That gunner deserve a round of beer from the entire flight. Also, that one poor paratrooper who landed in the river...
I'd blame the dummkopf who put the LZ next to a river. Still, there's a chance he survived.
Also hes the enemy I’m glad he landed in that river 😂
There are weak currents and shallow water in a river, and fallschirmjaeger are the most experienced infantrymen, so they should know how to swim and ditch gear quickly.
We germans have some violent rivers, I sometimes hear of deaths in my region
@@charlesc.9012 It is not so easy as you might think.
You don't see this kind of plane getting flown often in gameplay videos of this game. Good to see you give the Ju 52 some love.
I remember back in the 80s landing a single engine Piper behind a Lufthansa trimotor at an airfield in Massachusetts. She looked exactly like the Ju-52 Iron Annie, apart from the paint job, gunner and the absence of the black crosses, of course. Brings back some great memories!
I think that was the one that flew from coast to coast across the U.S. I remember when it flew over me in New Orleans - that beast was LOUD!
@@davidburke709 It didn't occur to me at the time, but it is possible that Lufthansa was operating commemorative flights with their old tri-motors. Another possibility, the Commemorative Air Force, owned a Spanish-built version of the Junkers Ju-52 until 2010, then sold it to the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA. Finally, a restored 1929 Ford tri-motor "NC8407", owned and operated by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) typically makes an appearance at the annual EAA Fly-In at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. As of 2011, 8 Ford Trimotors were still airworthy. Considering that both Junkers and Ford built Tri-motors during the period of the 1930s until the end of WW2 the fact that several are still airworthy is a testament to their excellence.
@@jamesrussell7760 This would have been around 1988 or so and I remember the news reports that it was going to pass through New Orleans - a Ju-52 in Lufthansa markings. I seem to recall it was part of their anniversary. Now I am not familiar with other Junkers trimotors, but I am quite familiar with the Fokker F-10 trimotor, which for a while was held in high regard and was even outcompeting the Ford Trimotor until the crash that killed Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne. Whereas the Ford was all metal, the Fokker still used wood laminate for its wing structures, and the glue was prone to weakening in certain conditions with consequent delamination and wing failure. The crash caused the Ford Trimotor to be the iconic aircraft which, as you rightly pointed out, still have several airworthy examples around the world while no Fokker trimotors are flying, although I believe there are a few museum examples. But what I saw was an Iron Annie - there is no mistaking that silhouette as it passed overhead at a couple of hundred feet! Loudest non-turbine aircraft I have experienced! Everyone was looking up to see what the heck the racket was!
I love this plane. Theres one going over the place I life in summer times, a view (and sound) that didn't get old since I was a little child.
Glad you did this one Taff. Love the variety. The German paratroopers had correct helmets. Love this game………..
Cinematically beautiful. A great change from screaming fighters!
That was a nice change of pace,gj Taff!!!!
That's a good thing... "Diversity."
You don't always have to be in a fighter, flying in intense battles. Bombers, troops, cargo, are good alternatives for a slower, 'milk run,' approach to flying.
Slow and low means you get to enjoy the scenery as well, besides seeing the tops of clouds!
Talk about a fantasy mission! Ju 52’s carrying out a daylight parachute drop in summer 1944. They would have run into 40 Allied fighters, not 4, and been slaughtered.
And the allied fighters in this video were allergic to firing.
Not really. They did smaller scale drops somewhat frequently, with even a large scale one occurring during the Argonne Offensive.
10:23 that paratrooper landed at the river has a great start of the fight😂
Great production on this Taff, really did look great to watch the paratroopers jumping off 👌 and all of the flight came home! 😯 nice work and a peachy landing as well! 👏 excellent work Taff 🏴🍻
Oh great, I dont have to watch the video now. Thanks..!
Bruh
You are not ponderous dear Taff, you are a deep thinker, a man of various and manifest talents!
Huzzah!
Cinematic AF! loved that one Taff.
Love to see all those Ju52s
It's always good to see tanta ju back in action.
Well, that was a surprisingly nice flight. Well done, no crash, no worries. Do more of these, please.
These non-fighter ones are quite fun to watch, it is interesting to see other kinds of flights
Loved it Taff. Great plane to fly. Love the trim/flap thing going on.
Love Tante Ju ! great video!
Growing up, a gentleman in my area owned "Iron Annie" a Junkers 52.
It was a fixture at all of our local airshows.
I loved seeing that lumbering warbird with its three motors growling over my hometown.
Sometimes some AT-6 Texans disguised as A6M Zeroes would show up. They had been used in the classic movie :Tora, Tora, Tora.
Good times.
Back in the 90s one used to regularly fly over East London.
The one featured in Where Eagles Dare crashed a few years ago killing 20 people in Switzerland.
I've often wondered why the Junkers company was so determined to make fixed landing gear happen on so many of their aircraft. They certainly did something right with the 52, though, since some of them are still active in commercial service.
cheaper less moving parts
Fixed gear is not only more simple, it is much stronger when landing on poor surfaces, and eliminates a lot of hydraulics needed. Efficiency losses are less important at the low speeds that Tante Ju flies at.
6:25 That propeller to the back couldn't feel good! Well done!
