I don't think so. Mismanagement and corruption is still a problem. It'll be good if we can pay off past debt and get better credit rating. It all depends on the economic managers, and where they put the money.

Because of our history, we Filipinos don't like debt, but due to the pandemic, our government needed to borrow money to keep our economy generating. In the midst of the pandemic, our government became busy building a lot of infrastructure, giving a lot of jobs, and saving a lot of people from being jobless. The COVID hit us hard, but thanks to good governance, they did so well. Of course, corruption cannot be avoided in any government, but there have been significant improvements in governance in the Philippines... There are so many projects everywhere, and I think all these projects are created too, not just to help or ease the burden of Filipinos but to generate big income or tax for the government of the Philippines . For example, the subway in capital areas allows thousands of people to pass through or travel every day in these particular areas in shorter times, not including those from the provinces who travel to the capital city, so the government is not just creating projects but following blueprints of a plan that can lead or help the country economically.

It does, trains have tickets to buy before you can ride it so does skyways and expressways. Indirectly, businesses sprout in places where there are new highways and train stations. It also drives the cost of lands up and hence higher property and transfer taxes. It creates jobs and when there are jobs, people have money to spend and when there's money to spend, it stumulates economic activities and so it creates growth. For every one peso spent in public infrastructure, it has multiplier effect of 3 meaning it adds to the GDP 3x. It's the same strategy used by the father of modern economics in america when US experienced the great depression.

Actually, the more alarming situation is Japan and Singapore's indebtedness. These two countries' debt is even bigger than their economies. The Philippines had major banking and structural reforms that started with Cory and debt was well managed which enabled it to repay and bring down the debt to GDP ratio to 41% before Duterte came to power. Credit rating also went up several notches which helped reduce borrowing cost. It became more prosperous due to outsourcing and remittances which are major sources of foreign exchange. For the Philippines to really reach it's potential foreign investment restrictions should be removed from the constitution, there should be divorce and laws to put father's in jail if they fail to support their family. This will help cut population growth so the economy and resources can catch up without incurring too much debt.

Let's petition China to make the Philippines part of China. We can still have the Filipino Hispanized culture & just replace English with Mandarin. One country, many cultures. China already has a more modern infrastructure than the US, & It will surely develop the Philippines so well just to spite the US.
Pinoys are tired of democracy & poverty, China will be the magic wand to develop the Philippines. Already, 80% of the Philippine econony is controlled by Chinoys, why not make things official so China can develop our physical infrastructures
there will be GREATER Philippine pride under China once China develop the infra of the Philippines to spite the US. As it is, Filipinos have NO PRIDE under democracy & poverty.

@@milomilo417 Nope. China is also heavily indebted and millions of their own citizens are fleeing to Democratic countries. If the reforms are right we don't need to stick with a particular country to help boost our economy. In principle citizens of every country that allows Filipinos to buy land or invest in their own countries should get reciprocal treatment. The last thing we want is for one country to dominate commerce in our own backyard. Local bigwigs are way too greedy which is why prices in the Philippines particularly real estate and utilities are way too high relative to local incomes and why Pinoys have one of the lowest purchasing powers in the world. Millions of them leave the country coz wages are just too low.

Why don't you do research about the projects being built or have been built in our neighbors with the BRI? Also try to view some videos of Deborah Brautigam who did an in-depth study and research of China in africa, debt trap, or BRI projects. She and her organization actually have a database of every chinese company involved in the BRI and investigated each of them. The government already borrowed money to funds some complex infrastructures aka BBB thus adding to the trillion pesos national debt. This is a good debt I assumed if it was allocated properly. But still it is still a mystery that a government must borrow foreign funds, it only means no surplus funds. When plandemic happened, the government forced the economy to shutdown because of scamdemic no money for the government revenues. The government has to borrow foreign money because what they take from the taxpayers money are direct to the public funds, excluding loans that were directed to complex projects. All the BBB projects would really help out the economy and the people benefit it. But the reality is the national debt is now hitting almost ₱15T dollar, adds up to taxpayers burdens and future generations. The fiscal and the trade deficits has been increasing dramatically and the government hasn't done to allow foreign capitals in the economy to stimulate and create jobs. Also, the government does not create jobs, they create jobs through taxpayers this is not a productive economy, if taxpayers has to carry the burdens of so called "government subsidized jobs."
