      Thanks for your help. I'm 65, started a lot more walking so things flaring up. I'm binge watching on the topic. I think your channel offers the best insights for me as I'm very low budget. I have these problems so your common sense instructions offer me solutions I can apply. My goal is to get more flexible in ankle, calf and etc ASAP as I've just bought some roller skates 🥳 to change up a bit from walking and that's going to be a lot of fun with proper slow warm ups and sensible beginners practice ... now that I see I can get improvement/relief in my one sore foot. Big thank you. You're really helping me and I'm totally excited 🤩 lol. I'm subbed so in a couple months I'll comment again, say, around late July. Cheers from Australia

      My husband has super long second toes wheee his distal tip rotates to bend around the third toe. His toes are so long that the mallet toe (varus) rotates at the distal joint. The adjacent third toe ENDS at the distal joint of the second toe.
      Hie is a daily runner and those toes form damage nails which turn purple, until they fall off, and then new nails start growing again. His third and fourth toenails also fall off,but they are nothing compared to the second toes. He doesn’t have any bunions but he does have history of plantar fascitis and IT band syndrome issue a dflat feet / pronation.

    I'm amazed. I taped the second toe on both my feet. The 2nd toe pain on the right foot was so bad I could hardly walk, and that toe was swollen. As soon as I taped and iced it, it started to feel better. I started doing the exercises, and they are helping too. I have a bunion on my left foot too, so I taped the second toe on it as well. I have not had cramping in either foot for two days now. I'm very hopeful and telling everyone. I may still see a podiatrist, but I am so grateful for the instant relief. Thank you

      I've been taping my big toe and 2nd toe together also and have found it helps a lot. I also put a silicon spacer between those two toes (before taping). I play as much tennis as I can so my feet take a pounding. My tennis shoes don't have the boxy toe area that I would normally be able to buy from New Balance. Anyways, do you get any kind of burning sensation on that 2nd toe (bottom joint)? On the top part of the foot. There are occasions when the burning pain is nasty bad. It doesn't last long but I could do without that garbage. I don't know if it is capsulitis, or Morton's or what...? Go in to see podiatrist when I get back to Canada.

    Hi Dr.
    I am a pediatric dentist. I had my podiatrist correct L foot hallux rigidus/hallux valgus. My second toe was a hammer toe. He placed an implant to straighten the toe.
    After the surgery (4.5 months ago) my second toe was elevated from the mtp and stuck up at about a 30 degree angle. My doctor had me tape it to bring it down but that did not help and actually there was an open sore that continues even now, distal to the mtp joint/on top of the next joint distal.
    I saw him today and he said that he probably should have done a capsulorraphy of the 2nd mtp in surgery bc the joint capsule that he hoped would stretch did not and so on Friday he will, in the office, block that toe and "loosen" the joint capsule around second mtp. The end of that toe has gradually turned down again so that it is a mallet. He said to fix that he would cut the ligament on the plantar aspect of the most distal portion of that 2nd toe.
    Q: Does this make sense and does his proposed treatment seem reasonable?
    I am in Iowa and would like to see you for analysis of my other foot as I have frankly lost trust in my podiatrist, who I knew as we operated in same facility.
    Thank you for your consideration of this long diatribe 😊..RW

    Dear Dr. Tom Biernacki about 1 month ago I did something really stupid I decided to get on my rogue assaul fitness bike with my crocs and exercise on it i did x 2 days in a row about 20 min each time, I was to lazy to put my exercise shoes had i done that i probably wound not be having the issues that i am having. it did start about 3-4 days later after that and started hurting me exclusively in my second to for sure 8/10 pain and walking in a very gimpy manner and guarding. by the 3rd or 4th week had an appointment with my md and he thought it was hammer toe. anyway I went home and decided to make an appointment with a podiatrist I have seen in the past for plantar fasciitis where i was fitted for orthotics and she gave me a shot of cortizone. This was about 4 years ago and the orthotics helped as did the shot. it got better thank god. i wear the orthotics all the time unless i walk around in crocs. so this time she did the Xrays and there were no stress fx's or fx's and she said the bones look ok. she explained to me that i belive she said the muscle peroneous brevis or some muscle? 2ndmtp was infalmed she did not dx it a friebergs or hammer toe, and when she palpated I feel like she was very gentle in doing so not some much as to increase the pain symptoms. but there is pain in the ball of the foot at present now. her treatment was for me to where solid shoes as to keep it stable, ice, and she taped the 2nd toe to the big toe and told me to do this and just let the shower take the old tape off and then replace it with new tape. she did not prescribe any narcotics she put me on nabumatome 750mg x2 / day. she did not tell me to stay off of it or to be conservative. she told me it would be 4-6 weeks to heal and get better and she was confidant that the ant- inflammatory would help. according to the research and literature it says that with the nabumatome it may take a week sometimes 2 weeks for it to start working and kick in? it has been 10 days and i can hoonestly say i am not convinced that the nambumatome is working or helping me at all, my 2nd toe looks angry, it is inflamed and in comparison to my left toe on my left side it appears 1 1/2 - 2 times bigger. I jsut dont believe the the nabumatome is strong enough? Am I just to in-patient and it has not kicked in yet? Also I have been taking 1000mg of tylenonol every 8 hours along with the nabumatome. I am a home health PT and i drive around all day getting in andout of my car but am still walking doing standing , assisting my patients and it really starts to cause pain and as mentioned i gimp around, i have to work, she didn't seem to think that I needed to be NWB or like take a day off of work she even said it was ok to exercise. I just feel like this 2nd toe is in the acute phase and when i presented it was in the acute phase. anyway i gues after this long winded Hx of this my one question is do you think this type of anti-inflamatory is strong enough? it has been 10 days and i have not seen any reduction in swelling nor pain. as you know prescribing opiods and pain pills is a hot topic, she would did not give me anything for the pain but i am aware that the nabumatome does treat both. I jsut dont think it is strong enough in concert with taking the 1000mg of tylenol> Somebody please consult me, please help? Thank you

