I’m not gonna lie the developers really did a good job for this game I’m impressed, from all the alpha builds from before to making into the final game now and not only that but tieing it all into the actual story plot itself is a huge step for the developers and I feel the developers have made the game hello neighbour really live up to its hype all the way back in the beginning of 2016 I believe. And for that should receive much more praise for this solid finish on the game.
I agree. I like the fact that the story wasn't given to us straightaway. Even now, it isn't spoon-fed to us, and we have to piece it together ourselves. In my opinion, it's really clever.

Ryan did you forget you can hide in closets?
The language in this game is not Russian anymore. In fact, it is English. The letters are jumbled around, and the only way to interpret the words you get is by sounding it out. For example: "Calwom oot Wayron Croobs." When I decoded this. I got "Walcom too Norway Broocs." It sort of uses an encoded broken English. Norway Brooks is the town the neighbor lives in. I believe decoding the other words and phrases throughout the series will lead to some sort of hidden lore.

8-BitRyan, I think I have figured out the story. Between watching multiple Hello Neighbor videos, and listening to other theories, I think I’ve pieced together an accurate theory for what has happened to the neighbor’s family. The first flashback you see the Neighbor motioning for someone to follow him, and then you hear a woman giggle. He looks happy with his wife (?) and goes on a car ride with her. That is when you hear the car crash. The Neighbor is out of the car (maybe thrown out of the car upon impact with the pizza truck he hit?), he goes back to his car to see if his wife is okay and we see him start to cry (implying that his wife is dead). Then the next flashback you see is at the carnival/fair, and you see the cardboard cut-out of the boy taking control of the roller coaster. As you ride, you notice the different stages in the neighbor’s family life. They’re all happy together, then there’s the car crash that kills his wife. As you ascend the hill on the roller coaster, you’ll see like it’s going up onto a roof of a house. You hear an angry grunt from what sounds like a boy, then a young girlish scream. This implies that the boy has some underlying issues due to his mother’s death, and in a fit of anger, he pushes his sister off the roof, killing her. Thus explains the small hands coming out of the roller coaster cart and pushing the girl cardboard cut-out. Also, the girls death is confirmed by the next cut scene in the hospital with the small bed and the monitor flat-lining, and the neighbor beginning to grieve. In order to hide from the authorities the murder of his daughter by his son, the neighbor (most likely gone mad as well) hides his son in the basement. Then he himself makes the missing posters containing the boy AND the girl. (That explains the cutscene towards the end of the game with the piles of Missing posters and the Neighbor posting them on a tree with the Shadow Creature watching him. I believe the shadow creature is his conscience haunting him.
This brings us to you, the Player. You hear the screaming of the boy as he’s trying to fight off his father from putting him in the basement. You’re curious so you investigate. Well, curiosity killed the cat. You get caught as a child and it scars you for life. So then you’re an adult still having nightmares about your abduction. But when you finish the game and beat the final boss and wake up from your nightmare, you’re at peace and move on with your life; you have come to terms with this and moved on, whereas the Neighbor hasn’t. This is explained by the house on stilts that our neighbor is trapped in with the shadow creature.
Like if you think this is a valid theory, and/or comment on your own. (I’d really like Ryan to see this, so please make this noticeable!!)

I think the bed and monitor dream part was the wife dying, which was the reason how the neighbor (Mr. Peterson) got heartbroken
It’s insane how you actually managed to piece the story of hello neighbor hide and seek before it even existed

Timeline as far as I can tell (and interpretation):
* Neighbor causes an accident. Being the kid across the road you are a witness to this. A person killed by a horrible car accident with shards of glass on them would look like a monster - (shadow person). I think there are kids in the accident and he takes them into his basement to hide whats happened.
* The shadow person dies. Neighbour resolves to raise the kids as best he can but hide what happened. I don't think he is a murderer. If he was, he would have killed you when he caught you as a child. Instead he takes you to the basement in a 'fake world'. He also seems remorseful over the incidents but is hellbent on keeping the accidents cause a secret.
* The children on the missing posters are the kids taken from the car crash.
* He catches you and attemps to hide you in the basement. His house has also become a fort as he realises his house was too easy for a child to infultrate after you break in.
* Last house as an adult is your fear/guilt. Its the most rediculous house and you protect your younger self from the guild/fear of the car crash victim you witnessed as a child (the shadow person). You also need to let go that you possible left other kids in the basement to die.
The only cutscene I can't account for is the club/pub one =(... I just figured it might be how the neighbour gets drunk before the car crash.
Anyone else notice how the accident was with a pizza delivery fan (whcih I think was the neighbours - and at the end the adult sees a pizza van drives past.....

