    Philippines definitely has huge potential. Unfortunately it has too many entrenched monopolies that curtails competition and growth. This is why FDI rate are pretty low in the Philippines. In almost every economic sector there are 1-2 monopoly giants that completely dominate the sector. This is why the Philippines economy is hampered by the same few billionaires that owns almost everything.

    Philippines, like Vietnam has great potential for further growth. Coupled with an English speaking community, the country has yet to unleash its true strength. Its only drawback is their bureaucracy and little confidence in the government that is continually changing hands (fear that policies will change against foreign investors' favour). Otherwise, it can be a regional powerhouse.

      Vietnam is completely different though because it's a one party state that can more easily bring in FDI and improve infrastructure. Investors have a lot more confidence in VN than PH. And Viets also tend to be more focused on education, there's a more skilled workforce. And it's not an island country, it has a huge coastline, its easy to move goods north to south than in PH

    This is by far the most informative video I've seen explaining our economic status What the PH lacks is a niche to fill. A signature product to export. But as shown in the video, instead of specific goods our government should invest and help the BPO industry so we can monopolize that service sector. Another service sector our government should try to tap on is shipping and logistics. With a worldwide supply chain problem and the downfall of Greek merchant fleet which dominated shipping of trade goods since the 70's, there's an open niche to be field. And PH is well suited to fill this niche cause we have a lot of skilled and experienced seamen and we are strategically located right in the middle of one of the world's bussiest trading routes while also being a gateway to asia from the pacific.

    • @Rex_Nichts
      @Rex_Nichts ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yeah, we should absolutely invest more on maritime vessels because we're an archipelago. We need a more robust connection between islands, not just some few ferryboats. That way, we can have a single cultural identity and our people be unified more than ever.

    • @michaelconstantinemiranda2352
      @michaelconstantinemiranda2352 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Rex_Nichts spot on. We are an archipelago, plenty of shoreline with natural deep water ports and have a strategic position on the map. Add that to the fact that every cruiseline, trade ships and bunkers there's always gonna be a Filipino that's part of the crew why not create our own merchant fleet like Maersk and dominate int'l logistics. We have the ports and manpower, what's lacking is capita, lots of it. If I were the administration I would try to partner with SM and/or San Mig Corp to venture in shipping and logistics.

    • @huskybr0wn
      @huskybr0wn ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As the dominant provider of labor for the Maritime and Shipping Industries, its a good strategic move to invest in the development of shipping infrastructure, starting with small and medium size cargo, ferry and boats, then moving into global large ships for cargo and even building cruise ships. We cannot forever be the "slaves" to shipping. We should consider owning the ships.

      Not when oligarchs have monopoly on certain industries without competition. "Nationalism" has always been the excuse to corner the market. No wonder your utility bills are way higher than compared to Thailand for example. You, the Filipino consumers have to foot the bill for their greed. First, the setting up of reliable power grids are important. One of the infrastructure that is a must with airports, bridges and roads. Another is that your people has to be taught not to pollute your natural environment with trash all over. Old manila is dated and really not clean in many places with illegal vendors and residential areas forced to be located in one area. I saw the development plans from way back and nothing has been followed. Eco-tourism is a good money maker for ordinary Filipinos if your people learn to clean up their litter, remove graffiti and illegal shanties which clogged up waterways they used as sewage. Forced these migrants to return to their provinces. I have seen videos where the countryside are sometimes littered with plastic bags, bottles and baby pads. Your country is blessed with one of the better natural environment. Make use of it in a better way.

It was propaganda views and mostly the plebeian venting their grievance in public.There were no mass communication back then. But no, its not art. Graffiti came about during the 80's and late 70's from the american thug culture in the ghettoes which were commercialised later. Tagging is not art. I see it in Europe and it is horrible. They ruin legacy architecture and they pretend its art. Sorry to say that it is not art because it is american thug culture prettied up into the popular culture and then exported out of here. Some people made money out of this trash. Art uplifts human beings with what is beautiful and makes order out of this chaotic world. But then again the baser instincts can always be exploited by greed.They always do. Keep your country clean and progressive economically but be traditional.There is a reason why Singapore punished vandals severely.

