Nicky Roth (the protagonist you play as in hello neighbor) was a friend of Aaron Peterson (the neighbor son), Nicky witness the neighbor locking his son in the basement. for lack of a better term Nicky went to rescue his friend and ended up getting captured him self in act 1 but with Aaron help he was able to escape.
Instead of making people think that his children went missing, what if he made the missing posters to make himself think that they're not dead, they're 'missing.'
So basically what you're saying is that the neighbour created a false reality for himself and the people around him, and the main story mode breaks that reality for him and he has to capture the player to keep the facade up? Because that's honestly a good theory.

As spiritual animal they are protectors. (its not in Ryan's play but if you fell in the last sequence the crow will catch you and put you back on roof)
The shadowy figure, I still believe, is the image of the mother. From what I see, she dies in a car accident and it makes sense her image would look like it has shards of glass in it. The neighbour would, understandably, see her as hateful entity towards him as she would have expected him to protect the kids past her death. She is the symbol of his guilt. His boy is obviously the one that 'saves' you in an act as you see his cutout figure unlock your basement door. When you escape the house the only reason the neighbour does not chase you is because a noise happens and he turns his attention towards it (which we can assume is his kid). I see a lot of comments that seem to confuse 'you' with his 'son'. I think its act 2 that both these events happen and point to his child being a different person to the player. Also the last house in the main game, is imaginery, it is the dream-view of the now grown 'you' and the experience you had with the neighbour. The last house, I don't think, has any bearing on the actual story other than to show it burnt down. I am a little disappointed if the neighbours agression and craziness is a result of losing his wife and child (stealing kids to hide them downstairs, ah, yeah). I guess I was just hoping for more of a horror element. There are so many parts in the original houses that pointed to a deeper, darker neighbour who attempts a satanic ritual to ressurrect his wife resulting in the shadow character and his attempts to contain that within his household. For some reason that excites me more as a story than "he built a big fort so he couldn't lose his other kid" and "he stuck other kids down there too,,,, because he was trying to hide that he had imprisoned his kid...".

I have a theory that the eyes under the blanket represent the son crying underneath, and the shadow guy is making fun of the main character, and everyone has theories that the brother is the main character from the first game. Also now we know that the roller coaster in the first game that showed the neighbors daughters death, the arms that stuck out when the cutout of the daughter fell into the grave at the end was the brothers arms, not the neighbors, cuz the brother could be the main character. like if u agree.
Each stage may represent how the brother feels. The first one is more fictional signaling he feels like actually playing with his sister, while stage two is a little real signaling he is a little different(maybe worried) and 3 he is confused why his dad left his mom(not understanding she’s dead) and 4 he understands she is dead, but wont accept it and takes out his anger on his sister. Lol just a theory, but it is something to think about.

It would explain the abstract craziness of the house (trapped and impossible to escape) and the dark shadow demon following the main character (the sister or what the main character sees her as, regret and the haunting of the past) In the end the main character escapes his father who has been a giant threat his entire life. Then he finally overcomes his past grief and regret (the giant shadow boss) Basically the first game was about the boy suffering with PTSD who, with time and age finally overcomes his past, and learns to forgive himself at least a bit. that would be cool if you play as the son in hn, but sadly it's not. the kid in hello neighbor is a different person, the credits to hide and seek take place right before the first game and when the neighbor is done burrying (don't know if I spelled that right) his daughter the player is kicking a soccer ball when he hears screaming, (which is the neighbor locking his son in the basement for what he did) then the neighbor is trying to keep people from telling that he has a kid in the basement,thats why he has missing posters,so noone is suspicious about some missing kids.but thats just a theory

