closet declutter 2023, closet organization, thrift with me, thrift haul 2023 - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
come for the decluttering, stay for the descent into madness 🙃
I REALLY need to declutter and "arrange" my closet and I would love if I could hire you to ruthlessly evaluate and winnow my HUGE wardrobe of every size, every color, every season (of which I currently wear about 3 outfits). I have a whole ROOM full of clothing that's so disorganized it's a chore to find something to wear every day .... I have my work cut out.
"But wait!!! Maybe I'll get skinny again ... I can't throw THAT out!!! Hey, that' ugly but the most comfortable thing in the world...."
You see my dilemma .....
@@SherryAnnOfTheWest it’s a daily struggle!!! I honestly find it so difficult to stay organized haha I feel your pain 🥹
My family has been going through my grandma and my aunt's things since they've passed and I think Kathleen would like some items. So if you see this Kathleen let me know so I can get in contact!
@@SherryAnnOfTheWest What I do is putting the things I don't wear in one place, just whenever you come across such a piece when looking for an outfit,- (for me it's at the top of my closet which I can't reach without a stool, or throwing the things up there). After a couple of months or so that place gets full and then I do a declutter of that pile of clothes only. This means I only have to go through the stuff that has been out of my sight for months, which makes it easier to get rid of for me. I usually keep some of those things but only to get rid of it later.
For things that don't fit you but "you might get skinny again", I'd suggest putting all of those clothes in one box, so you can still have them but not have to see them on a daily basis. Things that are ugly but comfortable just go into my "house outfits" category.
Generally creating more niche categories within my closet and putting away things I don't wear one piece at a time is what helps me.
Likes first, watching later 🎉
I would definitely watch a video of you going through your shirts, sweaters, shoes, and accessories - honestly, you’re such a joy to watch, I can’t imagine any video of yours being boring!!
me too, definitely!
Second this 💯
Came here to say this!
I want to comment the exact same thing 😁
YEP!
Kathleen: "you look really nice today, :)"
me, sitting in my unmade bed, having not brushed my teeth/washed my face yet: omg thanks
Me too! 🤭
Well!!!! It’s true!!!
hahaha same here
Me sitting here in sweats and a neck brace. Genuinely made me feel better!
Same here, plus I‘m sick. Still made me smile 😊
I just did a cleanout last week and I kept saying over and over "someone else is going to love this! someone else is going to love this!" it helped. I hate getting rid of shit!
Now you're in the groove. I bet there are a bunch more things around your house that others would love. Round 'em up and move 'em out. You'll help others and feel lighter over the summer. Congratulations!
All of my decluttering items go to a small non profit in my town that provides clothing and other goods to foster kids and families. It helps me to let go of more knowing that it will help out someone else who really needs clothing and accessories and toiletries.
I love that long purple skirt on you!
I think what we are up against: it makes us feel like we've failed sometimes especially if it's an item that's hardly worn. Like when we originally brought that prized item home, we imagined it would change our lives for the better. But it didn't. Instead of feeling betrayed by the item, we feel that it's we who have let the item down. This is a weird way in which the materialism is still dominating our brains, even when the item was second hand.
I also have this thing of trying to see the upside in an item regardless of whether it is really 'me'. Probably from having grown up with hand-me downs. If it's not really me, I'm not going to wear the freaking thing, and the last thing you want is more of that having an argument in your wardrobe because those things compete for your attention. Also orange is the most annoying colour. It just is.
But still such items create feelings of failure in me. It's like: "why didn't I try to like you more??" or "Why didn't I fix you?"
When this is happening I remind myself that my lifestyle has changed, I've changed. Or I was dressing for a fantasy life that doesn't really happen especially during lockdowns.
Also the things that once really glowed on me now can look irrelevant or tired, or we're both tired.
It's like when you're really young you can wear things ironically, like it's humorous. but then you become the joke if you're not careful as if you're still linked to that lost youth.
