- Today I'm paddling my Gumotex Rush 1 inflatable kayak on Loch Ken near Galloway.
This is a 9km round trip. Leaving from a public slipway next to an old railway bridge and making my way to Galloway Activity Center further upstream.
Weather changed several times during this short journey but overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience.
A highly recommended visit for any kayaking adventurer!
Let's go paddling!
Gear used:
Gumotex Rush1 inflatable kayak
Epic Small Mid Wing paddle
That sky with patches and blue, those mountains in the background...Man I wish it'd be easier to cross that little pond and come over to the UK to paddle. Thanks for sharing Tom
If you're ever near London and I'm not at work, we can always paddle on Thames. A license is needed to paddle in England, though (no exams, only a payment). 😉
@@LetsGoPaddling Oh really? How much do you have to pay for that license?
Prices vary depending on different options but the most basic one for a single paddler is 47£ a year. That allows you to access most of the rivers, some lakes, and includes a liability insurance.
I haven't checked but daily/weekly passes for a given waterway (Thames for instance) can also be purchased somehow.
Wow this is so beautiful and quiet. It must be relaxing to enjoy the view, reflections and nature. Enjoy and thank you for sharing it with us.
I only wish all of it was closer to where I live. This was a project at work and I just took all my equipment with me to paddle in any free time. Otherwise, going to Scotland is a huge expedition.
@@LetsGoPaddling yes I must certainly be many hours of driving.
It's 600 miles from my place of residence to Inverness (Loch Ness) so that's nearly 1000km. Reaching Loch Ken via Dumfries is 400 miles from me so around 640km.
Gorgeous! Whenever I see an island on a lake like that my first thought is "ooh, potential campsite!"
It looked deserted but I'm not sure if there weren't any birds nesting, on the other side for instance. 🙃
What a stunning place to paddle! That really makes me want to paddle in Scotland one day. You were really lucky with the weather mostly too.
Well, Loch Ore was beautifullly sunny but those 50kph gusts... 🤣
Loch Lomond trip had to be aborted. 😓
I still have one more from this trip - Castle Loch near Lochmaben.
Additionally, I was sent to SW Scotland again in mid October and managed to visit Loch Doon. 😅
Great place to kayak do you know many islands there are would love to kayak camp it some day
There are just a few small islands on Loch Ken, most at the northern end. They probably can be camped on but the one I showed in the video looked like a bird breeding ground so I'd be careful when choosing one.
