    Hi all, I just did this repair today so here are some tips from a newbie that managed to do it:
    1. IMPORTANT: Remove the negative clamp/cable from your car battery and wait 5 minutes before starting to work on your car
    2. Make sure your steering wheel is centered before starting work
    3. When removing the side bolts to release the airbag, when they become loose push the plastic into the bolt. There are little plastic clips that grab the bolt and that way they won't fall.
    4. Carefully pull out the airbag and remove the plug as shown in the video
    5. IMPORTANT: Removing the steering wheel is usually done with a puller tool, mine didn't come out as easily as in the video, so unscrew the lug nut of the steering wheel slightly and hit your wheel side to side and start shaking it until it becomes loose. Then remove the lug nut, draw a straight black line (Make sure the steering wheel is centered!) and only then remove the steering wheel.
    6. Remove the bolts holding the plastic covers
    7. When you've removed all plugs, it's time to remove the spiral cable. The spiral cable holds on three parts, two on each side below and one in the center at the top. Unclip the sides first (maybe use a flat screwdriver) and then unclip the top to remove the spiral cable.
    8. Put the new spiral cable the same way - sides first, then clip onto the top
    9. IMPORTANT: Check your spiral cable connectors!!! Mine was different! You can dissassemble the airbag plug connector and change it with the one from your broken spiral cable, I did that and it was completely fine. If you need to do that search "DIY: AIRBAG connector replacement EASY!" on YT. It shows you how to tear apart the connector.
    10. Assemble as shown on the video
    That's it! I hope this helps and Thank you so much to the creator of this video, I managed to do this all by myself and I have 0 experience in car repairs!

    Hopefully end of vehicle was just before airbag setting off, need that battery disconnected and sometimes specialty tool to remove the bag and discharge circuit.. but to gloss over that.. hope no injuries..

    had clicking in steering wheel
    read about lubbing half shaft
    marked with black marker down by where shaft passes thru firewall and where steering column connects to shaft..
    un bolted shaft and let slide downward
    did not tie down steering wheel and therefore it spun 360 multiple times
    once finished with shaft reconnected
    noted that airbag light came in and horn stopped working
    I assume the multiple 360 spins of steering wheel broke the wiring connections??
    part cost?
    did this fix yours?
    what caused yours to stop break ?

      no i never touch my half shaft.
      the problem was spiral cable itself.
      it cost me 26$ in ebay.
      after replacing it all works good

    Question. My car horn not working (Toyota Yaris 2009) dealer says I need spiral cable. Does that sound right? Isn’t it for airbags issues?

    • @ArbitraryLifestyle
      @ArbitraryLifestyle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hardly dude. The sensor that tells the airbag to deploy is NOT on the airbag itself dummy. That would mean drumming on the steering wheel to your favorite band may set it off. The sensor is in the front of the vehicle just behind the bumper. However, always a good idea to disconnect the negative battery terminal when doing any electrical part repairs.

    will this keep the cruise control from working

    • @MrTheNasreddine
      @MrTheNasreddine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spiral cable control the cruise control but make sure that this the cause of the problem. For me firstly I had a problem with my horn and after that the airbag light turned on, so I was sure that was a spiral cable problem.

      @@MrTheNasreddine I just paid $681 at my local toyota to have this done. I punched my steering wheel really hard a few months ago, ever since then the horn would sometimes not work and work when you pressed it in certain areas. fast forward a few months the horn would start beeping on it's own, then i noticed the airbag light come on, and then the steering wheel get really stiff, and i could hear noises from the steering wheel as if the airbag was crinkling around like it wanted to pop out. That's when Is aid it was time to take it to mechanic. I was fearful the airbag would pop out on me while driving.