    With our new President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. (PBBM) now concentrating on economic recovery program e.g. energy generation including oil, natural gas and deuterium exploration; opening & liberalizing further the foreign direct investments and modernizing the Agricultural sector, the Philippines will for sure be one the best performing economies in Asia and the rest of the world by the year 2030!
    This will coincide with the completion of the many on-going mega projects by the goverment all over the country and by the private sectors e.g. New Manila International Airport in Bulacan and the Sangley International Airport in Cavite.
    This is only the first time in our history that all the top 500 CEOs in the Philippines have volunteered to help PBBM in his quest for unprecedented economic growth😍!!

    -low exports
    -Low tourist arrival
    -Lots of untouched natural resources
    -Not that good agriculture sector
    -Low foreign direct investment
    Yet we still able to become “Newly Industrialized” through our SERVICE sector alone, and our GDP was able to become 3rd largest in Southeast Asia in previous rankings (I’m not sure about now lol). So, how much more if we really use our advantage especially our strategic location.
    Now, government is already exploring our natural resources especially oils and natural gas. We only need investors, we have strong labor force, we can definitely catch-up in exports. We have rich land for agriculture (though it’s calamity prone).
    We could definitely boost our economy, we have lots of available space compared to others.

      True. The elite wants full control over f I don’t stress ES. The academics wants control of infrastructures. That. Pretty much neutralize moving forward. Fortunately, the families continue to put emphasis on education like nursing, engineering, teaching, hotel management’ tourism, navigation… all to enhance global service industry be it in health, cruise, education, construction industries enough to create a momentum to educate the next generation, create secondary economic activities in retail, restaurant, entertainment industries in the country. Nowhere in Asia can service the US and other countries in diverse industries from airline reservation to investigating fraud in medical billing. Two million Filipino workers are in the business processing outsource jobs. Another plus that many countries don’t do is to help relatives finish college, not just your immediate family members. With a college diploma, they are more likely to be hired and have a higher chance aging job in the country and abroad. From example, my. Nephew makes 25,000 pesos per month as a nurse in Philippines. However, Singapore offered 100,000. Part or most that amount he will remit for better housing, better living conditions in Philippines which will stimulate the GDP of Philippines. Multiply that by millions who are abroad. So the greatest export is actually LABOR.

      Two of three points are attributed to the 60/40 FDI rule in the Philippine Constitution that started all ongoing problems. Speaking of electricity, it's expensive because of the lack of competition and monopoly which are caused by that rule.

    Vast natural resources in the Philippines are still intact due to country's law of natural resources preservation.
    Philippines has intact mountains of gold, and other precious metals. Philippines has vast reserve of Natural gas and Petroleum reserve, Philippines has ast of Deuterium reserve for hydrogen fuel. etc.... these reserves might cost of several hundred trillion dollars.

SoKor Hyundai. Germany BMW, Jaguar, Bugatti, Porsche. Italy Mercedez Benz, dukatti, Lamborgini, etc.. I think we too would starts our local car/vehicle industry not just oil explorations etc, seems these thing might change our economic performance a lot!

    foreign markets and investment have risks. ex. economy conflicts, control, infla, pricing and profit, environmental, etc. when you have your own food, what's infla and other issues?
    protecting your environment and guarding resources aren't issues. these are good around the world.

    I would rather have the philippines focus more on service, manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture economy than destroying it further for mining's sake. Service and tourism, no question about it, the country is spending so much to develop these sectors tremenduously. As for manufacturing, it needs to improve its laws to invite investors and also invest on green technology to minimize impacts on the environment with the rise of manufacturing sector. As for agriculture, Philippines just need to improve fertility and productivity of existing agricultural lands and prevent further conversion of these lands to urban developments.