A little boy isn’t gonna understand that, though. That’s a traumatic thing for someone so young to go through, so it can be hard to process those feelings. And he also didn’t have anyone or anything else to vent these frustrations to. Like, no you shouldn’t, but he probably felt like he didn’t have much of a choice.
The boy was mad. He always lost everything. He lost his mom. He lost the game every time. So he got resentful and started being a jerk. But he was not thinking straight when he shoved his sister off the plank. He regretted it after but that still left the neghbore sad depressed and scared to lose all he had left. So he locked his son in his basement to keep him safe
After recently losing a close, beloved cousin this hit me right in the heart. An emotional journey throughout the Hello Neighbour series (hopefully this isn't the end and they do make more), and I thank you for your touching reaction, along with the thousands of others in the comments feeling the same way and commiserating. Whole Hello Neighbor timeline in one paragraph: The Neighbor's kid's are playing games as usual,and after they play their first game of "hide and seek" they eat for dinner,then afterward's play Cop's and Robber's,and the city that is shown is represented in what their city ACTUALLY look's like in the Hello Neighbor world... Since they're kid's,and that the city is pretty close to their Neighborhood... It kinda makes since that they would imagine it being right there in the house.... Then,after they play that,they notice that there parent's are missing,and just sit at the table moping,wishing that they were there at the table with them.... After a while... They try to call their parent's but,with no luck.... The sister soon get's depressed over her parent's missing while her brother still want's to play some games still,and soon she get's up,and play's with him once again.... Afterward's,they play once again,and after that their Dad finally comes home from the hospital telling the harsh truth that their mother died in a Car Crash,getting the son agitated,and turing his mood completely around,and soon becomes a violent menace to his sister while at the table,and then the Neighbor tell's the brother to go to his room.... The brother then wanted to agitate the daughter with her doll,saying for them to play hide,and seek if she would to get her doll back again... The daughter agree's,and then she goes to the roof of the house,(but,of what we see through her eye's while playing the game is her imagination but,is still reality at the end of ACT 5....) and then her brother appear's,knock's the doll out of her hand,and pushes her,and then she accidently fall's triggering a slo-mo effect showing that the brother is filled with immediate guilt of what he had just done.... That's the end of the prequel.... The start of the first game start's off with the Neighbor trapping the brother in the basement for what he had done... The son escapes twice,and then the Neighbor just gives up.... ACT 3 is 20 something year's later in to the future,having an apartment while just getting kicked out,then decides to go to his new house across the street from where he lived 17,18 year's prior from where "the accident" had happened..... He moves in with his stuff,and then lay's down,and start's getting filled with major guilt from what happened so long ago acroos the street to what he had done to his sister... Then we get pulled into his nightmare where he dream's up the house he had lived in as a child but,much more huge.... "(since as a child,you tend to think thing's are more huge then they really are,and since this is his nightmare of what happened long ago,this isn't really that surprising...)" After the two act's of nightmare's filled with remorse,and guilt,he fought the guilt he had in his body for so long,and brushed it off for good,and started putting his belonging's into his new house.... The two nightmare's he has in ACT 3,ACT 4,and ACT 5 is him in his mind trying to cope with his guilt from what he had done long ago to his little sister,and what his father had treated him like through the year's as it seem's like the brother "(as a child)" was filled with jealousy from how his Dad (A.K.A. The Neighbor) treated his sister (which is being nice to her,and alway's yelling at the brother.) Btw,the start of Hello Neighbor is JUST after the Hide,and Seek prequel,and the poster's that are hung up is his imagination of what might happen to him,or of what his Dad might do to him if he found out his own son accidently pushed his daughter off of the roof.... The End...
18:40 you can see the little poke of the top of the bed covers it may be like that because in the actual game you could see eyes glowing under the covers and I think it was the brother all along.
Maybe that shadow character is actually the boys bad conscious, because you had to protect him from it. The boy dealt with the pain through anger and aggression, though the girl tried cheering him up, he went to far. It was an accident, but all he knows is he killed his sister, so hes haunted by it. Which might be also why the neighbor locked him away, not rather to keep the boy safe, but to keep people around him safe. Which is why he tries to stop u from doing in the basement. Maybe even the neighbor was so grief stricken by his wife's death and his sons outrage leading to his daughters death, he kept the daughters death secret and declared them both missing. Which might also be why theres so many paintings of eyes in his house, to sign that hes always watching, to keep people safe.
It was the roller coaster. If you notice when boy we play gets on, the boy cut out is in control of the roller coaster. It is his hands that are attached to the front of the coaster.

