  • Heidegger and the Question of Being | Lecture by Andreas Wasmuht, Monday 9th October 2023, Queen Square, Bath.
Martin Heidegger was the most important and controversial philosopher of the twentieth century. His masterpiece, Being and Time, explores what it means to be human, and challenges many of western philosophy’s cherished concepts. The question of being is not simply another ‘concept’ but a philosophy of life in which we are immersed.
Being and Time is one of, if not THE most difficult philosophical works to digest and it is the task of Andreas Wasmuht to explore the key notions in a way which provides a clear insight into what it means to be human using Heidegger’s magnum opus.

'One day , everyone will see that Being and Time aims at abolishing the human being and its priority in philosophy and appreciating Beyng alone in its essencing. Everyone will see that not only subjectivity but also the role of the human being is shaken up with Da-sein. How else should the abolition of the human being be brought to fruition than by traversing through its essence. However, in so doing, the essence is from the very first step determined from the relation to being (understanding of being).' Heidegger: Overcoming Metaphysics (1938/39).