    Wow you have it spot on, my 2nd toes on both feet started to have problems in my teens but its only until now my late 30s im starting to see the knock on affect.
    My story is complex - I have ehlers danlos syndrome, overlooked vit d for atleast 10 years, which led me to have zero vit d & ofc low calcium. During these years i became so weak i was bedbound the majority of the time, and the weight of the covers would curve my toes inwards further. Plus my autistic and i dont like the feeling of bare ground on my feet, so i use to walk on the sides of my feet. Now i have a long road ahead of me to re-align my bones & re-stretch out the ligaments :(
    Youre videos are extremely helpful though, surgery is really not an option for me...

    Side topic, but any recommendations for pinky toes which are both curved under the foot a bit? I get a lot of corns and damaged nails as the they are pointed downwards. Saw a foot doctor and said my option was surgery on both or live with it and just actively manage the corns. Do you know of any good ways to protect the pinky toes during sports (golf and basketball) as the typical gel covers I have used in Amazon all come off once the feet move around a lot. Going with wider shoes hasn't helped as the pinky toes are wrapped around and not being squished. No idea how they get this way! Thanks.

    Thanks for the explanation Dr. I had foot surgery because of Freiberg in 2008, I was 21 years old. At the time I had swelling on the joint (visible) and pain. But now my third toe is curling, why?! I did the surgery overseas and I am unable to travel to see the same doctor who did the surgery. My toe is curling like the one you show on the video but the third one. What the hell is happening?! I'd appreciate any insight. The doctor who did the surgery did say I could have further complications about 10 years on, it's been 13 years now, and I can't stop thinking if this is what it is.

    I don't know what's going on with my second toe, it's like theres too much pressure on the second middle phalanx and it radiates down into the MTP. Hard shoes are the worst (hikers are out) soft sneakers or barefoot is best. Long hikes, particularly downhill sets it off. I had orthotics but they didn't help me for this issue. Mystery!

    I’m male 67 years old, Ive had a mild version of this before and it went away within a week. However this current time it’s been with me almost a week and a half and doesn’t seem to be getting better, I’ve tried soaking it in cold/warm water with epson salt, elevating it and taking Tylenol, which doesn’t help much. I have mild kidney disease so my doctor doesn’t recommend ibuprofen!
    The pad behind my 2nd toe is very tender and hurts when I release pressure on it?
    I thought it was a gout issue but it doesn’t feel or ache like gout (trust me, I know) I’ve pretty much run out of options other than seeing a podiatrist, not sure my PC doctor can help?

      These are very complex medical problems that do require specific evaluation in both physical and imaging modalities. Please see a podiatrist near you for further evaluation.
      We really do appreciate you as a fan and we hope to bring you more detailed videos that help more in the future!

      We would love to help you with your foot and ankle problem, but a complex problem like this really does require in depth evaluation and imaging to make a proper diagnosis. We wish we could do more for you!
      We would be doing you a disservice with general advice for such an important issue. Your podiatrist or primary care doctor can likely help much more than we can in this instance.
      Thank you for watching and being a fan! We are working every day to help people with better education and information.

    the pad seems not to work for me. yes, it does take the pressure off, but I start walking "funny" and roll my foot outward which now caused the third toe to hurt. He pad was placed by the podiatrist and he also changed the placement after I complaint but it just doesn't feel right on my feet and causes me more pain. I've only had it for 10 days, so it's not a long standing problem. I'm so confused why this is not working for me (and it's definitely "just" capsulation, I had X-tray etc. done and there is nothing else going on)

    My toe started hurting today, it went from 0 to almost unable to walk. I 've been wearing these leather mocassin sandals and after watching this discovered it wasn't my toe or 3 middle toes (what it felt like) but the joint right before the 2nd toe. I used the tape for 80% relieft, I can walk again. I'm going to wear sturdy shoes. Is surgery my only opinion? I hope not.

      Get duct-tape fold the middle so it's not sticky. Put that over your toe thats the problem and under cross the tape and stick it to the bottom of your foot. you'll feel immediate relief if you did it right

    Can you get a neuroma between your big and second toe

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible but unlikely in most cases: th-cam.com/video/WUHDyoqlSjk/w-d-xo.html
      Usually it is capsulitis of the 2nd MTPJ or a stress injury.
      If possible, we would appreciate a quick and easy rating from you, and a good rating makes a BIG difference for us!

    My second toe still hurts from when I broke it over ten years ago

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We usually like to check how tight that ankle, knee and hamstring are, usually with a broken bone there is not enough physical therapy or stretching afterwards, this can lead to too much pressure on a bone that's actually healed. But at the same time it might be arthritis or improper healing.