Lets make this obvious for Ryan. If you are reading this Ryan, the story is that the "shadow man" is the son's fear and regret, or depending on how you look at it, his dark side. The neighbor lost his daughter via the son pushing her off the roof, exaggerated by the ramp on the roof. The neighbor lost his wife cause he was either drunk driving, as show in the cut scenes of full release (the 2nd one where he is giant.) As for the son, he was so ashamed he locked him in the basement holding him prisoner. Theories to support this would be the stuffed bear and drawings alpha 1, house alpha 2 and more. The neighbor's son actually helps you and unlocks the basement door, as shown through the keyhole in full release. Sincerely, The Helpers.
You assume the boy meant to do it? But maybe it was an accident, he was angry at someone for something, and his sister wanted to help him but he wouldn’t allow it, and his outburst caused her to get killed. Probably playing near a cliff or ontop of the house or some place high.

Wait a sec the boy is the person you are in the first game and at the ending of the first game you were bringing the neighbor down meaning that after you pushed the girl off you brought him down even deeper resulting in him locking you up in the basement. The boy the escapes the basement and runs away. When he becomes older he moves into a house right across his fathers old house, which is now destroyed because of a fire. You can see the fire damage done to the house at the ending cutscene. Please like so that Ryan can see because I honestly believe this is the lore of the game.
It's so crazy, in the very beginning of the hello neighbor series there was no understanding on the story behind it, but now we know so much and just peicing it all together...it just shows so much of the dark backstory behind it and the reason the neighbor went into this crazed thinking mode...such a sad story.
Hey also one thing is that when the girl fell it showed the exact same thing that happen during the roller coaster ride also in the rollercoaster it showed the kitchen. After the Neighbor locked the kid in his basement, hello neighbor cycle happens again be cause the kid went to go play the ball in act 1 and act2. Act3, act4, and the finale act. But one thing I don’t get is that how did we not see the kid in the basement because in hello neighbor hide and seek the kid we play as in all the games is playing with cars so when the neighbor locked the kid in how did We not see him. this game is basicly before all the others hello neibours games. this game is the past of hello neibour. i dont remember but i tink ( when i was playing all the others hello neibour games) they where poster of missing kids. and the kid we got to play in the almost last game well we play as a kid. at the end of all the hello neibhour games the neibour is crying, i have a lot of theorise about that but it gonna take a long time to explain them, so im gonna say only one today. first he is crying beacause her wife died and his girl.
I’ve seen this ending so many times on all the different channels and each time it gets more and more sad. This one is the last youtuber I chose because I waned to save the best for last. And this one was definitely the saddest.
When he pushed his sisters arm away and she just dropped, when the brother looked back and just deeply regretted everything, i just emotionally dropped.
Its because if you get stuck like you accidentally clip into a wall or fell in a pit that you can't get out if you click that button a crow comes to the girl's location to bring her to the start of the level. doesn't reset. also when you call the crow there's a bar on the screen that shows how long until the crow comes. I don't recommend using this to try and escape the brother.

my theory (probably wrong) after the the mother died he started loving the daughter more than the son, (maybe because she shows peace and innocence) and when he found out what the son did he hated him locked him up and later kicked him out, in hello neighbor, the son comes back as a grown up (maybe to apologise) and the father refuses to listen, setting up traps and trying to get rid of the son maybe even killing him (idk its like 4 am on a tuesday)

I have a theory that the eyes under the blanket represent the son crying underneath, and the shadow guy is making fun of the main character, and everyone has theories that the brother is the main character from the first game. Also now we know that the roller coaster in the first game that showed the neighbors daughters death, the arms that stuck out when the cutout of the daughter fell into the grave at the end was the brothers arms, not the neighbors, cuz the brother could be the main character. like if u agree.

Each stage may represent how the brother feels. The first one is more fictional signaling he feels like actually playing with his sister, while stage two is a little real signaling he is a little different(maybe worried) and 3 he is confused why his dad left his mom(not understanding she’s dead) and 4 he understands she is dead, but wont accept it and takes out his anger on his sister. Lol just a theory, but it is something to think about.

Could it be the brother was the main character of the first game? It would explain the abstract craziness of the house (trapped and impossible to escape) and the dark shadow demon following the main character (the sister or what the main character sees her as, regret and the haunting of the past) In the end the main character escapes his father who has been a giant threat his entire life. Then he finally overcomes his past grief and regret (the giant shadow boss)
Basically the first game was about the boy suffering with PTSD who, with time and age finally overcomes his past, and learns to forgive himself at least a bit. Then again its just a theory. What do you think?

that would be cool if you play as the son in hn, but sadly it's not. the kid in hello neighbor is a different person, the credits to hide and seek take place right before the first game and when the neighbor is done burrying (don't know if I spelled that right) his daughter the player is kicking a soccer ball when he hears screaming, (which is the neighbor locking his son in the basement for what he did) then the neighbor is trying to keep people from telling that he has a kid in the basement,thats why he has missing posters,so noone is suspicious about some missing kids.but thats just a theory

I literally just finished reading Hello Neighbor Missing Pieces. It's an amazing book, and I already have so many theories.

