put new Goodyear wrangler duratracs on my Lifted F350. best snow tires I have ever owned. also put a Yukon grizzly locker in the rear. made a world of difference in deep snow.
Rich Farfugnuven My brother runs the duratracs and likes them also. The more tires you have turning continuously the better. Lockers make a world of difference!
my moms awd astro van did this stuff all the time,she drove us to school and 1 time the snow was so deep win we got to school we was the only 1s there cause school was cancelled and nobody else could make it. that old 4.3 went 400,000 miles before she sold it to the neighbors.
Just as great as spring. Swerving all over the road to dodge pot holes is okay with the police but if you drive in a perfect straight line and hit all the pot holes the cops will pull you over lol
I'll never know why people think pressing the gas down harder in snow is helping their cause...feathering the gas lightly & switching from reverse to drive rocking yourself out is the best way to NEVER get stuck and NOT overheat or blow your radiator hoses. Let er rip once you've got the momentum!. I have 2 bad ass 4x4 trucks but even my Neon could get through the lower portions of snow with that method of not biting off more than you can chew and if you do, back out through your previous tracks and DON'T DIG A HOLE BY SPINNING! Also with a 4x4 turning your wheels slightly can also help you catch traction.

Really? I have driven trought light snow that was 2ft deep, with FWD car... In that situation if you put the "pedal to the metal" you are stuck. Gently pick up speed and RAM it (hehe). And if/when you stop, reverse and again. Works perfectly and only once i've been complitely stuck in wud.

I loved to ''play in the snow'' like that and I used it to tow a 30 ft. enclosed car trailer , an open 20 ft. car trailer and played in the mud some too ... sure miss that ol' BEAST !!! ... ended up HAVING to sale it in a divorce
That looked like fun and your truck is set up for deep snow like that. In recent years here in North Carolina around the Raleigh area, we got some snow & ice last year. My front yard's big enough to where i'll get my ' 02 Ford Ranger out and do donuts when there's about an inch or two of snow on the ground. I live on a hill and I won't dare take it behind the house, else it will get stuck, and won't climb back up the hill. It's a 2 x 4, but if it was a 4 x 4, it might would climb it.. I did that a few years ago when it snowed a foot of snow, drove the Ranger in the back yard, it would not climb back up the hill, had to let the truck sit until the snow melted. lol ...how embarrassing!
Nice truck and fun in the snow is awesome. The issue you have with traction is that you have all terrain tires on not snow, they are way different. You could find some cheap rims and then some snow tires (huge fan of Blizzaks), then getting through that snow would have little issue. I pulled my truck out of snow over the hood with the blizzaks and barely a spin. Two pickups next to me needed me to pull them out with all terrain tires.

Anyway, my dad LOVED that thing, and one Sunday morning, we had to go to church fairly early. As the parking lot was otherwise vacant, there was fresh snow, and the snowplows hadn't come around yet, my dad decided to have a bit of fun. Now, picture with me, if you will, the following: a full-size passenger van doing donuts, figure-eights, and drifts with an agility you wouldn't expect from such an ungainly vehicle...in a church parking lot at 7 in the morning, with four teenagers and one pre-pubescent bracing against every available surface and screaming their heads off while the 50-something driver is cackling like a madman. That was the day I gained appreciation for parking brakes, skilled driving, and the realization that I had the coolest dad on the block. I miss those days...
Just a little 4x4ing advice for the young guy driving the truck. When you are stuck a little like that, try moving your steering wheel from left to right and let your front tires get a better grip. Sometimes you can find better traction.

And nice vid guys, I'm from Wv, not only do we get to go mudding in Spring, Summer, and Fall, but then winter hits and we get to play in the snow for the next three months 👌😋 last year we got 40+ inches In about a 24 hour period in late January, probably the most I remember getting around here and boy did me and pops have some fun in it with the old Chevy's! 😝

Won't happen if the truck has been regeared to accommodate the larger tires. Got two jeeps, one with 31's and a 3.5 lift and another with a 6.5" lift and 35's one is built and the other (3.5" lifted one) that isn't did lose the transmission due to it not being geared right for the larger tires.

Currently sitting on 22s (need to get some better ones for the snow) I'm worried that i live in Ohio and we get hammered in the winter. My last one was Durango with 4x4 and that sucked in snow or on ice. How does the posi rear end effect it? Is it better or worse for winter driving?

