      As someone who used to work in the homeshopping department as a manager I really appreciate this, the amount of times new labels would fall off totes because of the old ones and it messes up the whole system!

    Hey, so I’m an Ocado Driver and have been for almost 3 years, our delivery radius is MASSIVE! But this is because we don’t have stores and deliver from depots and obviously have far less depots that other supermarkets have stores, so I can do anything up to 250 miles on my route, I do ten hour days 4 days a week, driving the whole time, the major difference and I would say advantage to Ocado drivers over other supermarkets is that we don’t load our vans, we arrive, get told what van reg we are in and the departure time and then find our van, do our van checks and then leave, I do Am’s start at 5.30 and finish at 3.30

      Wow! And I only did 70 miles yesterday aha. There’s a local OCADO MORRISONS depot to where I work, I always see them out in force.

      At Tesco I only work evenings and my vans already loaded for me on arrival thank goodness. Saying that though, sometimes you wish you did loads your own van...

    With the COVID19 pandemic it showed how important and VITAL you are to elderly and disabled people..

    Hey, cool video! I'm also an Asda driver haha. I've only been doing it for 3 months so far, but it's the best job I've had, far less stress than my previous jobs! At our store, we go out really far, delivering to mid Wales all the way out to the coast. Will probably keep doing this job for quite a while I think, driving is a lot more chill than working in store imo :)

    We have had Asda deliveries for a few years now and the driver's are always pleasant and in the time frame.
    We live in rural North Wales and the vans have to travel 40 miles from the nearest delivery store.
    I did van sales for 10 years and loved it in the days you weren't tracked like today's drivers are.
    Good luck.

  • @tonyjoe5707
    @tonyjoe5707 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I used to asda driving, but we used mainly back loaders then. Much better when it rained and you didn't lose any labels. We were also allowed to ring the customer and deliver early if customer was OK with it.

      The corporate greed seems to have got quite bad now especially since these new owners took over. Often far too many drops and more loads than there are drivers so they end up splitting loads up and giving everyone extras on top of their own extras so you're late out for your second load before you've even got back. Having said that you do sometimes get good days where you're more steady away.

    I'm an Iceland delivery driver. I've only been doing the job for 2 months but it's so much better than working in any shop. I say that with 8 years of retail experience under my belt. Personally, I find the customers so much nicer, and easier to talk to and I never do the same route twice. Yes, I deal with the same areas, but I'm very lucky as I don't have to deal with flats.
    As for the delivery aspect, all the information I need is either on the gun or on a sheet of paper that gives me the names and addresses of the customers. although we have a new system coming in this week which doesn't show the customer name and only shows it as the order number, making it easier for the drivers to short deliveries and easier to load and unload them.

    • @JackDelivers
      @JackDelivers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, nice! Yeah I agree with that, much more prefer doing this over working in a shop now. I don’t think I could really go back to in store working after very easily!

    I worked for ASDA as a delivery driver up in the Scottish Highlands, I no longer work there, as I left to go work on lorries (as you mentioned you hope to do potentially!) The job itself was alright, one of the major drawbacks though was the unpredictable pattern of hours, I was using it as my full time job, and once we've completed our runs for the day, we're expected to help in store, however it's more like being told to go home early as they don't train us on in-store procedures.
    What ends up happening is you'll have two choices, Go back to the store hours early and get told to go home and finish, or sit in a layby until 10pm comes around, both of which were never ideal.
    Benefits of it? Being in the Scottish highlands, Our first delivery could be more than 2 and a half hours away, in a day, doing 250-350 miles daily is not out of the norm. So if you enjoy driving, it was a good gig.
    Overall we cover the entirety of the North East & General north area of the Scottish Highlands so its a very VAST area.
    But for all it is, I did it during COVID as was made redundant at the beginning of the pandemic, it bid me over until I could obtain my Class 1 and obtained a role in the industry.

    • @JackDelivers
      @JackDelivers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, I can imagine the scenery you have up there is amazing. I love visiting scotland, unfortunately it’s not quite the same in the Midlands in England hah. But yeah definitely agree, thankfully my store is really good and will find you something to do to get the hours up - even train you on the picking if you wanted to do it.
      I have my Class 2 HGV test in just over a week. A little excited for it if I’m honest, have to start some where! :)

    Former Ocado driver here. Funnily enough this video popped up for me the day after I left. Think my spoke had a radius of at least 80 miles and on average I'd be doing like 60 miles in a day, but the most I did in a day was maybe like 140 miles, excluding the days where I got sent to other spokes that were in other parts of the country.
    It's definitely not a job for everyone and it has it's pros and cons. I personally enjoyed the driving and exploring as before I hadn't really gotten out of London much but the actual delivering part takes a toll on you, any fellow CSTMs can probably relate to driver notes being like "dani off, terrible parking, 3rd floor no lift" and it's like 4 heavy totes you have to take up.