It's a tricky business. I had a load of retro 1970s stuff that I wore and wore and wore. But the time came to realise it wasn't glowing on me anymore and I looked like I was chasing something in the past. Someone else younger than me. is enjoying them and looking fabulous and asking themselves: "how could anyone get rid of this item?" I had a dark brown preppy 1970s style cardigan it was so so good the quality of the wool was so fabulous it looked new everytime I washed it. If I wore it now I'd look tragic. I need help these days, not irony! lol
Also I am not a standaard size so I have to buy new with some things I'm too tall to get stuff reliably in thrift stores. What I do is try to make those things last. If you buy the best quality you can afford (in sales if you can) then you get the best value and have the least environmental impact.
I've got things I've had for decades. I want to lecture younger people about these principles of buying good quality because as you get older you need quality it makes you feel good and it becomes like an old friend.
Another thing is reminding myself of my massive wins. Like a black mohair hand knit sweater an old housemate gave me his mother knitted it. Every winter I wear the freaking thing and it's fantastic. It goes really well with a lime green woollen pair of leggings that are ribbed and thick. They are amazing together and I wear tights under the leggings when it s really cold. I got those woollen leggings for $20 new at a market sale in Sydney decades ago. I clearly recall my friend reeling in horror, but she lived to regret her words. Lime green is almost a neutral. Or it is in my wardrobe. Now I've got a leather 1980s jacket with wide sleeves so the thick mohair sweater can poke out!! Bonus. The sweater lives on. I have to find a replacement for the leggings they're wearing out. Got some from Uniqlo in a Marni collaboration, on sale of course. $19. They've got horizontal thick stripes that are supposedly on the way out, but not in my skinny world!!
Nothing like the energy of a closet clear out. Walking around in your undies, sweating your guts out, getting mad at shirts, talking to your blazers...
I hardly throw stuff out because I have tended to buy quality and from sales or preloved. Probably have too much stuff but I rotate things and shop my own wardrobe. Altering buttons taking things in. I was pleasantly surprised when a few items turned out to be white, not cream coloured. They were just shop-soiled! It's also fun trying to alter your wardrobe. I iike to get it all out and try different combos. But on the other hand sometimes I think should get just get rid of that thing and give up on certain things that hang around. What stops me is how shoddy most clothes are now. It's been in decline for decades but really bad now. Especially knits. They're awful. I celebrate woollen and natural fibres. JIMO..sorry for the rant.
That growing DIY pile is so relatable, every time I declutter I just end up being like "no yeah I can sew this to look cute!" and then I never do.
One really helpful tip: Put everything on hangers backward in your closet then, once you wear the item and hang it up again, you can flip it around. After a year, anything that is still hanging backward goes because you've had a full year of seasons to wear the item, and you still haven't. It's also a helpful visual reminder that if you want to keep something, but you're getting to the end of the year or the end of a season, then you better figure out an outfit with it otherwise, you won't have it anymore. The exclusion for this rule is generally fancy dress or event clothing because you can go a year without an excuse to wear such an item. But everything else, jackets, pants, skirts, shirts, everything still hanging backward goes.
My mum and my husband just died and your videos just act like a ray of sun breaking through my gloom. Please know that you touch people in the best way that you don't even realise and keep being you and doing what you do. Thankyou lovely soul and thrift sister ❤
Friend, I am so so sorry for your losses. I know those words don’t fix anything, but I’m really glad you’re taking refuge here. Please take care - sending you the biggest, biggest hug ❤️🩹
So sorry you have such great losses. Please take care of yourself and I hope something happy happens for you soon.
it is my dream to watch a closet cleanout that's like 4 hours long and they go through literally every piece of clothing.
I thought you'd like to know I was telling my partner "all of her videos look so appealing and I really like her aesthetic and I'm getting overwhelmed that I wanna watch all of them"
and he very nicely responded with "it's ok you can take your time watching them all"
Aw! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying your time watching. Take your time, enjoy the wild ride ☀ and GOOD LUCK 🍀
OMG I would be all over your Depop if you posted your "thank you for your service" pieces!
More declutters please!! Do the shoes!! Do the sweaters!! Do it all!! You're entertaining so I'd watch another long declutter.
I clicked on this so fast gonna undo the dishwasher now
woohoo!!! hope you have a great day
Ahhh! That was a super fun, chaotic, closet cleanout! Thank you for taking the time to edit down 2 days worth of footage so we could join you!
