I tried your recipe and it was a hit. This is the first time I added cabbage & hot pepper (no seeds for me). I had to run out & buy more ingredients to make it again the very next day. Thanks for sharing your skills. I’ll definitely be looking for more of your recipes.
I'm researching this dish after being given some home made by a friend from Trinidad. ( much love denzel). It is to date one of the best things I have tasted. So memorable in fact that it was actually 1992 when I ate it. Lol that's how nice it was.
I love this site...best recipes ever! I'm from Hamilton Ontario and I loved buying the soul food., but now I live in Alberta and you can't find Caribbean Food. I miss having ROTI..! Heading home for a bit in August and first thing I am going to do is have myself a Roti with Curry Chicken .
My family are Jamaican so Buljol is not really something that is tradtional with us, but I have friends from Trinidad and Grenada who introduced me to it. I love it and am going to try your version, I made it once with Shredded Lettuce, but I think holding off on the Saltfish adding cabbage and adding the xtra veggies will really make it great. Great video
Thanks for sharing your nethod. I didnt have saltfish do I made buljol with tuna flakes. If you didn't see it done you'd never know it was tuna. It tasted just as good and looked like saltfish buljol.
My friend from Grenada used to make this for me but I never knew how to make it- Thanks for showing me- cant wait to make it myself!! love your videos- keep up the good work!!
Love your videos. I'm 22 and was born in Trinidad but for the I most part raised in the states, so I don't know how to cook caribbean food that well but watching your videos really helps me out. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how you make the fried bake? :)
My grandmother used to make saltfish buljol. I remember she used to pour 2 - 3 tablespoonsful of hot vegetable cooking oil over the prepared saltfish and vegetable mixture before serving --very tasty indeed, served with fried bake.
Looks so much like saltfish souse minus the cucumber my mum and dad are Grenadian and that's how they made it with coconut oil Hmmm delicious I think I will make some tomorrow with some fried bakes
hi chris i just got to know about your videos i am from trinidad i grew up on these dishes you got me started on cooking trini style thank u for sharing how to get the slime out of the ochro
Chris i tryed it but i added some lime pepper that i made it taste great thanks again i had not made this in a long time and how to make thanks to you i can enjoy this
i could have sworn after you poured the oil over the buljol you were going to pour the buljol back into the pan and cook it. lol. i cant remember ever trying it this way. but im def going to try it out. Thanks Chris!
Love your channel. My wife turns all my classic midwest comfort foodinto trini specialties. Like my chicken and dumplings my wife adds plantains and peppers and it's better than my mom's american recipe! Do you have a recipe for caribbean chili?
Hey Chris I am very curious how it taste. We Surinam people make it otherwise. We heat coconut oil and use only onion on the saltfish, and eat it with banana (greor yellow) yams, casave or with bread. The other way, we fried onion, pepper and tomato ,some people use tomato paste or tomato ketchup in the oil.And then they put the salted fish and bake it for about 15 minutes. You should try it
as a man who use saltfish just a tip just put the kettle soak the saltfish then boil the kettle again throw off the first set of water then do the same for a third time and leave it for about 3mins and that does the trick you never have to boil saltfish again leaving the place smelling great
Hi Cris it's Carolyn Vynckier, that's very similar to how I prepare , I also add lime juice. I also use fresh fish Mai Mai or grouper and this is so good with hard food lol meaning provision. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas 2011

Lynda this is Trinidadian Creole there’s no Jamaican dishes that are similar the Trinidadian dishes because we don’t use scotch bonnet, we use Habanero or stronger with the seeds.
That's what I had for brekky yesterday morn and today with 2 boiled eggs and grated Cucumber on the side and, also Guiness Punch to wash that down....except I used smoked Makerel, instead of Cod fish
I am from the Bahamas everything I want Something to eat from the Island I go to Chris and my wife love it, she tell her friends I cook like Jamaican....

Im not from any island or place like that not even a costal US state. But im a food lover and interested in how my carribean bros and sisters eat. Im looking for new things to eat thats healthy and delicious that uses ingredients that are foreign to me. So i may try this one day. I just get scared to mess stuff up then get turned off from the food entirely.
I am sure going to try it. I make something similar to this but in st.croix we call it saltfish gundy. Never added cabbage. this is something different and I love to try new ways to cook..v seafood. I tried a shrimp dish you email me and it was good.p
Nice boy. The presentation cuda-been enhanced by spicing it with that exotic Trinidadian accent to add local flavour. Too "Guys" makes it look like a regular american plate. Use rather:" You all, All-you, and close it with a " ! Nahman yuh joking or wah, not to mention a lil steel band accompaniment just to usher and exit. Trini English is very expressive specially the olden type.
My husband thinks I am an amazing cook...but this is my secret weapon right here. THANKS CHRIS!
Belinda Haynes-Gordon lol same here!
