Thanks for making this. I have the gen 2 (Standard Actuated) for our Outdoors RV Travel Trailer. I use the Flag Pole Buddy poles and Starlink adapter (which looks like Starship) mounted to our ladder for when we have clear enough sky. When not, I just extend it away using the base that came with it but never liked it being so low. One time we had a little girl using it as a slide! Tripod seems like a great idea.
Thanks for making the adaptor, I like the idea of getting it off the ground. I will also make an adaptor for a pole mount using the tripod adaptor. Great work!
I am going to have to go the route. Makes perfect sense as to why you should mount it on a tripod. Just need to purchase the adapter. Also noticed when you were replugging in the connector it looked rigid vs what that cord came with. Did you modify it? Thanks for the informative video. Just subscribed. 🙂👍
The cord in the video is the stock cord that comes with Starlink Standard. You can see other examples of the cord and installing / removing the adapter at th-cam.com/video/fuxhcZWzHeE/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for your support!
Thanks Adam. What about wind? I just got a Mini and had it on the hood of my truck while camping In North Park CO. A sudden gust of the Park's famous wind blew if off. Being that it was my first time out I was devastated when I saw the scratches and little dents from the rocks it landed on. Luckily it stills works. I now have a Ram Mount suction cut that holds it securely when mounted to the vehicle.
In windy conditions, I spread the tripod legs wider for a more stable stance or keep it closer to the ground if possible. Thanks for sharing the Ram Mount idea. I also sometimes used it attached to a RAM Mount attached to the ladder of my truck camper when there's a clear view where the vehicle is parked.
Check out banthaoverland.com/choosing-a-starlink-tripod-adapter/ for my recommendations. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have other questions about getting a tripod.
@@banthaoverland watched your video on the mounting of your gen 3 router and power supply in your camper. I have a similar compartment in my fifth wheel…do you see marketing those mounts like your tripod adapter? Let me know if you do and sign me up 🙂
Good question. It can certainly get windy out there. In windy conditions, I I try to use the tripod closer to the ground if possible and also spread the legs wider. I like tripods that allow the legs to be spread not just to 45 degrees but all the way to 90 degrees. At 90 degrees, the tripod legs are parallel to the ground and I use a rock, a piece of wood, etc set on the leg as an anchor. You can see an example of the 90 degree legs in this phot with my older Starlink www.flickr.com/photos/x-scooby/52891857756/in/album-72177720308218322.

Most quality tripods have a hook on the center mast. Add a weight or weighted bag to the hook to hold it steady and in place.
Could you share a recommendation for a tripod with a quick connect as you mention…many thanks

@@carlkey9136 maybe in a bit. I'll keep you posted.
How do you secure the tripod if there is substantial wind? What about rain, can the dish withstand serious rain?
