  • Hello everyone, my name is Ilya, and I'm from Russia. Few people know, but I have an interesting hobby - paleontology. In this video I want to show you the search for fossils on the Volga River. In the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, there was a huge sea here, inhabited by ammonites, belemnites, as well as terrible marine dinosaurs...

Are the ammonites so common that you can just hack away willy-nilly with a heavyhanded chiselling technique? Don't misunderstand me, please, I love how much effort you put into the filming and editing, and the information you have provided here is very good. I just think more care should be taken not to break off chunks around the edges when digging them out.

Oh, not again... 3:36 and another one you broke for not using the chisel! This should be called "The ammonite breaking channel". 😭

you need to be more careful in trying to extract fossils… that way you would not destroy them…. when there gone there gone for good!

You are getting to close to the ammonites with your chisel. Your chisel looks like a wood chisel. Try to find a chisel made for rocks. Like a landscapers chisel.

It is rather funny, using a wood chisel to extract a fossil from rock.

You have an absolutely amazing spot! The belemnites have such an interesting color spectrum
my favorite is the piece of wood in e beginning, with the beetle markings it makes quite an unique snapshot of history, really cool!

There are many bones that turned to stone.
    Amazing!
It is hard to extract the fossil from the stone.
    Thanks a lot.

The best thing in life is being blessed and surprised by how much a little hard work, patience and faith that good things will happen. I collect freshwater clams, not even fossils, and the coolest day was when I went from finding 1 inch shells to inch live specimens

  • @DreadEnder
    @DreadEnder ปีที่แล้ว

Wow starting off with a massive Parkinsonia parkinsoni or Titanites giganteus ammonite print! Then a large piece of petrified wood with woodworms! Then a MASSIVE (I believe as I can’t see any groves from this footage) Acrocoelites belemnite. Then another maybe Cylindroteuthis. Another MASSIVE Parkinsonia! That annelid worm may be the best! I’m not familiar with the species though.

    Amazing fossil hunting spot.
We have similar preservation here in Texas of the ammonites, only we don’t find Belemnites. Ichthyosaur bones are also very rare.
We have lots of ammonites though.
Thank you for the English subtitles.

I had one like the one on that big slab behind my house, my older friend saw it w her man and then it was gone! It was in a hard spot to remove and was very heavy so it’s weird! I always wonder if they had something to do w it being removed. I used to sit on it by the creek and smoke
