The activists' goal is not to convince everyone; It's to convince the select few to which their opinion does matter. My mum was a massive Harry Potter fan and was really excited for this game, sadly she passed away last October, me and my sister decided we are going to play through it for her and I'll be damned if i let some angry people try and shame me or tell me i can't play and enjoy it. If people wanna play it fine. If they don't also fine, but stop trying to shame someone for enjoying something.

That is 100% valid and all I can hope for is that people who have opinions like yours that are reasonable don't conflate all kinds of related but not 'tied to' this things regarding gender, rights, etc into this take.

Its more like ''People don't want to spend energy in finding out of they are doing something bad''. Nobody is actually being told what to do because those words have no power on you. Nobody if forcing you to not buy the game, people are simply drawing attention to what they think is a problem, and ''force'' you to pay attention to it with a opinion.
I'm just saying this because many people seem to believe (i could be wrong) that ''being told what to do'' = bad. And therefor: People should never give their opinion as to what they think someone else should do. Because we do this ALL THE TIME. We are giving our opinion ALL THE TIME on what someone else should or should not do. We do it with Andrew Tate. We do it with Logan Paul. We do it with everything.
The focus should be more on: Is the person saying i am doing something bad, correct or not? Cause THAT is what matters. Not the fact they said it.

When accusing someone of ''guilt tripping'' people sometimes use this as a way to remove themselves from any responsibility they might have in a certain thing, and blaim the messenger for making them feel guilty. BUT, with ''wokeness'' these days the guilty tripping has no other purpose and is indeed designed purely to get power and control over the other person. Its main purpose is to make someone else doubt themselves or feel guilty, and therefor gaining contorol. Its purely about control wich is how a narcissistc operate.
Wich is what wokeness is, its a tool to get power disguised as the opposite. The opposite being ''Oh i am doing this out of the goodness of my heart and moral virtue''. The fact that in this case its about tweets ''calling people out'' and not explaining WHY they are transphobic says it all. Its unproductive to begin with. Its the same as vegans saying ''if you buy meat you are a speciest''. Now, in the end i think that is true, im vegan myself. But its unproductive to say something like that because people are moved 1000 miles away from even understanding what you mean with that. To most people such a phrase just sounds silly.
But that is what i mean with ''being told what to do'' is something people use in defense for everything sometimes. You have two groups of people, roughly. The people who abuse ''guilt tripping'' purely with the focus of gaining a sense of power over someone. And people who abuse ''you are forcing your beliefs on me by giving your opinion''. Im just saying there are cases in wich people actually do might or might not have responsibility in something, like with animal cruelty, and that in those cases ''don't tell me what to do'' is used over and over again as a legit argument. Wich makes no sense. Purely because you don't like someone else giving their opinion on something you do, does not make them wrong.
SO.. again: it should be about if the person giving their opinion about your behaviour is ACCURATE or not... and it should be LESS about IF you like it or dont like it that a certain opinion is given. Thats all i meant.

Probably some of the best advice I've ever heard
I would ha e disagreed with that sentiment a decade ago. Discussion/debate is important to hash out new, good ideas and spread them. Change hearts and minds, make the world a better place. On a large scale, people's bad takes have become part of their character now. Inextricably tied to their ego. Disagreeing with them is an attack on them personally.. and, the opposing side has been dehumanized. The "others" aren't just wrong, they are evil for holding opposing views. They are a threat to the safety of others by having those ideas.
They also pick this battle because boycotting one game or one movie is so much easier to actually do than boycotting say, Walmart and it's branches. Just don't buy one videogame, or don't buy one movie ticket, there's a new ones coming out constantly to enjoy instead. If you boycott larger, much more problematic buisnesses then you make your life so much harder for it - which is why they don't do it.
So true. It would be better for them to boycott Mel Gibson and his antisemitic nonsense, but Rowling is the easier target, unfortunately, even though she is a better person than Gibson is.
That's for sure. I don't see these people actively pushing for boycotts of theme parks that have Harry Potter attractions. She's getting way more money from those than she's getting from this game. But they might want to go to a theme park someday. So better to just get mad about one game and ignore all the other ways the franchise has made her rich.

Gamers care more about the fact that this game will have the Denuvo anti-piracy software than the fact that it's based on J.K. Rowling's works.

Man I hope the game can be modded
I'm a garbage man working in NYC. The Harry Potter series got me invested in reading and books in general. Regardless of what JK has said, I just want escapism. This gives me a good chance at escapism in a world I love. Telling me Not to buy it only makes me angry and more certain about my purchase