Omg yes I would love watching more closet decluttering.
It matters not what one does, it's the chaos energy they bring to their task that brings me joy.
Please remember you can break up your mending pile into more manageable chunks! 3-5 pieces (or sets) at a time would be visually interesting to watch imo, though you can do more or less depending on how much of a roll you're on and how you feel like editing it- just try to make sure there's at least one easy win in each pile, it helps with sanity.
"These pants make me so sad... I bet I could press new pleats into here, but we both know I will never do that-- We're keeping 'em!" Not where I thought that was going but good for you Kathleen. And you didn't tell us if you were keeping the red dress that makes you mad.
Also I love that shiny green cropped blazer you're getting rid of! You styled it in a video one time and I remember it being one of the pieces that really stood out to me.
Great video once again, we were spoiled with so much Kathleen in a longer format!
i’ve been needing that extra lil push to finally actually go through everything and actually try them on 😂😂😂 thank you 💖
I would watch a part 2 with the rest of the closet!!
Every video of yours feels like I’m hanging out with the coolest, chillest friend!
I would honestly happily watch you declutter anything, like it could be that weird drawer in your kitchen that has too many spatulas (everyone has that right?)
Please also do a t-shirt, sweater, shoe... declutter video! This was fun to watch! I should taccle my wardrobe and do a declutter myself, ´caus I keep on thrifting 😂
Scully is actually a historical/western-wear company that is still making those pants. They retail for about $85, so that's an amazing find!
Omg Beepworld and Kathleen on one day???? Truly #blessed
anything 4 you!
First, I totally relate as a fellow thrifter. Sometimes I realize I have more outfits than places to go as I'm rather introverted. But second, the Ungaro jacket! I remember when you thrifted it and how jealous I was. Are you selling it?
I thrifted a vintage “cocktail dress” literally a mini dress with cocktails embroidered on it just to wear to a party. There are no parties after covid. Maybe I should host one just for the dress
This was fun! Bodycon might not be your style but the chocolate brown dress looks fantastic on you.
Also I just wanted to say thanks for the Parade endorsement last week, my undie drawer was very sad and empty and it was honestly Beyond Time to treat myself to nice underthings, and so far I've been really pleased! I am in fact wearing the swirly bra top right now and I love it.
Oh yayay I’m so pleased to hear that! Swirly bras unite!! And thank you for watching & hyping me up 💖💃🏻
I loooove that dress at 15:20, I've always been a goodwill girl, but after moving to Arizona I discovered Savers, which has had some AMAZING finds at it including this impossibly cute hombre glittery blue/turquoise dress that I've been dying to wear out to dinner with my wife. Excited to go to savers again soon, still looking for that dream peter pan shirt 🥺
aaa I would like to watch you declutter and talk about the clothes/shoes. it's super calming and inspires me to also clean stuff :D
Totally down for a Closet Purge 2: Electric Boogaloo (if you feel like filming it!) Also love the idea of the "Mass alterations" video; those sorts of vids really help me get inspired to tackle my mending/alterations pile 😅
Just a note on the black layering piece-- Seam rip the bottom ruffle off, then move up unti; it's even with the bottom of the body of the dress. Then attach at that level. Shorter dress, no cutting, extra floof.
Or, if the seam ripping will damage the material, just fold up the ruffle, and cut right above the seam. Smooth line, and you won't lose much fabric.
I'm glad you have advice cause I got nervous when she said she wanted to cut it up! It looks like a slippery fray-y fabric!!
This motivated me to declutter my wardrobe and try to rehome old pieces
for the wrap dress a hook and eye is great for keeping the skirt closed! Also bias tape would work well for creating a channel in the black skirt. Sometimes you can get it in fun colours or make it from fabric you like so you get the texture or pattern you'd like if you want to put the channel on the outside.
I love thrifting bias tape whenever I can find it: there was a time when it was (gasp) 100% cotton!
