As a person who goes to St. John quite often, you can never get bored! It's the perfect place and I have been going as long as I can remember (quite literally)
Just finished watching your St. John, US Virgin Island travel video and I gotta say, I loved it! The footage was amazing and you guys really captured the essence of the island. I've been following your adventures for a while now, and I gotta say, you guys are a true inspiration! Your passion for travel is contagious, and your videos always put a smile on my face. Thanks for sharing your journey with us and for taking us along for the ride. I'm so excited to see where your travels take you next! Keep up the awesome work, and I'll be eagerly waiting for your next adventure.
Thank you so much. Comments like these are what fuels our passion for creating these videos. We sincerely appreciate your support and can’t wait to continue bringing you more incredible travel content!
When i was a teenager, my family and i vacationed to St. John and made so many memories that i cherish to this day. The place was like paradise. I long to go back, but it's very expensive. The white sand and clear blue warm water, Snorkeling in trunk and cinnamon bay, friendly locals, and the nightlife and drinks in the procelain parrot and monkey mugs, and dancing the night away. Breathtaking sunsets! The place was paradise back in early 2000s.
Next time you stop through ya'll should make a half-day/day trip of it. The beaches are so much nicer in our opinion. I've seen sea turtles on dives, but never that many so close!
A great place for a vacation. I spent six days at the Cannel Bay resort, which I understand is no longer in operation. Great beaches everywhere. Several good restaurants in Cruz Bay.
My husband and I started going there about 7 years ago. We had a friend of ours move there. Thanks for sharing your coconut experience. I truly love Ital, he is a very gifted man. It is always cool to see him in St. John videos! Great vlog!
He was such a fun personality to talk with and learn from, and he went and found some coconuts for us when he was running low when we would have just taken what he had, but he insisted.
Nice you got to see both Green and Hawkbill Sea Turtles... nice footage... Based on your initial map I thought you were going south shore over Gifft Hill to Centerline to Coral Bay. Threw me off when you stopped at Trunk :)
That’s awesome u guy got to explore St. John!! Great vlog! I’ve been going there with my family for 17 years now and we love it! Used to stay on St. Thomas then take the ferry over to St. John. Now we just stay at the Westin Hotel on St. John. Next time, u gotta explore Great Cruz Bay on St. John!!
Great video. I’m currently in St. John’s and coming back again in 30 days. You captured all my fav spots and as a TH-camr myself your footage is amazing.
I absolutely am loving y’all’s videos about the Virgin Islands! My family is traveling there next month and your videos are helping us plan out what we wanna do when we get there! Thank you guys so much for sharing your experience with everything🫶🏻 I look forward to watching more of your videos!
@thedetourduo We're heading to STT and STJ in a month! Thanks for sharing your adventures. This has been helpful in planning our trip. We're a national park family and super pumped for STJ! We've been posting faceless travel content for a couple of years, but you've inspired us to get out from behind the camera and start sharing some of our own adventures!
Glad it was helpful! I think you will love it. and you should. Nothing wrong with faceless, but I strongly believe people want someone to relate to. It does take a lot of work to get comfortable in front of the camera
Gorgeous Again! Trunk bay is a hidden gem. Of course, when someone tells you not to do something... you want to do it. Who wouldn't want to ride Crush? (finding Nemo)
I visited St. John for the first time when I was about ten years old or so. Back in the mid 70's. It was pristine, There were no crowds, we stayed at the campground and there were land crabs everywhere. The coral and fish were amazing. I know this sounds weird but I went back last year and I was let down. The coral was gone,j as you can see it is so crowded. Things change in 50 years.
Thank you. It's a lot of gear. We have a list in our description if you want to see visuals of our gear, it's always changing though. Basically, I use a sony a7sIII as the main camera. Osmo action 4. Insta 360 x3, and at the time of making this video, I was using a dji Mavic 3. I use the mini 4 pro now for travel.
No, only near the bays is safe to fly. Most of the island is a national park. However, they don't really care if you film there. Granted, we were there right when they announced the new policy for filming in national parks, but all the Rangers we asked and emailed didn't seem to care.
Love your videos! I will be traveling to St. John in a few weeks. I will be taking my daughter who is disabled. She loves the beach! May i ask, do the beaches have rental chairs? Also i noticed a few of the beaches you visited had stairs, is that the only way to enter onto the beach? Thank you!
Maho bay leads straight to the beach. That's our favorite and probably your safest bet. Can't recall about the others. I want to say Truck Bay had a ramp to get to the beach. Hope you both have so much fun!
