@@ZeonicZaku1-Zeon_Grunt_Suit those were PEAK knock off years. I used to find new ones all the time at dollar stores, flea markets, even places like kmart. And chinatown/korean food stores had really good quality ones. For knock offs that is.
I'm one of the old coots of the fandom that can remember when these were on the shelf at KayBee toys. Back in the day, it seemed like that was the only place you could find them. None at K-Mart, none at Circus World (a toy store that was in Johnstown), none in any of the varied department stores that littered the shopping district before Walmart slew them all. I had Calypso the Parrot and always appreciated the engineering. I think what kept me from getting more back in the day was the lack of backstory. As a kid, I had some weird head canon that Calypso was just doing his best to hide out in the Amazon because of his poor disguise, hoping the war would end before anyone could find him. I like to think he's still in the jungle like one of those Japanese soldiers who didn't realize that their country was now at peace with their former enemy. Calypso has become so good at evading capture, so removed from civilization that he was unaware or unwilling to admit the fighting has ending.
@@blunghole where were you in 84?!? Convertors woulda had a chance with that kind of fiction! My store was Childrens Palace in Indianapolis, full of magic treasures.
I managed to get this very guy complete some years ago off of eBay, sword and everything. Unfortunately, my copy of Rex has held up terribly over the years, which is a shame because he looks so cool. The joints just can't hold friction anymore and he barely stands.
One of my favorites!
@@SecretGalaxyTV He’s a gem! Thanks for watching, and congrats on all the success over the last couple years. Y’all deserve it!
these were the best of the line
The aesthetic of these toys are absolutely unmatched. That mix of cheapo materials and bright chrome just hits that toyetic charm so well.
@@JomasterTheSecond dont forget the best stickers ever made being used on the worst plastic 1984 had to offer!
I had one of these till 2006… mine was missing the legs, but my favorite of the Avian converters
@@islipcocoliso did it ever have legs? There always super loose, not surprised if they fell off
Had this one and the bat one, loved them both! Nice X-Factor/Uncanny X-Men reference. Loved the Starriors toys too!
@@AL13NM Robat! Gotta be not just one of the best convertors, but best transforming toys. Love that little goofster!
@@MantisNineNines Great name too!
I had the Bat one once. I loved it. Thanks to you now i remember its name, cheers!

Ohhh I kept wincing with every transformation you made lol

Man! Great review! Thanks for highlighting the obscure toys of my childhood. I never had this guy but I had his Owl buddy!
@@mistagoat6713 I love Hoot! Owl transformers are few and far between.

me too! :)
@@YonkersYank good to hear! I love these weird old robots
This is cool, reminds me of the bootleg transformers I'd get as a kid growing up in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Converters return! Hell yes I've been on a kick for similar weird bots recently that would have absolutely been at home in the line