At least it wasn't spinning tho
Not often you see a full flight return home.
Watched and 👍 Liked
I flew with one of those amazing planes over the swiss alps.
I will never forget it.
Wow the game animation of troops parachuting from the plane was very cool. Excellent video as always.
Yesss!! I haven't seen a good JU-52 drop since Magztv's night drop a few years ago.
10:23 lol that guy in the water
One of the most enjoyable IL2 Great Battle videos I have seen in quite a while! 🍺 Prost!
great vid taff!
As and old "Fahlshermjaeger, I enjoyed.
Beautiful jump!
Cheers Taff, I enjoyed that. :)
Very nice with a different mission type :) thx
Broadsword calling Taffy Boy 😁 Where Luke Scott's dare lol
I do like flying the Ju-52in IL2GB it is a different type of experience, especially night parachute drops
I like these kinds of missions. Taff, would you be interested in doing the c47 night drop into Normandy? I'd do it myself but my kit won't run il2. Graphics card problem.
Yes!!!!!!
Nice. I have spent many hours in a JU-52 in career mode. Nice, simple flying. I’ve watched quite a few of your videos and can say that I have enjoyed them all. Well done. Subbed! Here’s to hoping you do some C47 videos when it finally gets released.
Nice change.
Nice start of this video. Looks familiar with the beginning of Band of Brothers😅
Ponderous :> me too friend, me too
5:04 clean kill
Cool
Good job those 52's didn't have to fly in storm eunice !
0:56 I liked flying this plane in the game - 100km/h and up in the air! :)
When the American pilot hit the silks at 6:20, he had a rough go of it trying to get clear of the aircraft. His legs went through the propeller and chute was tangled in the wing 🤔. #GranddadsWarStories
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that, in real life, his parachute would've gotten tangled up with the plane and it would've dragged him down.
Damm, I go to school in Lommel, Belgium. Never knew this happened (if it happened IRL)
Concerned about timelines ju52 and p51d ?
Great mission! Glad it didn't get ugly. Beautiful old plane. I'm eager to see if stock Stalingrad has the 52 or if I have to shop, because I want to try out this kind of mission.
It's an extra, and sadly quite pricy (about 25 USD if I got my conversion right).
which campaign was this taff ?
Hope there are more missions in this aircraft you can share.
What year was this?
I really wish for a career where both sides have to do daily parachute drops.
why does a game like IL-2 not model germans with german parachute. eg. 1 line to the back instead of allied 2 lines going to the shoulders?
These are German paratroopers in 1944 (anti-historical I know). By then the Germans had figured out that the one line parachute was a terrible design.
Did your gunner shoot the troops as they were dangling?
Please help, i play on keyboard and mouse, my ju 52 cant takeoff, engine power randomly up and down max speed is 60-70km/h . What problem is?
Creat cinematography. Where are the full length movies taff? I would watch them.
I suggest finding a German voice actor on a website like Fiverr - hearing a British voice talking from the perspective of a Ju 52 pilot is very strange. You could find such a voice actor for only $5-10.
who are you and what have you done with the real Taff? that landing was obviously photoshopped 🤣🤣🤣, love this series keep them coming !
no way that mustang pilot survived. his parachute wouldve wrapped all around his planes airframe.
@Taff in Exile do you have any idea when you’ll be starting a new Il-2 Great Battles Career with a new character?! Like maybe a previous character’s sibling or relative?
What was the “rule” on shooting airborne paratroopers with airplane arms?
That late in the war I suppose 'Kill as many as possible'...war sucks.
The rule is just don't lead them as much.
Pity the German parachutes aren't technically correct as they only had a single point attachment to the harness not double.
Lommel is my hometown. Be advised, all German paratroopers landing in my garden will have their heads bashed in. They tried it twice, and never got to stay.
Bash the Bosch.
you never looked at your airspeed. I thought you need to slow down to 160 for drop.
Tante Ju, good old girl
All that effort to have a flight of Ju52s and the setup. Messed up with Fw190a's on the ground and P51d attacking. So sad with the poor time frame equipment. Why couldn't they have had ME109 at the base and be attacked by Spitfires or Hurricanes?
What's the minimum altitude for A German paradrop?
@Calum Little Today's parachutes take about 900 ft to open. The minimum altitude for US parachutists is 2 500 ft.
@Calum Little you talk about drops, I talk about paradrops. The Webster definition for that is "delivery of cargo, emergency supplies, or personnel by parachute from an airplane in flight".
@Calum Little not 'by parachute' and 'by airplane in flight'
Ah, I found the info. Minimum jump altitude was 80 - 100 m AGL, depending on the parachute type. Which is surprisingly low. Windspeed had to be max 6 m/sec. It took 30 m / 2.3 sec for the chute to open fully. There was no reserve chute and no steering. Only light equipment could be worn.
@Calum Little 2 500 ft is correct for today's US sport parachutists/skydivers.
A German airborne offensive at the stage in the war?
Thatd never happen. The Allies had dominance in the air and those ju52s wouldve been massacred.
Do a career on this
These Ju 52´s wear the markings (yellow belly-band) for the Eastern Front. 🙄
lousy landing profile for Fallschirmjager and no PLF, many broken ankles and legs, lol.