@@rochelle2758 I was lucky enough to inherit my Oma's sewing stuff so there was a ton of cotton bias tape and other goodies that I treasure!
okay, but that brown maxi dress looks INCREDIBLE on you
I love that it turned into a closet appreciation. I have limited closet space, so I am constantly forgetting what's hidden in the depths, but I love when I rediscover old favorites and they still fit. I also have a fix it pile growing by the day. I thought I only had 3 bins in my studio (one of them is things to dye) and no, it was 5. Five whole butt bins. I wish I had space for a "to be worn" rack! It's such a good idea! Hmmm, need to get rid of my donation pile first...and talk to my husband...yeah, I'm getting a rack. :) I alos really love the tank you're wearing in day 2, it's so cute!
Kathleen: "You look pretty today!"
Me, on day two of an awful summer cold: "Fanks."
The black, thin-strapped dungarees (with a shirt underneath) are incredible! 😍 The hot pink floral set! I'm in love!
I have such a weakness for white button-downs that when you started tossing them onto the no pile I flinched 😂
Would love a part two of sweaters, t-shirts etc 😃 Also, the striped trousers you wore in the second half of the video looked so comfy! ❤
This was so satisfying! I'm a relatively new subscriber so getting a closet cleanout/try on feels kinda like a recap episode. I am super nosy about other closets so you going through the rest of your stuff sounds like a really good time!
I use Poshmark but I'll put my vote in for Depop since it feels more intuitive and better for interesting or vintage pieces (though I haven't tried Whatnot yet- it seems like it'd be a great option for sellers but the whole limited drop buy now vibe I can't get into.)
Ma’am I just wanna say you have absolutely incredible vibes, and I will be listening to you during my closet purge today
🫡 best of luck to you! Thank you!
1:13 As a first time viewer the " you look really nice today" made me smile 😊
The joker walk haha 😂 yesss. Thanks for another fun video! I am going to watch it again while i organize and decluttering my closet.
came for the satisfying clean out - stayed for your amazing personality! i felt so comfortable listening to your "rambling"
I know you don’t normally do these types of videos but I would be really interested to know your hair routine! Your hair looks amazing!
hi thank you so much!! i'm working on getting some coupon codes to share with y'all for the products i use and then i totally will!!!!
Can we do a fashion challenge where we all wear our clothes that we never wear? 😂
Can you do a video going through all your graphic t-shirts, jumpers, shoes, bags & jewellery? And another video with your before & after alterations pile? Fanxxxx ❤👍
The sadness with which you said, "I've never been to camp" really made me get you in a lovely way
!!!! it's never too late - maybe this summer is my summer-camp-summer!
The Art Aunt Ms Frizzle aesthetic speaks to me. The Florida floral set speaks to me. The buttons! The contrasting pockets! Vest maxi skirt combo!
Your videos make me smile every time... People call me Ms. Frizzle a lot so that part made me super happy as well! Also... I know you're not a bodycon girl, but you looked freaking fantastic in it, and there are always kimonos so you still feel like an art aunt, that's how I do it! Lol... Never stop being your fabulous self! 💖
The perfect ending to the perfect video. A little song to send us on our way to a great day.
Kathleen, I’d love to see a video of you doing some mending from your death pile. Even if it’s basic stuff like fixing a tear or doing a hem.
That surprise serenade made me want to cry it was so dang cute! 🥲❤️
LOVE the fan dress 👽 and the ultra wide leg trousers 🤩- also the idea of embroidering the little flowers over the stains? Genius ✨️ I just learned about tambour embroidery- can't wait to add this to my skillset! Loved the tour of your closet and definitely longform vid is ok with me 🦋🙃
Would personally love a mend/tailoring type video if you are so inclined. Also any and all decluttering videos - I definitely dig the long and chatty ones. Fairly new subscriber and am really enjoying my stay here so far!
Yes please.
Pro tip for wrap dresses or anything you want to keep in place: use a safety pin and start using it on the inside. Take it through just a couple of threads of the top peice of fabric to make sure it's not visible, and then close it. I usually only need to use one or two depending on the garment and viola! It stays in place with no fuss. I use this all the time for scarfs and wraps too so I don't have to worry about them getting unstyled or flying away in the wind.
When I come to TH-cam I'm generally looking for long form content so I greatly enjoyed this!
Here’s to ( thrifted) closet appreciation!
