  • This video demonstrates how a BIY (Build It Your self) Variable AC Power source can be made in quick and easy steps of construction, using components salvaged from an AC Servo Stabilizer (watch link: • Working of an AC Servo... )
    Here, a Variac (230 V AC, 8A MAx) and a Power Transformer (5KVA, 2:1) is used, but an Isolation Transformer of similar KVA rating is most preferable. Other essential components like a Voltmeter and an Ammeter must be connected at the output to complete the functionality of the system.....which i have not included in this video......but perhaps next time !

    Hmm all servo stablizers cannot be converted to variac like this. Some have a series non variable inductor.so you can only vary voltage in limited range.I found this out the hard way :(

    ...iam having 3 phase 415 V variac 20 ampere. For step up operation it will give 515 volts has output. Is it possible to give 1000 volts as input and to get entire 1000 volts to be varied in these autotransformer

    very-able.... love it! ,,,,,, WOW there are some exposed LIVE connections direct to 230V AC Mains. Very easy to be electrocuted and die. Unbelievably dangerous bad practices being made!

      Kaiser Dar ohk see the aim of the setup should be to regulate the amount of current and monitor it using an ammemter and see if the MCB trips off above the rated current. So u connect a transformer of higher KVA like 5 or above to the variac which is connected to an AC power supply of 230 volts. The mentioned transformer should have thicker( bcoz high amperes of current is to be carried out) and fewer secondary windings than primary windings of the transformer. Now connect a current measuring tranformer to the secondary of the high KVA transformer mentioned above and connect this current transformer to the ammeter so as to monitor the amount of current passing through the circuit to the test subject which is the MCB and now see if the MCB turns off at the rated current value .