Snow sucks and gets old very fast. 95% of the drivers around you don't know how to control their vehicle, the salt eats your chassis, and once you hit ice it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are as there is zero traction regardless of tires. Drift blasting is fun though if no one else is around.
SuzukiKid400 you're right, 95% of drivers don't know how to drive in the snow and where I live, most of them will even admit it, but not only do I live for the winter months, I like to think I fall into the 5% just for that reason, so regardless of the downside to winter conditions, I still wish it snowed like that where I am lol
Matt ra studded tires are illegal unless you live where it's too cold for salt to work or if you're up in the remote mountainous areas. Typical metropolitan areas don't allow studs because it degrades the asphalt infrastructure.

sixtybelowcold the snow itself will give traction, would take alot of spinning to melt the ice, and then you risk getting stuck in the 4 spots where your tires have been spinning. some spinning is needed to gain traction, but this video they were clearly playing around anyhow.
Playing in the snow is fun until the temp drops below zero. Now you got a solid block of ice you can't drive. I've done it. Had to break out the propane heater before it would even roll.
Drop the tire pressure pressure down to about 10 psi and see what she'll go through. Whole new world. Works in sand too, as long as ya don't have stupid giant rims with a 2 inch sidewall.

+rocker85675 that's a little something known as the front tires are connected to the steering wheel and when a driver turns the wheel the front wheels tend to do the same
looks fun! however, what are some of the mechanical risks of doing this? like with water you could hydro lock the motor, can you do that with snow as well? i would assume that most of the risks with water jump across to this. with the added fun of ice! :D i live in AZ so i don't have snow, but may drive up to the snow for a weekend soon
its less harmful than rain if you think about how that works. hydro lock can usually only happen if you literally drive off into a lake or pond or basically submerge the air intake so it can only suck 100% water into the air intake which will then pull it to the pistons and since water wont compress it will either bend rods or break the crank or if your super lucky only lock the motor up and you can fix that by removing the spark plugs and cracking it over untill nothing is shooting out of the plug holes. but as i said for your question, playing in snow is fine for the vehicle.

my cousin did it to a old 80 something model branco 2 a long time ago. we were 4 wheeling and he hit a 3 foot deep mud hole that had been wallered out by cab trucks with 52 inch tractor tires. my cousin thought he could make it with speed, he hit it 3rd gear about 40 mph. branco died instantly. it had 33 10.50 thornbird tsl's on the rear and bald street tires on the front but that thing would go any where. except swimming lol

Snow sucks and gets old very fast. 95% of the drivers around you don't know how to control their vehicle, the salt eats your chassis, and once you hit ice it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are as there is zero traction regardless of tires. Drift blasting is fun though if no one else is around.
SuzukiKid400 you're right, 95% of drivers don't know how to drive in the snow and where I live, most of them will even admit it, but not only do I live for the winter months, I like to think I fall into the 5% just for that reason, so regardless of the downside to winter conditions, I still wish it snowed like that where I am lol

Matt ra studded tires are illegal unless you live where it's too cold for salt to work or if you're up in the remote mountainous areas. Typical metropolitan areas don't allow studs because it degrades the asphalt infrastructure.

lol friction will melt the ice and get you to the road for a wee bit of traction ;) haha only way i can justify it. then the high rpm reverse....good way to toss the gear but hey their truck not mine :P
sixtybelowcold the snow itself will give traction, would take alot of spinning to melt the ice, and then you risk getting stuck in the 4 spots where your tires have been spinning. some spinning is needed to gain traction, but this video they were clearly playing around anyhow.

Playing in the snow is fun until the temp drops below zero. Now you got a solid block of ice you can't drive. I've done it. Had to break out the propane heater before it would even roll.

Drop the tire pressure pressure down to about 10 psi and see what she'll go through. Whole new world. Works in sand too, as long as ya don't have stupid giant rims with a 2 inch sidewall.

looks fun! however, what are some of the mechanical risks of doing this? like with water you could hydro lock the motor, can you do that with snow as well? i would assume that most of the risks with water jump across to this. with the added fun of ice! :D i live in AZ so i don't have snow, but may drive up to the snow for a weekend soon

its less harmful than rain if you think about how that works. hydro lock can usually only happen if you literally drive off into a lake or pond or basically submerge the air intake so it can only suck 100% water into the air intake which will then pull it to the pistons and since water wont compress it will either bend rods or break the crank or if your super lucky only lock the motor up and you can fix that by removing the spark plugs and cracking it over untill nothing is shooting out of the plug holes.
but as i said for your question, playing in snow is fine for the vehicle.
l3arrett82 Yes, i was asking about snow getting sucked in the intake and then hydrolocking (i live in arizona, i dont know if the snow could pack itself into anything and thaw causing puddles or something. ive only driven in the stuff a few times, but it was a matter of getting from point a to point b, not play.) i just know that driving in the rain here will hydrolock during the monsoon season. i love watching the little honda civics and other crap cars hydrolock as the puddles come over their hoods XD
my cousin did it to a old 80 something model branco 2 a long time ago. we were 4 wheeling and he hit a 3 foot deep mud hole that had been wallered out by cab trucks with 52 inch tractor tires.
my cousin thought he could make it with speed, he hit it 3rd gear about 40 mph. branco died instantly.
it had 33 10.50 thornbird tsl's on the rear and bald street tires on the front but that thing would go any where. except swimming lol