I'm pretty sure the fairground cutscene is just showing the events of what happened again. It was the only one that I couldnt work out.
A red boy behind the control of a vehicle (the red cutout man being the neighbor in control of the pizza van - i've seen a cutscene now that confirms what I believed - that he was the delivery driver - he gets out of the actual van if you run fast enough to see).
A room with woman and children laughing. The table is knocked down by you.
A room with the neighbour crying and various pictures of eyes (worried bout being seen or the kids as witness).
A passageway where there is a weird sound, an angry growl and then a scream.
The Little girl cutout is then pushed into what appears to be dirt.
Given the last thing: I think an incident occured and despite him wanting to help the children, they died or he killed them. Maybe one of their escape attempts went wrong.
I noticed something throughout this that doesn't make sense to me, all most every word we see isn't spelled right, the words that have been spelled right are, the and you, words everybody should be able to read if they speak English, missing is spelled simming, glue is spelled lgoo, there are all sorts of mistakes in the eviction notice, eviction is only spelled correctly once but I think that's to let people know "He's getting evicted", the "word" oot has stuck out to me, oot is just too spelled backwards, the sign that says "calwom oot waylon croobs" could be "welcome to Norway something" (I tried to find anything I could with croobs or a variation of it) all of these things have led me to believe that your character either has dyslexia or hasn't been taught to raed (raed is on porpose and so is porpose) but my question is, why is that at all important? Unless something happens later I guess it's just an odd detail.

Just so you know the game first was in English then changed to crooked Russian(switching the letters here and there) back to English but now the English is crooked as well. So we switch the letters around or so and we can translate everything in the game

this is my favorite act bc we havent seen or heard ANYTHING of this version of the house, like act 1 is the alpha 2 house and act 3 is the beta 3 house but act 2 Is an entirely new build and unique

I think I understand the story...
The neighbor’s kid died in the car crash, and that “Kid’s Room”was his son or daughter’s room. He mourned the loss of his child so much he started kidnapping children to replace his dead child. However, he would test them and see if any resembled his child and acted like him. If not, they lived in the rooms forever until they escaped, leading the neighbor to become mad. And since you are a child in the game, the neighbor is after you.

I KNOW WHAT THE ROLLER COASTER WAS!: the hands on the front represent the neighbors kid putting there hands out, when the kid and you fall down it represents that the kid fell out when they ha dthere hands out and they died: so, that means, when he captured the kid (and you) you and the other escaped, but the neighbor wanted to have a kid again
Watching this video and the act 1 video with the saw music made me go watch the entire series again
heres the story the neighbor had a daughter and I think the wife is divorced or the wife died and all thats left is his daughter when the neighbor took his daughter on a trip they got into the accident where his daughter died in the accident. the neighbor decided to try and make a new family by kidnapping kids and try to make them feel like their dad thats why the neighbor kept capturing kids and put them in a simulation room.

Full story: A long time ago the guy had a family; a wife, a son and a daughter and the mom died in a car accident and the father started crying and the guys son had a fight with the daughter and the son pushed the daughter and she died to so the son called the police saying "MY SISTER DIED COME HELP IT WAS ACCIDENT!" and so before the police came the guy (dad) locked the son up in the basement. (LOVE YOU)

Dont you see? The last video showed a single shoe on the ground. In the beginning of this one, you get up with one shoe. He is now in place of the first captured kid. The shoes match.
I think that builders in the neighbourhood must feel jealous as it would normally take about 4-5 builders to build a single 1 floor house and it would probably take a month or so, but the neighbour just builds another 3 floors in like 2 day alone.
Also to add on, I think Acts 1 and 2 are memories while our character is sleeping.

From ACT 1 the accident in that ‘dream’, I think I know what happened. So maybe... he was driving with his family and they crashed, then they died. And he got REALLLY upset, and then it gets maybe into the Jigsaw part of a movie or game.

Theory: The neighbour once had a child, but after, I think that the child died due to a car crash (hence the car crash cut scene from the basement). The neighbor went crazy, due to the child's loss. He took the missing children (from the missing posters) and captured them to have children of his own.
Loving the story development on this game; and the look the neighbor gave him when he escaped. :P

My thought so far:
the neighboor had a daughter and possibly a wife, but on a road trip he lost them both aka what we saw in the cut scene. That drove him insane, and he kidnapped or killed someone and hid them in his basement. He child is still possible to be alive, since I think he or she opend the door for little one. then he moved to town. a couple years later he was either getting kicked out or got a letter from home asking him to come back. the ghost he saw might be the child of the neighbor or someone we get familiar with later.
It was shimmering like the Shadow Man so perhaps the Shadow Man is actually a ghost? Seems legit.

