Long time friend and client (whenever we meet on one's continent) James Anderson and the great CK Olena Doc, owned by Roberta and Gerald Fenner, at the Calgary Stampede Cowboy Up Challenge, Day 1.
It was their first time competing at such event and they took home $ 500,- day money right away!

Whenever the poll is not the highest point of the neck, the horse is overflexed. This horse's fifth vertebrae is the highest point. Ergo, by definition, this horse is overflexed.

Incorrect, when the horse is broken over at the third vertebrate (bent in the middle of the neck, you can see the huge bulge from the break over) instead of breaking at the poll, the horse is considered hyperflexed. The horse is hyperflexed and has a gaping mouth, is hollow and strung out behind. When he frees the head to do the movements(other than cantering) the horse is working better. Hyperflexion is everywhere, people just accept it as ok because they are not educated,

I was here!! I watched this live!

This was all extremely impressive, but would've been SO much more so if only the poor horse hadn't been TOTALLY overflexed. Did you notice when it was doing anything actually athletic (like walking through the brushpile) he had to let go of its face so it could succeed? Where did this "rollkeur" garbage take such hold? You'll never see headsets like that on polo ponies, or three day event horses, or foxhunters. . .anywhere your LIFE DEPENDS upon the horse getting you where you're going!

Wer so verdammt unsensibel und grob mit dem Pferdemaul umgeht sollte eigentlich sofort disqualifiziert werden!!! >:-(

"Really nice two point position here" all the English people start laughing. :) Aside from that though, great horsemanship!

but NOBODY cares when dressage horses are hyper flexed...

I think your reply is a bit dramatic. The idea was to show he could collect up his horse's head whenever he wanted but if you noticed, he did give him his head to accelerate.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was incredible!!!!! Holy smokes!! nice soft connection with no resistance to the bit. Complete rider to horse trust and communication! WAY. TO. GO!

careful Candida. That horse is not overflexed. Also, three day event horses have a dressage component. Remember that when you are looking at collection or flexation.

nope you wouldn't. This is a reiner and moves like a reiner .... totally different from a hunter.

Wow. Just saw this guy win Road to the Horse. He won the Wildcard Division then went on to win the entire competition. Awesome horseman and I would "slouch" every day on my horse if I could be even close to the horseman that he is! And I wish I could get my horse to "bridle up" up like this horse.

Lol sure i don't spell it right and i know that. Too busy to look up the correct spelling atm. I don't give a damn what you think. That horse was trained to keep his head down just like most horses. You don't like it then take your bleeding heart elsewhere

Now there is a well rounded horse and fabulous horsemanship! Horse looks happy too! Whoever gives this a thumbs down is an idiot. I feel for all the horses who are confined to doing nothing more than mindless circles (that mean nothing to the horse) in an arena....being yanked on with their big ass double bridles...forced into some "posture" to avoid the pain of the metal in their mouth.

Jazmine Mitts I noticed that too... this is supposed to be western riding, not English

Why on earth would you want to collect a horses head? The horse is clearly hyperflexed when cantering. A horse is taught collection from the hind to the front not the front with a gaping mouth and the hind end strung out behind.

something about the way tha horse kept opening his mouth against the bit really bothered me. :-(

this is a cowboy show i really liked to watch for once. the horse had a normal snaffle bit on, and galloped wonderfully calm over it's back, nice and round! yes i think the head was behind the vertical (overflexed) sometimes (not sure how you call it in english, i mean that the horses face from ear to nose should be vertical/in a 90degree angle to the ground). But still very good, i wish everyone would ride his horses that nicely!

You want to see rulkur? Fine. Rullkur is when the neck is UP and chin touches CHEST. You should be experienced in all things horse before accusing one of rulkuring. And you know what is illegal here in the us. So OBVIOUSLY he is not rulkuring that horse.
