@@UltraEnergizetechnically it doubles speed, not 2+, but yeah unless you're using DD or agility under tailwind (which doesn't really make sense to do) it's the same thing

Tailwind isn't as viable in singles as in doubles, and there are several things Shiftry gets in sun that it doesn't with Wind Rider: Potential extended speed boost since Sun can be extended with Heat Rock, single-turn Solar Blade, boosted Synthesis recovery if you choose to run it, and a boost to fire coverage in Weather Ball over Heat Wave. I do think Wind Rider is better, but Chlorophyll isn't entirely inferior
In VGC, Wind Rider is clearly the better ability. Chlorophyll doesn’t give immunities and a lot of wind based moves are common spread moves that it would otherwise die to. It’s defensive stats are not conducive to taking any kinds of hits so the ability to blank certain attacks is invaluable to its survival.

Reminded of Sneasel and Weavile never getting Razor Wind despite apparently being based on what Razor Wind draws inspiration from. But I guess it's not a huge loss because Razor Wind has always been an utterly awful move.

tailwind being a +1/+2 setup move that also sets up for its teammates if shiftry decides to switch out or gets knocked out is actually really nice

Shiftry also gets Trailblaze now, which I guess isn't saying a lot because it's learned by basically everything ever, but Grass STAB that gives +1 Speed sounds pretty nice on SD sets

This is how you keep a pokemon relevant. The ability alone makes him useful. They don't have to do a whole new mechanic but 1 ability that pairs well with them. I wish pressure would be updated to lower speed though

This really gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, Meganium will get a buff of some kind. I don't need it to be good in OU, but NU or PU should quake in fear of my baby.
I am loving the fact the Game Freak is looking at older Pokémon and giving them much needed buffs. This is a brilliant idea and I really hope it carries on going forward! Some Pokémon are close to greatness but just lack one little thing to make them stand out in their respective meta, and this is huge for Shiftree. Setting its own Tailwind + raising attack is gonna allow it to sweep & support it's own team! It's hardly gonna be OU or anything like that, but I can DEFINITELY picture it having dominance over the lower tiers / mid tiers like RU. Fantastic work Game Freak!

Absolutely love theyre giving some old pokemon some love, torterra has forever been my favorite pokemon, just the concept of an entire ecosystem on its back is just so cool to me and thry gave it some good buffs. Im happy for everyone else getting buffs for there favorites as well.
Thick Fat, Horn Leech and Dragon Dance would be awesome on Torterra

Thank goodness for that. Shiftry is a rather underrated Dark type in general. Tengus already being one of my favorite yokai is a plus.

I used this in OU and in sun, this thing with solar blade and a live orb tears everything apart, ESPECIALLY with a swords dance up too.
They need to give more pokemon The Masquerain buff ie 40-80bst increase

Brambleghast is flimsy as a twig but was carried by its powerful ability Wind Rider alone.
I feel like yanmega is really good, tinted lens allows it to hit foes for neutral instead of resisted hits, even if the opponent terastalyzes.
I have a feeling if Smogon keeps up with the balance patches, we're going to see Shiftry in Showdown a lot.
loving the old gen love in this dlc. This needs to be a standard. I think that these buffs aren't gonna make Shiftry take over OU, but grass dark stab with all that utility can definitely give it some kind of niche and definitely bump it up to UU/RU potentially.
Hell yeah, this pokemon always had a cool design, but for it to be given a complete overhaul, hot DAYUMN! Now I can make a viable ghoul theme looking pokemon team. This franchise is so simple but complex in it's game mechanics 💀🚬.
This makes me exceptionally more receptive to Dexit. If they actually go back and tweak these older mons it gives a reason for the staggered release (ignoring that they could still add the dexited mons with no changes)
This is why I think Pokemon is one of the few titles that could benefit from a live service model. Taking the time to not only create new Pokemon, but to adjust older ones and release them over time instead of all prior to launch. This helps keep players interested by new drops, events and changes to the meta. Making a single game per console generation and filling it in over time would also go a long way in improving the quality of these games overall.
I'm glad that they did this instead of making some regional version with all the buffs

Nah screw gen3 nostalgia, sorry but Brambleghast is _way_ better for its purpose (soley Offensive tech) and looks 100x cooler than the Grumpy Twig who will get munched by any Fighter.
Brambleghast unboosted, 360 Atk and still Outspeeds Breloom and immune to its STAB moves. Heh. 💫

Shiftry is one of favorit grass pokemon to be honest. I'm happy with the major buff

The time when gamefreak finally realized a lot of grass moves are basically a wind magic and some grass types are actually a master of wind
i don’t think it was the intention, but the Zapdos mention was a nice callback to the PMD Rescue Team games, in which Zapdos absolutely bodies a Shiftry. how the tables have turned.

Or Mightyena evolving into a werewolf-themed Pokemon. Maybe make make it a Dark/Fighting Type.
Or how about both Volbeat and Illumise? Volbeat could've evolve into a Bug/Electric Type, while Illumise could've evolved into a Bug/Fairy Type.
Ariados could've had another evolution, while maintaining it's Bug/Poison Type.
And countless other possibilities.
