I hope a young lady I knew at university 35 years ago sees this video. She was an academic snob who thought the lyrics of Gershwin, Porter and the other greats were just trite meaningless rubbish. Amazing how an academic with a sense of intellect superiority could get something so wrong. Sometimes a genius is more akin to someone who has intuition and nuance. This was a great video. Thank you, Michael Feinstein, for posting it. I hope she now gets it.
This man knows more about real music than anybody else alive today . I seen Michael in concert here in Chicago with Rosemary Clooney years ago and it was a thrill . Rosemary Clooney was Michael's favorite singer . I think she was sort of his mentor .
How fascinating❤ aiways love how you describe various interpretation of songs and music...you are brilliant Michael. Thank you. I learn a lot. Warm regards from down under. Maria
This was really fascinating to hear the various styles and how they change the context of the song, and as is usual from Michael, to learn some music history, too!
I’ve long thought that the term “Great American Songbook” refers to the songs written for musical theater and Hollywood musicals (and perhaps songs written for non-musical films). More important, I think that the term “Great” refers to the large number of songs in the songbook rather than anything having to do with patriotism, etc.
is this a retake of a past version? I have this ear worm from a video of M.Feinstein about the great american songbook - he played "always" in a bebop version. It seems its not on YT anymore :(

He's my favorite male vocalist. Since I heard his Up-Up and Away, no male voice matched his.