    Gave up my 18 year career to do this job with the well known supermarket with orange branding. Training was pathetic and via a touch pad and we were expected to adhere to times even when delivering along narrow and dangerous rural roads with occasional rude customers. It was not for me unfortunately and driver turnover was/is very high. Management only cared about themselves. Some people seem to breeze this job, others not, I certainly regretted it..... PS: definitely would not have had time to set up a camera for a blog!!!!

    8.5 year Asda driver. It's a decent gig, but has been on a long slippery slope for a number of years now. My main worry as of late is they seem to be inching closer and closer to Iceland, from which I've heard nothing but nightmares. Same day deliveries on afternoon/evening vans are a pain and are pushing section leaders and managers to the absolute limit. They brought in all-day same days a few weeks ago, same days on the morning vans. That went completely tits up and they got rid of it within two weeks. It's far from the worst job in the world and if you're at a store that has some rural drops it can be like getting paid to just go on a day out and drop off some shopping along the way. Where I'm based is a smaller store with a very small delivery area and it's all suburbs so it gets VERY boring but thankfully we don't go into the city center so get very few high rises. Good job but ready to move on now, about to get onto Class 2 HGV. I'd recommend doing it for no more than two or three years to get the experience and then start thinking about moving up. It's just a job, not a career.

    • @JackDelivers
      @JackDelivers  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yep.. I’ve heard about iceland and these same day deliveries can be a nightmare. I actually just got my HGV Class 2, signed up to an agency to get a bit of extra work. It’s definitely worth while for a driving career to be honest, may do Class 1 one day but I am a uni student so probably won’t stay in driving for a super long time.
      But like you say, far from the worst job out there.. and I like my staff (and gosh forbid management) at my store. Everyone is nice and it makes it 10x better.

    We have Asda each week. They drive around 30-40 miles to us round the coast. I suspect Norfolk is one place the drivers will like due to the nice countryside. Could you show us how you separate the customers shopping and know what’s what on larger runs is it straightforward and simple process ? Do they also provide you the uniform ?

    • @JackDelivers
      @JackDelivers  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      So the totes are ordered by labels, they say B / M / F (back / middle / front) of the van and a number on them to tell you what row they go on. Back are loaded first then middle then front.
      Each tote has an order number which is listed on the run sheet and device set you use as a satnav so you know what totes are for what house. They will also be in the ordered you loaded them in. It is relatively simple although sometimes you may get duplicated labels but easily sorted out by double checking.
      Yes uniform is provided! I just normally wear a regular black t-shirt because I only have long sleeve company shirts and don’t like long sleeve.

      Make sure you have any previous experience of customer service or driving in mind, they may ask you some questions on what you would do in some certain cases. Just be honest and say what you’d do! Take your driving license and right to work documents with you as well as they may want to take a copy on the day. Goodluck! A friendly smile and a positive attitude will take you a long way for it. :))

    Hi mate looking to apply! How does the training work? Do you go out with another driver in the passenger seat for the first week? And then drive?

    • @JackDelivers
      @JackDelivers  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey! So your first 4 shifts (or atleast for my store) are ‘buddy runs’. Each time you take on more repsonsibility, so first shift you will be the passenger and observe, second you may start to learn to use the mobile device, third you will use the device and help unload etc and then on the fourth buddy run you will be doing the run yourself but watched by the other driver (so you will load, drive, unload yourself).
      Hope that makes sense! :)

      Nothing too much mate, just dress smart casual and take your right to work documents - bring a smile and be keen I guess. If you’ve got this far there’s a good chance you’ll end up with the job!

    Genuine question, where is your shirt from? Looks like a Police shirt? Dont happen to be a Special?

    • @JackDelivers
      @JackDelivers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe… I don’t have any short sleeve work specific shirts and there’s no markings on it to identify, I’m surprised you got that from a shirt.

      I secure it now with the seatbelt after a previous comment mentioned it! However the company has new sack barrows now that are designed for the front with a specific restraint.

      @@markharriers4694if you clock out and leave early you get pay deducted from your contracted hours. The store won't mind as they'll be paying less wages.

      Definitely not enough. I used to drive and service, but work in store now. I've always said the drivers should be paid more than shop floor staff for the job they do. Especially the grief that sometimes comes with it.

Idea for you tone down the music a bit 😟 I'm watching this at 7am Sunday morning and finding music way to over the top to noise just pick better music and you will be bang on. This music will put watchers off, other than that it's great vidio. Cheers