A little boy isn’t gonna understand that, though. That’s a traumatic thing for someone so young to go through, so it can be hard to process those feelings. And he also didn’t have anyone or anything else to vent these frustrations to. Like, no you shouldn’t, but he probably felt like he didn’t have much of a choice.

The boy was mad. He always lost everything. He lost his mom. He lost the game every time. So he got resentful and started being a jerk. But he was not thinking straight when he shoved his sister off the plank. He regretted it after but that still left the neghbore sad depressed and scared to lose all he had left. So he locked his son in his basement to keep him safe
After recently losing a close, beloved cousin this hit me right in the heart. An emotional journey throughout the Hello Neighbour series (hopefully this isn't the end and they do make more), and I thank you for your touching reaction, along with the thousands of others in the comments feeling the same way and commiserating. Whole Hello Neighbor timeline in one paragraph:
The Neighbor's kid's are playing games as usual,and after they play their first game of "hide and seek" they eat for dinner,then afterward's play Cop's and Robber's,and the city that is shown is represented in what their city ACTUALLY look's like in the Hello Neighbor world...
Since they're kid's,and that the city is pretty close to their Neighborhood... It kinda makes since that they would imagine it being right there in the house....
Then,after they play that,they notice that there parent's are missing,and just sit at the table moping,wishing that they were there at the table with them....
After a while... They try to call their parent's but,with no luck....
The sister soon get's depressed over her parent's missing while her brother still want's to play some games still,and soon she get's up,and play's with him once again....
Afterward's,they play once again,and after that their Dad finally comes home from the hospital telling the harsh truth that their mother died in a Car Crash,getting the son agitated,and turing his mood completely around,and soon becomes a violent menace to his sister while at the table,and then the Neighbor tell's the brother to go to his room....
The brother then wanted to agitate the daughter with her doll,saying for them to play hide,and seek if she would to get her doll back again...
The daughter agree's,and then she goes to the roof of the house,(but,of what we see through her eye's while playing the game is her imagination but,is still reality at the end of ACT 5....) and then her brother appear's,knock's the doll out of her hand,and pushes her,and then she accidently fall's triggering a slo-mo effect showing that the brother is filled with immediate guilt of what he had just done....
That's the end of the prequel....
The start of the first game start's off with the Neighbor trapping the brother in the basement for what he had done...
The son escapes twice,and then the Neighbor just gives up....
ACT 3 is 20 something year's later in to the future,having an apartment while just getting kicked out,then decides to go to his new house across the street from where he lived 17,18 year's prior from where "the accident" had happened.....
He moves in with his stuff,and then lay's down,and start's getting filled with major guilt from what happened so long ago acroos the street to what he had done to his sister... Then we get pulled into his nightmare where he dream's up the house he had lived in as a child but,much more huge....
"(since as a child,you tend to think thing's are more huge then they really are,and since this is his nightmare of what happened long ago,this isn't really that surprising...)"
After the two act's of nightmare's filled with remorse,and guilt,he fought the guilt he had in his body for so long,and brushed it off for good,and started putting his belonging's into his new house....
The two nightmare's he has in ACT 3,ACT 4,and ACT 5 is him in his mind trying to cope with his guilt from what he had done long ago to his little sister,and what his father had treated him like through the year's as it seem's like the brother "(as a child)" was filled with jealousy from how his Dad (A.K.A. The Neighbor) treated his sister (which is being nice to her,and alway's yelling at the brother.)
Btw,the start of Hello Neighbor is JUST after the Hide,and Seek prequel,and the poster's that are hung up is his imagination of what might happen to him,or of what his Dad might do to him if he found out his own son accidently pushed his daughter off of the roof....

