Good thing that the gate was Oppen and not Closen at Oppenheimer Beach so you could get in! lol! 🤣 Sorry, a little immature humor after seeing the Oppen part of the word directly above the doorway! Weather and surf was bad, but even a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work!
Hey guys, I've got two words to say to you: SALT POND! Didn't you guys think to ask around about the beaches on the south shore? That's where everyone goes when the north shore acts up. Nice and calm. Oh well, maybe next time.
Lived there 20 years ago , loved it . I remember always hitchhiking around all the time . Remember to point the derection you're going don't use a thumb. Thank you for some memory lane .
Thats cool. Despite all the tourism there now, It still feels like a sleepy little island. Normally we wouldn't hitchhike, but it seems totally cool and safe to do it there
Great video- not typical showing what to do on a rainy day. Never saw waves like that on the N. shore but our boat Captain told us he has seen them. Thanks for the parking tip- never knew that. We usually just park at the STJ rental car lot after hours but having options is always good- especially if eating in town. High Tide is always a hit for quick, casual with a view. We also really like Morgan's Mango, Ocean 362 at Gallows Point and The Terrace.
Yep, unfortunately during high season, the northern swells are a common occurrence on St. John. But you did the right thing by going to Hansen Bay where the beach faces south. Definitely good to have the east end beaches in your arsenal for times like those!
Too bad the weather didnt cooperate more for you guys, it's an amazing island and Cinnamon Bay is absolutely TEAMING with AN INSANE amount of sea creatures of all shapes and sizes --you can see them snorkeling way out to the extreme right -- large tarpon like 6 feet and huge bait balls - it's nuts --- ya'll should have checked it out --we snorkel all over the world and saw the best snorkeling on St. John at Cinnamon Bay, walk down to the rocks and snorkel to the right of the rocks --- it's deep but crazy great ...and in Cinnamon in genreal you will see HUGE bait balls but BE CAREFUL, don't get in the bait balls as the larger fish feed off of the fish in these balls!!! They will be beneath you and darting through
Yeah we made the best of it, Wasn't really that bad, we just had super nice conditions the day before and we were surprised that it changed that much overnight
I would say yes, just as long as you follow all common sense rules. I wouldn't probably be on the beach after dark or in the back alleys of Cruz Bay or anything
Yes, St John is a very safe island. Even as a female traveling alone you should be totally fine. I travel with my husband but I wouldn’t hesitate to go to St. John by myself. St. John is usually a pretty quiet island but it has been busy during COVID because most of the islands have been closed to outsider travel. So there are others on the beaches. In Cruz Bay you may run into so people with mental health issues as there aren’t a lot of mental health facilities available on the island. We just steer clear and have never had a problem..We’ve been to St. John every year for the past 7 or so years. We love it. Exercise normal precautions like not leaving anything in your vehicle ( we leave our doors unlocked and leave absolutely nothing in it- why make it tempting), not wandering around late at night, keeping your rental door locked when you go out, etc. Basically, the same stuff you do at home.
Ship us there now. Like...right...now. I would have zero problem if I got slapped by the high surf while sitting down watching surfers. But if there's electronics? Yeah, that's an issue. I also know plenty well when the better half is correct, Kevin. It's OK.
I would love taking pictures to was that you in the red bikini great video can you put a tent out there and camp for a couple of days would they say anything
Took your advice on the ferry from st Thomas. Thanks! What a great day
Fantastic! Glad you had a good trip

A bad day at the beach is better than a good day at home! Looks great!
That's true!
Gorgeous even on a rainy day! ❤
When it rained we snorkeld. Warm water and even when it rains its still over 80.
That's a good way to spend a rainy day
Great video, thank you!
Nice tour.....looks like the palms have really been wiped out.....thanks fir the video..
Thanks for watching!

It was nice to check out that side of the island as well, we had not been over there yet
The sea is always very rough during March and April. Almost drown at Cinnamon Bay when I use to live there.
The best thing in the world -and very romantic- is swimming in the ocean while it's raining. Trust me- it's awesome!
I absolutely AGREE YES YES YES
Should have gone to Francis Bay. It's a deeper bay and probably would have been calmer.

St. John has so many snakes. Alot of them hyper deadly. My wife almost died from a snake bite.
Hate when weather ruins a beach day but looks like you guys had fun anyway!
Yeah we made the best of it, Wasn't really that bad, we just had super nice conditions the day before and we were surprised that it changed that much overnight
OMG just found your channel, but you have amazing videos
That burger looks incredible
It was so good! 10/10 recommend Skinny Legs if you're ever in St. John
Did you try any Island dishes?
Rough North Shore means a trip to South Shore.
This was soooo cool, you guys! Thank you for sharing your adventure with us!
Poor babies. That is considered normal surf on the South Shore of Long Island. This is normal for the winter months.
We're from southern California, we know what surf is
Is St. John safe for a female solo traveler?
I would say yes, just as long as you follow all common sense rules. I wouldn't probably be on the beach after dark or in the back alleys of Cruz Bay or anything
@@TheAwkwardTourists that seems reasonable. Loved my time on Oahu and would like to try other beach spots other than Florida.

We lost our phones to rising waves a few years ago when we were snorkeling and left them on the beach. We have been a little more cautious since then!
@@TheAwkwardTourists YES! We never shoot video on the beach unless we're with someone who we trust to guard our other electronics.
I would love taking pictures to was that you in the red bikini great video can you put a tent out there and camp for a couple of days would they say anything
They have designated campsites on the beaches, You can stay there for a small fee. But they wont let you camp just anywhere
@@TheAwkwardTourists ok..
