Excellent video! From Australia years ago, I travelled on one of the (bubble?) railcar three car sets along the main western line in between going to Newquay/Gunnislake/Looe and so on. It raced along!
Living on Southern metals, didn't get to experience these very often. We, of course had our own unique diesels in the "Thumpers",which we rode fairly often in the Hastings/ New Romney area. Seeing a 12 car DEMU on the Charing Cross route was an impressive (and noisy) sight!
Wonderful stuff, thanks Nick. Certainly a lot of memories, particularly of the early 60s travelling to school from Hinckley to Leicester on a Monday morning... the return journey on a Friday afternoon always seemed so much better! The odd exception was the very occasional large tank hauled 'real train' replacing the DMU on the Monday trip. Prior to this I hadn't appreciated that the early DMUs and railcars dated from the 50s, not the 60s. I liked the sense of humour behind the 'Wirksworth Thunderbolt'. I am also reminded of the time at Rugby when I wondered how the DMU with Walsall as the destination was going to get to Poland... such was my talent for geography! Kind regards, Bob.
It was an average 5 or 6 car class 101 metrotrain limited stopping! Forty two years ago! Blue and white carriages! Beautiful florescent lights! Mum and i loved em! Much better than the dirty old man blue trains with UFO style lampshades and little tungsten bulbs -- class 104 scruffs!
AS GROW UP IN 60S WE USE NOW CROSS RAIL TO BIRMINGHAM OR TO LICHFIELD BEFORE LINE WAS , NOW USING NOW ELECTRIC TRAINS , MY FAVOURITE WAS MCW BODYWORK ,ANOTHER ENJOY THE TRAINS AND VIDEO CLIP BRING BACK HAPPY MEMORIES ,PLANNED RETURN VISITED WHEN THINGS GET BACK NORMAL
Nice video 👍 I like diesel railcar very much. Unfortunately, when I went there last November, I didn't have a chance to see the diesel railcar running.

Very comprehensive, well done .Thank you
Thank you Michael!
Spent a lot of my Life in the 70s commuting on DMUs. And my home over-looked a Depot. Brings it all back. Proper Trains with a proper noise.
Nick always enjoy your videos thanks so much for taking the time to post
Thank you Donald!
Express train Blackpool to Manchester during August 1978! 5.40pm! Took it twice with my mother! Sat near the exhaust pipe! Dinosaur on laxatives!
