff, depreciation off scale. His depreciation last year, bought my bike. Service cost him £1200 F.......... Crazy!!! BMW is worse! Plus you have a really good chance of mechanical breakdown, overengineered as always with german stuff, massive ego trip! n its life. Over engineered ego trip. Nothing more.
So thats why my beautiful silver bandit s k9 version is still in my garage. Long may that be the case! All the joys of the open road on two wheels with performance and real enjoyment. Lets not forget BMW superheroes.....your visor gets just as wet as my Suzuki!!

I was filling up and this Guy came out of the shop he just paid for his petrol, saw me and came over. Total Stranger. His first words were...."Damn that is the exact one i have been looking for in that metallic gunmetal, will you sell it? I will give you 4k the ones i have seen are about 3.5k!" I joked with him and said i will have nothing to get home on and besides I love my Suzi she is part of the family now! the guy repeated damn looks a lovely bike, exactly what i am looking for. I told him i found it in MSN just dead lucky, it was in St Arvans nr Chepstow, it was meant to be?
Another reason i wont sell it.
Even now when i take it to my workshop in Bristol the guys all say - Bulletproof never seen that engine out on the bench not ever. Had the MOT and the guy said looks fantastic for its age Andy if you want to sell it let me know - one of the mechanics. It really is that pretty. I love the look of the Bandit, the Frame/Design looks quite British, more traditional although the front fairing is quite sharp and natty. Has brilliant daylights as well really visible. Not a lot i don't like about my bandit.
Last funny story, my battery got run down in the garage during Covit. When i got her out, not happy at all. Took the battery out charged it up. Went to start - dead! nothing at all! OMG Suzi what the hell have i done big red light on dash err message - see main dealer. I thought OMG phoned my man jim and got it transported to the workshop. about two hours later he phoned me "are you sat down andy?, i said yes oh god what is it Jim? he said "Your Suzi though she was upside down and the engine cutoff was on, some bright spark put the tilt sensor in upside down! big laugh on the phone...Jim said also the fuel octane had gone way too low and could have caused damage so it worked out well Andy. i flushed it out filled her up she is perfect again, i will charge you for the petrol mate!" laughed again and put the phone down!
Another Bandit Tale!! by an incompetant mechanic!! My guys in Bristol are Fantastic a brilliant bunch what they dont know aint worth knowing about Bikes.

Got a Mk1 from 1996 love the bike if you can find one that’s in good condition I’d definitely recommend it but don’t buy one that’s been messed around otherwise you’ll be in a world of trouble.

Mine was in great condition before I sold it. I replaced the tank and plastics with a kit that was in dry storage for 20+ years. Got seals done, etc. It was a mistake getting rid of it.
It was my first big bike so I didn't appreciate how good it was. I didnt know better.

Thankfully I watched it to see how you could ever slag a bike off like the Bandit, and truthfully I was near to stopping watching it cos the reasons seemed foolish and shallow at best. THEN you started on the reasons for having one and it made my day (easily pleased) personally at 63 I like a bit of protection now from the wind blast of a long ride out, so I say the half fared 1250. Why? Number one the engine, number 2 the engine, 3and 4 engine still. Then the lovely seat, riding position and low speed handling. I wish the clutch was lighter but eh? What a classic bike

Don't buy a bandit based on a 6? Get a clean 12 and have fun, simple to work on and parts everywhere. It's a muscle bike not a sport or touring bike. Best suited to a play bike or base for a street fighter. Even a old 96 model gives most sports bike a hard time and there's something about a naked bike and trying to hold on! Don't knock em till ya rode one 😅 cheap simple fun bike with loads of tuning potential still 😁

Don't buy a 1200 Bandit either. Reason 1 : it is addictive. The rocket booster (or carrier launch catapult) feeling is not something you can easily forget...
Reason 2 : straight portions of the roads are disappearing. As soon as you open the throttle...it's already time for breaking in the next turn.
Reason 3 : the best of all of them is not available anymore : it's in my garage!

I ride dirt bikes and I ride road bikes, I’m in the market for an older bike as I ride a 600 beefed up hornet… I came here looking for advice and I hear this: ‘it’s not very good off road’
Can you tell me as a dirt bike rider, why I would swap out a yz or WR for a bandit road bike.
And as a road bike rider, can you tell me why I would want to know about its off road capabilities?

Your reasons don't make sense. It wasn't built to be the best at anything - it was just built to be a good all-around bike. Right off the bat a reason not to buy it is it isn't good off-road? Duh. It's a road bike... built to look like a sport bike but standard riding position. You then say a reason for is the power delivery and sound, and the look, which is exactly why to buy it. BTW, the Bandit 400 is a screamer and you didn't differentiate. I have both a Bandit 400 and a SV650 because I like naked sports bikes and I plan to keep them forever - even though I have standing offers from local dealers because you cannot find Bandit 400s or Honda CB1 400cc very easy any more, and they are a blast.
