Seriously thinking about this as my next vehicle. I don’t need to tow very often. Looking at the utility for carrying mulch/dirt sometimes small furniture. Seems to be a good all around utility vehicle. We have had 2 other Hondas and have loved them. Our current one is a 2006 pilot with 245,000 miles on it. It runs like the day we bought it. Other than maintenance, we’ve done 3 repairs in that time.

That's exactly what we do with the 2007 Ridgeline purchased new. Mulch, furniture, appliances. Since July this summer new small refrigerator new small chest deep freezer. Set of old 94 Accord original wheels with snow tires mounted on. Been stored in basement under steps. Traded that car in for 2000 Acura Dec 99. Just junk but sister wanted tires for flower planters in yard.

In my '21 RTL, the R to D delay is about 2 seconds when cold and 1 sec when warmed up.. Gets a solid 28.5 mpg at 65mph.. Rides like an Accord and easy to park.. Pulls my 4000 pound travel trailer no problem and gets 14+ mpg while doing so.. I did have to buy an external brake controller because no integrated brake controller is available from Honda..

Just bought a 2022 RTL-E 3 weeks ago. Great vehicle. Only negatives are that any design change cost money and should provide some benefit. The push button tranny provides zero benefit. I also question the wisdom of shutting down 3 cylinders during cruise considering potential long term effects on the engine, so I bought a disable wire harness to disable the ECO function. Same with auto stop/start. Lots of added wear and tear on the motor mounts, battery, starter, etc. Drive with that function shut off. That said, this truck does everything my F-150 did being I'll never go off road rock climbing.

Yeah I just got one a month ago and I told my older friend at work about the automatic engine shut off at stop lights when you're idle and he told me to turn it off you don't need that wear and tear on your engine. I don't use eco mode anyways but when I drive I always press the auto off switch so it doesn't turn my engine off when I stop at a stoplight or stop sign

I bought a clean used 2017 RTL E 3 years ago for $32k and it was worth it. I consider it a Pilot pickup. Good for taking care of around the house duties, very comfortable on the road, decent gas mileage. Handy under seat storage in the trunk and in the bed is excellent. My wife couldn't drive my Ram but is good with driving the RL so it fits better in the family. The prices they want for new ones seems to be too much but I guess that's the current crazy market.

Hey there Hawkeye. Thanks for your take on things. Quite accurate I believe but I don't agree with your dislikes with the exception of that transmission delay 👍. The excelleration and rear climate control is just peachy in my opinion. Honda isn't known for their strong AC which I do not like seeing I'm here in the desert SW. Also,, I don't like that Honda is slow to update the interior according to the Pilot standards. A special note is that although the platform is the same as the Pilot,, things have been beefed up in the truck to allow for bed weight capacities etc. You should mention that as it's important to note. This beefing up also speaks to longevity of the truck in general. Thanks again, r

Does this one have a leveling kit on it? front axle looks slightly raised up. Strongly considering this as my next vehicle, but Ridgeline's pretty far behind the times in terms of interior and tech. Especially when you look at the new Chevy Colorado that just was announced, or even other vehicle's from Honda's own lineup like the new gen civic and hrv.

Hmmmm, TECH? Perhaps you haven't looked at the tech seriously enough in this truck and consider also the drivetrain sophistication. If your door is ajar,, this truck will not move. EVERYTHING is sensed and controlled. (as for me,, I could use a little less tech as I fear the guys working on these types of issues will not be knowledgeable enough. Will take a Master Technician in all likelihood).

    • @jakes5530

All features that you can get in Honda’s own $19,000 civic. The omission of these features on a $45k vehicle is disappointing. Heads up display would also be a nice addition. It is good, some of the reasons for this is the VSA which helps with traction. This system with apply braking to wheels(if the vehicle starts to slip) and slow down the vehicle. The TCS (traction control system) will help with tire spin by reducing torque to the wheels and it has good clearance as well as brake force distribution.

Yeah John,, gouging for sure and I don't see the overall reason. Much of this truck is designed by an American Team, strange as this may seem. There's quite a bit of little nuances that are not realized unless one looks into it such as the doors go very low to cover the sil and when the ladies get in on a less than perfect day,, their clothes won't need to clean this off during the entry. This was designed by the American Team purposely.

I agree on price but you get almost same vehicle as Honda Pilot ,Passport.. Ridgeline is Unibody pickup truck with Rear Independent Suspension. The other Body-On Frame with leaf set-up. Exception Santa Cruz is much smaller.
Dodge has coil spring set-up Full-Size.

OK on the shifting, its less than a second to change gears..Secondly I have shopped 65000 dollar trucks from Ford GM and Toyota and there are no climate controls in the back. This is a Ridgeline not an 85000 dollar Escalade or Denali I looked at a 70000 dollar GMC Denali the other day guess what no heads up display. This must be a great truck if you are comparing it to something costing 80 to 90 K and thats the only complaints.. I am getting 24.9 mpg over 5000 miles. If these are the things keeping you from owning this truck be ready to shell out an extra 30K. My 22 RTL-E MSRP was under 45K not 50K.

Don’t like the fact that the transmission on my 2022 won’t shift into 9th until I hit 67mph. I do most of my driving at 60-62(8th) and get worse mileage than if I drive 68? When I figure the difference in speeding ticket cost vs lost mpg I put up with driving in eighth gear. Three different dealers tell me that the transmission can’t be re programmed to shift earlier. One service advisor even tried to tell me that 9th was for the people driving in Germany on the autobahn?? Really?? Other than a few small issues, wind noise, thin paint in spots and a poor radio tuner, it’s a pretty nice truck.

Fyi, you can paddle shift it to 9th even in D mode (and I have econ mode off always), not just S. I do this when driving 55-62 mph on normal hwy driving here in WI, end result is 27-28mpg highway and 24 combined, and I just have to occasionally touch the paddle shift. Hope this helps. I suspect the high mph to engage 9th automatically was to maximize results in EPA testing.

No full size spare tire. Dents easy, paint peals down to the metal like there is no primer. Automatic transmission is junk. Honda has always had the worst paint jobs. Plastic fake chrome is lame, because everyone knows it isn't metal, but a vinyle sticker that will peal off and bubble up like on a 1998 Dodge Ram. Drive by wire is dangerous, and causes accidents. The bed is smaller than the 1st gen, and ride height is lower. A K&N air filter will give the 1st gen a extra 10hp, but power dosen't matter with a 110mph speed govenor set so every 4 cylinder can catch up with you. You're not getting away from anyone in a Ridgeline. A Dodge Dart will outrun the Ridgeline.
