She was by far the most popular female musical star of the 1940s. For ten years in a row she was named to the top ten box office Stars. No other actress can make that claim. She was great!
Tipton and Rosebury were well known millionaires (at least millionaires) at the time the song was composed, Tipton was a produce and teas magnate and Rosebury was an aristocrat with titled income, among other income sources to be sure.
@@markbraunstein58 Why? Grable was obviously tutored by an English music hall pro. Andrews did it her way. I prefer Betty`s rendition. The only thing I have ever seen her do that I really like.
Her voice is not natural, she is flat compared with the musical notes, Julie Andrew was more natural, followed the music perfectly and her movements more difficult. This may have been to the better engineering facilities in sound recording. This seems to go for recordings by other singers . In my estimate Julie Andrews tops them all , again may be due to modern sound and video recordings. th-cam.com/video/BOJp_oJgMTM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jWfMcut7UN1OrQ9m