For the wrap dress, I recommend bike shorts underneath! It’s what I do and then I don’t have to worry about any of the ties coming undone or the bottom part of the skirt flapping about
You're so inspiring, watching your videos feels like I'm hanging out with my quirky cousin and I'm like "oh yeah i should do that too huh"
the plaid set AHH 😍
AHHHH indeed!!!! 🤍🖤
Yesssss i am so excited to watch this
Closet clean outs are very satisfying 😊
Shoes! Sweaters! Everything!
I'm late, but I loved every second of this. You've found some truly amazing pieces and I'm here for the closet appreciation! I need to do a closet cleanout, but I'll have to settle for a seasonal change out. I'm not strong enough to let anything go just yet. Still holding onto "maybe, maybe, maybe..."
The white dress with embroidered flowers is my favorite one!! 😊
I would love to see you go through your tshirts, sweaters, shoes, accessories etc! Loved this video!❤️
Oh my gosh you're so funny I was laughing throughout the whole video, I love how you appraise each outfit 😂 You could definitely have a second career as a comedian!
Love the idea of grabbing out the absolute favs first and then going from there.
That cropped plaid blazer with the floral print trim, oh my god I love it 😅 also this inspired me to declutter! Thank you!
The “fruit set” (the picnic joke) is amazing on you. Omg thrift-queen.
You also have a great sense of styling by body form.
That’s my struggle.
That black leather pleated mini is sooooooo cute!
The pleated skirt fit you soooooo well!
I'm dying for the blue dress with the giant shoulder ! 🔥
Yes!! I love seeing people's closets, plus yours is full of such beautiful vintage goodies. (You've given me with confidence to go through my own now 😅)
Love the Brady Bunch Island Adventure!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Would totally watch a decluttering of tees, sweaters & shoes!
Came for the Kathleen, stayed for the guest Skinamarinkidinkidink vocalist... LOVED. IT. ALL.
okay but that blue dress was so POWERFUL
It's not boring Kathleen!!!!!
Your home is amazing it's so cozy and literally you 🤎
Thanks to you, I am now obsessed with SETS. You have great set collection!
Girllll I love your style whaaaat??? 🤍
Yessssss!!! Speaking of little fan girl moment.. I love you Kathleen! 👏
You are officially one of my comfort youtubers, thank you for brightening my day :)
This was DELIGHTFUL ❣️
Loved the closet clean out and loved the impromptu serenade and really looking forward to the mending/alteration vid!!
Using this as motivation to clean out my closet with a no mercy no maybes mindset!
I don't have a favorite platform, but I loved that pale blue button front dress. Your videos bring joy.
Patiently waiting for the shop to drop
never get rid of anything silk and wear that chocolate brown body con looks great on you!
omg im so excited
as soon as i saw the ungaro blazer i was like :O... i need it. i am not really familar with online second-hand shopping since i thrift in person mostly!! these videos and your vibes are so lovely and i appreciate these videos because it helps me to realize things i should look for when decluttering!
As someone that mostly wears shoes, sweaters, and tshirts, I absolutely want to see you go thru those!
Oh spirit animal We rise 💜🙏🫶
Such an important process! Thanks for sharing yours! ❤
I grew up going to Sanibel Island/Captiva every summer with my dad's side of the family. It's such an adorable, chill place for vacation!
Loved this video! Your wardrobe is incredible and is encouraging me to explore more of my own style.
I love your sense of style!! If you did a what not sale I would love that!!!
Listening to you is motivating me to do literally everything i need to do for like the whole week. Thank you, you’re awesome
Was not expecting the Toledo shoutout! I love house of dow!!
watching this while doing some embroidy on a thrifted pair of pants
adored this video, can't wait for the diy death pile next week!!
Omg *pants* WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR YELLOW CLUELESS JACKET AND YOUR GREEN LACOSTE GREEN TENNIS DRESS?!!! The absolute chokehold these items have had on me since seeing your videos YOU HAVE BETTER KEPT THEM!!!!! Also I love closet clean outs or organizations so I will watch them all at any length, bring on the tees and sweaters!
I have really gleaned onto cleaning my closet once a month (when my disability does not get in the way). It makes me happy knowing someone else will probably love. I have some basics I dont get rid of and also some staples I clutch in my cold arthritic hands. I love closet cleanouts.