She also follows a lot of people, literally watch any video and they can show you with evidence, she's transphobic. Thank you, I personally feel the hate J.k is justified and I hope you find the reasons yourself as well, but I feel like the Hogwarts Legacy, is unjustified, because it's just a company using the IP. I think the game company doesn't agree either with J.K. and where she stands, even most of the Harry Potter cast is very much against what she said and why they spoke against her.
That is why I'm fine with just playing the game, I wanna support the game creators,
@Alyssa Lomboy I think you have the right attitude. I mean, as a normie, it's impossible to keep track of what CEOs say and feel, Rowlings statements were just in the public eye. It starts to look like, " Let's boycott this because it's popular to do so" without caring too much about the actual statement.
The thing is that while these people may not convince anyone they are shouting at to come their side, it can push them further to the other. Which in turn gives the echo chamber on that side their justification to increase the toxicity to return the favour.
These "opposing" groups are really more in a sort of symbiosis.
My biggest take on the whole thing is this:
I read a lot of novels and stories online. In them, the authors might occasionally insert something that goes against my own views, and some even make those opposing viewpoints very prevalent. It doesn't immediately make me hate the story, and if it was a story I enjoy, I'll continue to read it. It doesn't change my opinion on the author, because I don't personally know them. All I know is they write a damn good novel, and that's enough for me.
Funny part is, nowhere in the books does Rowlings views on trans status is to be found anywhere in the books. Yet people are still bemoaning the IP as if it was a political piece.
That's fair. If the disagreement happens outside of the medium, it should have even less bearing on it.
Jk gets royalties from it and is VERY VERY active in removing trans rights so they dont want to give money to a billionair that literally wants them extinct, why is that so hard to imagine, are we wrong for not wanting to die? Wtf

@@Wolta i wait till 50% off sale mostly. alot of games drop in price REAL quick when they arent good, so i skip them, elden ring is still 40+ range, gothem knights/callisto protocol came out weeks ago, and their price is lower, really shows what game is good or isnt real quick based on pricing.
I posted the Hegelian Dialectic breakdown on the Hogwarts steam page, got like 37 awards before steam not only locked it, but nuked it out of existence lol. Wokies are just the other side of the same Hegelian Dialectic coin. Both are being used, drawn into conflict and rubbed up against eachother until nothing is left. It's also known as Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis. But basically you prop up both sides, get them to fight, destroy one another, and when nothing is left you have your pre-determined conclusion as king. Pretty sneaky, works a treat too. On a side note, ima probably play Slytherin first run, its the one I Identify the most but also Gryffindor is too basic of a choice lol :) unless the sorting hats says id fit better in Gryffindor.

As a trans women, I'm sick of seeing the people who represent me be so toxic. I enjoy Harry Potter, so I'm gonna be getting the game. There are plenty of transphobic people in the world, but I see no reason why that means I can't enjoy the things that I enjoy in life.

I say that as someone whose very first novel I read was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Had the game been announced before her outing herself as a transphobe, I could even have seen myself being excited for the game.

I'm buying it because I love games and the Harry Potter series :') I care literally 0 about what JK Rowling is doing and ultimately if im going to boycott things because there's a potential asshole involved in it or behind it then I'd never buy anything again as everything has some level of asshole behind it or involved with it.
As someone who hates JK's views, buy the game if you want. It's worth considering that most of the main characters' actors oppose her views, and I'd watch an anime that's 10x as problematic. I'm just annoyed she's a terf, I don't think buying the game makes you transphobic :/

I don't care personally if you want to play the game, and I'm not gonna label anyone as a transphobe for playing it. Even for buying it. I'm personally gonna say there's more ethical ways to play the game than buying it. Pirating the game, and giving a copy of another game by the studio away, so you still support the studio, for example.

My honest opinion... Transgender awareness is really important and people are doing a lot of good work out there. That said - there is just SO much hostile energy surrounding the topic. I'm completely supportive of LGBTQ+, but then one time when I wanted to find out what was going on with JK Rowlings (I was a bit slow getting into it) and I asked on a Discord server (that I was running, by the way, so it wasn't just random strangers I asked), I got so much hate just because I wanted to check things out for myself and not just take their word for Rowlings "being a horrible human being".
I am all for speaking one's truth and highlighting an important topic and I really do know how hard it is on non-stereotypes out there, such as transgender, but... honestly I am also appalled by the level of negativity and like, the way they just crucify you if you don't immediately agree and join the hate. I mean, then they're not better themselves? TERF people hate transgenders, and transgender people hate TERF people. I mean, what's the difference then? If you're gonna let your hate control you like that? How is it that I am a supporter of LGBTQ+ and I still am hated for saying one wrong word, or wanted to put my mind to things before casting an opinion?
I'll be honest, it really did bother me finding out how these people react, not saying all are like that (of course not), but apparently there are many and there's a Lot of hate going on. I have a longtime friend who is trans and she nearly ended our friendship because I refused to boycott the game for her. I think there’s an online trans community that creates a big feedback loop and they start to think their viewpoint is the only one that is reasonable. Life is too short to get upset at people for playing a wizard game.

And like, I hope the game is great though I predict it'll be middling at best. Same studio who did the cars games and MK Mythologies Sub-Zero. Don't have high hopes. People never learn the lesson of preordering stuff.
one thing i've learned is that people are never gonna not preorder games. The same way that people will always buy skins in games if they're available. If they have access to it, they'll probably do it.

But at the same time I also remember the whole Anthem development hell where their gameplay trailer is 100% pre-rendered. And also Cyberpunk world looking amazing and filled with life in the trailer. No Man Sky promising us tons of feature. And finally Fallout 76 sixteen times the detail.
I've said this many times before, but the fact that they're targeting JK Rowling's works specifically is incredibly telling. If they were outraged due to a sense of higher morality, they would boycott every franchise and every company with creators or leaders of questionable morals or outright dirty practices, but they're not. They're not being a bigger, better, morally superior person, they're "punching back" at someone who offended them. That's it. It's not some altruistic movement for the betterment of mankind, it's a brawl.