Maybe that shadow character is actually the boys bad conscious, because you had to protect him from it. The boy dealt with the pain through anger and aggression, though the girl tried cheering him up, he went to far. It was an accident, but all he knows is he killed his sister, so hes haunted by it. Which might be also why the neighbor locked him away, not rather to keep the boy safe, but to keep people around him safe. Which is why he tries to stop u from doing in the basement. Maybe even the neighbor was so grief stricken by his wife's death and his sons outrage leading to his daughters death, he kept the daughters death secret and declared them both missing. Which might also be why theres so many paintings of eyes in his house, to sign that hes always watching, to keep people safe.

It was the roller coaster. If you notice when boy we play gets on, the boy cut out is in control of the roller coaster. It is his hands that are attached to the front of the coaster.

Lets make this obvious for Ryan. If you are reading this Ryan, the story is that the "shadow man" is the son's fear and regret, or depending on how you look at it, his dark side. The neighbor lost his daughter via the son pushing her off the roof, exaggerated by the ramp on the roof. The neighbor lost his wife cause he was either drunk driving, as show in the cut scenes of full release (the 2nd one where he is giant.) As for the son, he was so ashamed he locked him in the basement holding him prisoner. Theories to support this would be the stuffed bear and drawings alpha 1, house alpha 2 and more. The neighbor's son actually helps you and unlocks the basement door, as shown through the keyhole in full release.

You assume the boy meant to do it? But maybe it was an accident, he was angry at someone for something, and his sister wanted to help him but he wouldn’t allow it, and his outburst caused her to get killed. Probably playing near a cliff or ontop of the house or some place high.

Sorry I don't have the right name im a GD player..
Wait a sec the boy is the person you are in the first game and at the ending of the first game you were bringing the neighbor down meaning that after you pushed the girl off you brought him down even deeper resulting in him locking you up in the basement. The boy the escapes the basement and runs away. When he becomes older he moves into a house right across his fathers old house, which is now destroyed because of a fire. You can see the fire damage done to the house at the ending cutscene. Please like so that Ryan can see because I honestly believe this is the lore of the game.
It's so crazy, in the very beginning of the hello neighbor series there was no understanding on the story behind it, but now we know so much and just peicing it all together...it just shows so much of the dark backstory behind it and the reason the neighbor went into this crazed thinking mode...such a sad story.

Hey also one thing is that when the girl fell it showed the exact same thing that happen during the roller coaster ride also in the rollercoaster it showed the kitchen. After the Neighbor locked the kid in his basement, hello neighbor cycle happens again be cause the kid went to go play the ball in act 1 and act2. Act3, act4, and the finale act. But one thing I don’t get is that how did we not see the kid in the basement because in hello neighbor hide and seek the kid we play as in all the games is playing with cars so when the neighbor locked the kid in how did We not see him. So what I am thinking is ether he escape because in act 2 the window was broken down like he escaped. Another theory I have is that he ether he died. Why am I crying over a Hello Neighbor game?
this game is basicly before all the others hello neibours games. this game is the past of hello neibour. i dont remember but i tink ( when i was playing all the others hello neibour games) they where poster of missing kids. and the kid we got to play in the almost last game well we play as a kid. at the end of all the hello neibhour games the neibour is crying, i have a lot of theorise about that but it gonna take a long time to explain them, so im gonna say only one today. first he is crying beacause her wife died and his girl.

I’ve seen this ending so many times on all the different channels and each time it gets more and more sad. This one is the last youtuber I chose because I waned to save the best for last. And this one was definitely the saddest.

If you go back to the menu screen, there’s an option that says ‘I am stuck’ or something like that
Its because if you get stuck like you accidentally clip into a wall or fell in a pit that you can't get out if you click that button a crow comes to the girl's location to bring her to the start of the level. doesn't reset. also when you call the crow there's a bar on the screen that shows how long until the crow comes. I don't recommend using this to try and escape the brother.

my theory (probably wrong)
after the the mother died he started loving the daughter more than the son, (maybe because she shows peace and innocence) and when he found out what the son did he hated him locked him up and later kicked him out, in hello neighbor, the son comes back as a grown up (maybe to apologise) and the father refuses to listen, setting up traps and trying to get rid of the son maybe even killing him (idk its like 4 am on a tuesday)
That would make a some sense since he gave older boy lots of chances then eventually burying him out of anger or annoyance

And if you guys remembered the poster were shows a boy and girls are missing, The neighbor probably locked up the boy without telling anyone and as Ryan is it at the end the neighbor didn’t tell the authorities.
