It’s been five years of listening to this song, and on the latest listen I just realized it’s about David Bowie. His last album was “Blackstar,” where he sings about all the types of “stars” he was, plus he sung about space a lot, and this song is Vinny telling him that his star hasn’t faded even with him gone. The synth aspects, the spacey sound, the moaning vocals (which Bowie also did on his last album) all match up with this. Then I came here to read the comments and realized it was uploaded on the one year anniversary of Bowie’s death, which confirmed it for sure. It adds a lot of weight to the last part, with Vinny singing so emotionally about not wanting to be stranded here. Now it makes sense why a song about space sounds so emotional as a whole.
A little something more, Vinny first heard this song in a dream the night Bowie died. He woke up and recorded a demo immediately (available on the Another Light demos album on Bandcamp.)
I saw the mention of Bowie and immediately it made sense to me... but I didn't make the connection to Blackstar. Honestly i thought it's cos Bowie was always widely regarded as being "from another place", like some other musicians in history that were lost before their time (Jimi springs to mind)
I know that this song has nothing to do with what I'm about to talk about. But, my mother lost her fight to bone marrow cancer after 10 years, 2 weeks ago. The song as a whole really relates to my situation and how I feel right now.
This song reminds me of my late grandpa. He loved the stars and was a very successful astronomer, among many other things. He pretty much dedicated his life to the stars and teaching others about it with everything he did. It's because of him I'm as enthralled by space as I am. I imagine he's up in the stars now, traveling around the universe. His wisdom still works its magic on me and will for years to come. The fire burns, although the spark is gone. I think this song channels him perfectly. I miss him very much.
Whenever you do that rough forceful voice in your songs (like what you do in the end), it really ties the song together and gives it some awesome raw emotion. Even though it probably kills your voice, I just wanted to say it's really awesome man. Keep up the great work.
and aforementioned lead singer has been recorded playing a shitty plug and play drumming rhythm game with two bright red dildos live to an audience of thousands
I'm upset by the fact that I associate alot of Red Vox and this particular song with a job I really hated because I was just, utterly depressed and was really getting into Red Vox at the time. I replayed this particular song a whole lot and now it just reminds me of leaving the store after long ass closing shifts that were just an absolute pain in the ass to deal with.
I really like this, the sound does sound a lot more spacey and stuff and the ending was great. Instrumental was amazing but vinny your vocals fucking killed it, you are really good at singing.

i imagine its nothing to do with the intent and probably just me projecting personal experiences, but for me this song reminds me alot of a very subtley toxic relationship. the eerie notes under the "positive" lyrics and a few lyrics that stick out abit, give this feeling to me like the speaker of the song is too dependant on the person he's speaking too, with expectations that are too high and the victim is struggling with burnout and the withdrawl of affections when they stop preforming. "the less you show the more you disappear" "the fire burns all though the spark is gone" "burn like a star and then you disappear". and it ends with a slightly manic collapse as the victim stops giving into the expectations.

Mike’s playing and Joe’s mixing and processing of them is impeccable. The sound of the drums on Red Vox are always roomy but boomy.