I get now, it all makes sense. I have a theory, I think I figure out what's going on. So let's start from the beginning...
The neighbor got into a accident, which killed some one, sense he was crying while looking at the car. Remember the missing poster when a girl and a boy, what if the neighbor killed the girl, and remember coffin. And I know what your thinking,"The coffins empty though?". When the players was kidnapped by the neighbor, that coffin was the coffin that was made for the player. So there might be another coffin with the dead girl.
Also you know that girl screaming, that wasn't the girl, it was the shadow man that we see in the game.That werid monster, your probably disagree with me but let me explain. When you get yowards the end, there is moment where you see the neighbor closing and has nailed the door shut. And guess who's behide that door, it's the shadow man.
The shadow represents the evil within the neighbor and he's trying to fight back. That evil lead him to kill the girl who went missing, hid her body and kidnapped again. Thats where the player comes in. When he was young he heard the what was thought to be a girl screaming but turns out to be the shadow screaming, acting like the little girl that got his attention.
That would explain why we never get to see her, cuz shes already dead. Remember when the player was going through that fence and neighbor saw him, we see him looking at the door where the monster is being held and he didn't come after us but gave us a sinster look and walked away. That would explain a lot about the monster, and what role he or she play's. We all have a dark side and light side, the neighbor is trying to fight back but loses.
He kidnapped the not because he wanted to, but because had to. The girl was a sacrifice, why am I think this? Because the demonic drawing we see when we first go into the basement. He's doing this to make sure the monster leaves him alone. At the end the player is moves into a new place and sees the monster, could it be that the monster is calling out to him. Could the monster be trying to get inside of his head and tricking him to kidnap the next victim?
The world may never know, thats just a theory. If I made any mistakes tell me about.

The arts,messages,story line and subliminal messages in this game are amazing and a really brain puzzle to solve. I think,when you ride the roller coaster and when you push the girl I think that means that the girl is 'fallin' to her death and that's what the neighbour perspective looked like in his mind.

Who noticed the all seeing eye in the neighbor's window during the cutscene to act 3? Wasn't that the same eye you see on the outside of the building that has the rollercoaster ride and while on the rollercoaster ride?

My theory is that it wasn't his child who died but his wife. His child then resembled his wife so much to a point where he began to despise them and turned all his anger and hurt onto them, leading him to trap them in the basement.
My thoughts: The neighbor lost his wife and his child. I know, it's different from what we were thinking, right? But bare with me when I say this because there is some backstory that isn't uncovered but is almost obvious when you really think. Here it goes: The neighbor was heading to the hospital with his pregnant wife after her water broke. They got there and she was fine, until she died having the baby. The neighbor's grief got the best of him when he saw his wife in a dream, or what he thought was a dream... Ok ok, story time pausing. Where's the evidence for this? Well, maybe she wasn't pregnant, I will give you that, but women can die giving birth, and there was a possibility that something happened during birth to kill both at once. If she wasn't pregnant or giving birth then she would've been severely sick or she had a cancer of some sort. How does this tie in with the child kidnappings? This is where story time resumes; He was convinced that his wife was contacting him from the dead and telling him that he had to get a child and keep them alive seeing as they never had one. But this was really his subconciuos mind. He did so by building a sanctuary and a lot of inventions to keep the child safe. He kidnapped two children, hence the missing posters, and, because he didn't know how to take care of them, he fed them and cleaned them and took care of them with said inventions... Pause again. Why does it have to be his wife? Why not a random person or a child saying they want a friend? Remember when an alleged "Shadow Man" was controlling the neighbor? I say that's no Shadow Man, but yet the ghost of his wife. Some said and still say it's the child's spirit, but when you got close to it with cheats, it was your height; not a child at all. Continue: That's where you come in. You go to a relatives house and notice a creepy neighbor.. Attacking a child? Whether you're just curious or want to help, you investigate. Turns out, the neighbor somehow ended up killing the kids, or the kids killed themselves to escape by however they could. You were the only one to survive, and police found out about the house because of your disappearance and the police arrested the neighbor, hence why you were able to escape and able to live... So, you ask, who opened the door? Any of the 3 spirits opened it! I think it's a child, but seeing as the wife stares on, almost watching after you before Act 3 begins, I believe she was waiting. Waiting for you to come back so she could make sure you were safe. The neighbor's out there, and when the neighbor finds you.. There isn't any turning back......... Of course, this is just a theory before I see any Act 3 footage. This may change or may stay the same, but I think the latter is the incorrect option. If you read this far..... Thank you both! Usually when I comment these everybody's like, "What about this?" or "What if this happens instead?" so I was trying to capture every question they would think to ask and explain. And by the way, this wasn't my first thought. I originally was going off another comment saying a road trip accident, but if that was true, then why only one person dying if he lost a wife and a kid? Surely both would be in maybe the same room or perhaps two different rooms right next to each other. So I thought, "Well, what if it showed only one death, because the other life, the child's life, was with it?" And so I thought about what happened in the different betas and alphas and pre alphas and here we are!
I'd also like to say that I'm no average 24 year old woman who came up with this on the spot, I'm just a 12 year old with a genius brain who watches too much MatPat :3
I think maybe the devil or some demonic parasite pretended to be the ghost of the wife to trick the neighbour into murdering which explains that he was driven to kill the kids instead of just kidnaping them

Also I have a game recommendation (well it's more like an experience) called Doki Doki Literature Club. It's like an anime dating simulator but it later goes dark and depressing, not to mention it breaks the 4th wall. Also if you do use it, make sure to check on the game files while playing because stuff happens...
I think the shadow man is the person that hit the neighbor in the car crash, and the neighbor is building all of these things to get revenge. He seems to be scared of the shadow man, so he is probably scared he is going to die too.