Awesome video! I’m planning to visit in the coming weeks to st Thomas and plan a day to St. John’s. Is it recommended to rent a jeep while driving in the island or would I be fine with a FWD like a RAV4? I read st Thomas is pretty okay with the roads, but St. John has a lot of steep roads. I plan to stop by the places you showed in the video. Btw amazing videos! It’s helping me plan my up coming trip for my gf bday 😁
Thanks. That's an awesome birthday trip! I'm sure you'll both love it. To answer your question it's going to be a bit long winded. . .From our experience it was actually harder to drive in St Thomas than St John. St Thomas had more steep elevation and a higher speed limit so it took more getting used to. (didn't help that our airbnb was on top of a mountain either) St John on the other hand is mostly a National Park so the speed limit is pretty consistently 35 or slower. You don't need a jeep but definitely need to rent a vehicle that can handle that elevation. Plenty of cars there weren't 4WD, but you have more peace of mind with 4WD. All the roads are well paved though. Also: be sure to check with your rental company on whether or not you can take their vehicle to the other islands. We had an amazing rental service called "Dexters" they were great about us taking the jeep back and forth and were even completely understand when a kid hit our jeep while it was parked. For sure recommend them, but just do your research with rental companies. We heard horrible stories about some getting really nasty for people taking cars to the other islands or taking the tops off the jeeps
@@TheDetourDuo I appreciate the long winded response! That is what I was reading regarding the car rental situation and going to St. John’s. Don’t get me started on the terrible 1-star reviews left on the big name car rental company’s by the airport. Glad to hear from your first hand experience and I decided to pull the trigger on a Jeep rental from Dexters. The experience with them so far has been seamless and their fast responsiveness is reassuring. Looking forward to our trip and I’ll definitely be trying the pain killer! 🍹 I’ll be sure to watch your other videos as well. Thank you for your help.
I went to Rams Head sometime in early 1981 for a 6th grade class trip. I don't know if you know, but that is where the slaves that revolted on STJ threw themselves off of to die rather than be captured. There are stories about those vats in the sugar plantations and "bad" slaves being thrown into them, alive. There was a good chance in the 1700s and 1800s if you ate sugar products, you were a cannibal.
Do you plan on driving in St Thomas? Depends on what you want to fit into your vacation. You don't really need a car to visit St John for the day. The passenger ferry is cheaper and there's a few buses and taxis that go to the beaches. Keep in mind though, there aren't may means of public transport on St John so give yourself enough time to make it back, especially if you want to go to the opposite end of the island. I would aim for at least getting back before the second to last ferry. That way you don't have to worry about missing it and spending the night on the island, and you don't have to worry about it being completely full with stragglers.
We are spending 8 days in the usvi... and I can't figure out how much cash we should be bringing? Are there a lot of atms or should we bring it with us?
Depends on where you're staying and how you plan to get around. We really didn't need cash other than at local restaurants but there are ATMs in the heavy traffic areas. In St John I only remember seeing them in Cruz Bay. You'll definitely want cash there. In St Thomas, I feel like we only ever had about 100 or so on us then found an ATM pretty easily when we exhausted that amount. Plus you don't want to be carrying around loads of cash. Sorry, don't know how helpful my rant was 😅
My fiancé and I are getting married this July. We’re thinking of going to the U.S. Virgin Islands ( St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John) which island do you recommend for us ? We would like a location with less tourist. We’re aiming for peace and quiet. We are not a bougie couple. Thanks in advance.
💯% St John if you want peace and quiet and fewer tourists. Just know if you want to film anything for your wedding St john is majority a national park, and they all require permits to film in the US
@angelaguilar2916 we actually stayed on st Thomas but we rented a jeep for the week so it was easy for us to island hop. But St John is supposed to have some gorgeous b&bs. We just didn't stay in one there
@angelaguilar2916 car rental is expensive. We went through a company called Dexter's. Highly recommend. They even got us a jeep and we booked super last minute. The snorkeling at Salt Pond is really good. Great after hiking Ram’s Head. Snorkeling at Maho is better than Trunk by far. Next time you are in Coral Bay try Miss Lucy’s. They have the best grouper sandwiches. Service can be slow but worth the wait
Thanks for the rec. We were thinking about going to Miss Lucy's too. Apparently they have either karaoke and/or live music there from what we were told.

100% agree. If you like island/beach life it's absolutely perfect.
