    I watched this movie again yesterday at work. My dad who had passed on in 2016 was depicted in this movie, he was a man with a very large heart, I connected with it as tears ran down my face just thinking about him. He helped so many people just like Edward Bloom did. People always sing his praise till date, they keep speaking of his good works and how he helped them and how they are never going to see another man like him.
    In his house this man was raising his wife's nieces and nephews including his own nieces and nephews with extended family. At a time we were over 30 people in the house that he was feeding both at our country home and city home.
    He is gone, he played his part with so much sacrifice and never thought of himself or family. All he gave us was a good name and legacy.
    Sadly today lots of people he helped never consider to help his family.
    Growing up now, I realized that he was a BIG FISH.

    My philosophy teacher showed this to us in high school and I just rewatched it because my spirit guide told me to. Cried a bunch. Even though I am a daughter, it made me realize how fathers just want to portray how they want to be seen as to their kids without knowing that sometimes their kids just want to get to know them as a person and have them not be afraid to show themselves as human. I hardly know many stories of mine so found it really hard to connect to him or understand him emotionally. It is part of the reason why it has been hard to form an intimate bond with any man. I believed up until this point that I had to hold onto the stories he told me and what I told myself as a result- sometimes stories trap us, if they are not true to who we are. It is indeed time for me to let go of all the old stories and live my own truth in this world, not the one that my father made me feel like I have to live.

    • @StanBarkerProperties
      @StanBarkerProperties 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I find funny is... I have lived a life less ordinary. Too many crazy stories to share here. Back stage with Stevie Ray Vaughn 3 times (I have his guitar pick). On set and living with cast and crew of Extreme Makeover - Home Edition. Running Pylon cameras for ESPN at a Patriots game. Getting on stage and whipping a crowd of 10,000 into a frenzy before a show. Driving completely naked out of NYC with my GF at 3am after hanging with Tom Petty, Joey Ramone, Del Fuegos, Georgia Satellites, Steven Wright. I can not explain how I found myself in these places... I just do. So... this movie resonates with me because I have a hard time convincing people of the stories in my life. I have a hard time convincing myself of it. LOL So... I point them to this film and simply say... "it's all true". In spite of how crazy it all sounds. Not trying to be braggy. Just trying to come to terms with how weird this ride has been

    I like the iceberg reference, 10% of his stories were real, whilst 90% were lies. Though this seems like he was being inauthentic, it's in fact the opposite. He was been himself; a really good, enthusiastic storyteller. The doctor describes it best when he says that he prefers to hear the interesting story as opposed to how it actually happened. People want to hear about brave and interesting feat such as catching the big fish. This movie was very much the son's journey towards understanding his father.

    Much of the movie set still exists on Jackson Lake Island in Elmore County, Alabama. My wife and I took our little grandson there last weekend. The buildings are showing their age, but most are still standing. Over 100 goats now inhabit the island - most are quite friendly and enjoy a scratch of their heads. It's a great place to visit, camp, or have a picnic.
